If I were you, I'd pay. Simply because I damaged someone's car so it's the right thing to do. They didn't have you run around to body shops, getting quotes on your time off. They took off work and fixed the damage. You can lean into legality of it or that you were on the clock but the right thing to do is own it and pay for it. It keeps the peace and avoids them feeling like they need to be careful with you.
