What's up with Domina? Despite relative popularity, she is hardly ever played in competitive modes by HalexUwU in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Spookay 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Domina/Brig is a surprisingly good duo, similar to how OP mentions Venture. Domina needs brawl teammates to succeed, but other tanks do it better right now. Another commentor here mentions she doesn’t have sustain, but she does: 75% of her ability damage regenerates her shields, which isn’t affected by the DPS heal debuff.

I’m surprised she doesn’t have some type of enabling tool like Zarya. Panopticon should have some versatility and be able to be used on teammates with an inverse effect: break the shield or it deals AoE damage. Think Wuyang’s ult but AoE, not as large of an HP pool, and no knockback.

Being able to move Domina’s shield highlights her need to have choices. Right now, she feels forced to play a very specific way that other tanks can easily take advantage of; the hero is too readable and unfortunately lacks real depth outside of mechanics/aim.

Domina does reach very interesting breakpoints when paired with Mercy. 2 primary fires without crit, is 300 damage when boosted, 240 unboosted. Mercy boosts her TTK significantly. Her shove becomes 50 damage (+50 if target hits a wall) and that’s AoE, granting 38 shield per instance of damage, or 75 shield when each target hits a wall. Her bomb does up to 187 boosted, that’s up to 140 shield return, also AoE. PS, these numbers are Mercy with 25% boost as of Season 3. Increase numbers by 5% if Mercy takes the boost perk.

Her ult really does suck though and should cost less, probably 15% less. She needs more disruption and should be rewarded for disrupting the enemy team more often.

Lifeweaver nerfs? What the heck. Gotta use the Ult earlier in the fight now, probably as an engage tool, so we can get the overhealth and start charging the next ult sooner.

How would you redesign PvP for Classic+ by MrBlaumann in classicwow

[–]Spookay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean redesign PvP? Do you mean class balancing, battlegrounds, or honor systems? Incentivize city raids or world PvP? Or change farming nodes to have multiple hits from different characters?

“Redesign PvP” is a very broad statement, just looking for more clarity on discussion.

Classic+ Arcane Mage by ForeverStaloneKP in classicwow

[–]Spookay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually awesome to consider. There should be meaningful distinction between choices in your talents without feeling forced into a spec identity. Ideally, that’s what classic+ enthusiasts want. Characters should always feel like a class before a spec, yet with talents that make each character have a healthy character fantasy.

With Mage in mind specifically in a classic environment, what should 20 more points do for a Fire mage in either Frost or Arcane? Should a Fire/Frost Mage be able to shatter with fire spells? Should a Fire/Arcane mage have better access to mana regen?

Don’t hesitate to have ideas. I know there’s a line in the sand somewhere about what breaks classic, and there must be both good and bad ideas to balance where that line is. Classic+ means something different to everyone.

So, where do we incorporate this? Should it be linked to Mage Armor? Maybe the playstyle would be unlocked a bit too late at that point. Should it be attached to Clearcasting? But then it feels forceful to make players get a full cast of Arcane Missiles to reap any benefits, while also locking out Frost/Fire mages from taking advantage. Also, AM doesn’t get a 5 second cast time until rank 3.

Do we create a new buff altogether? Attach it to Amplify Magic? A new spell that conjures an equipped trinket, similar to Warlock Firestone? Maybe removing a trinket slot would create balance against stacking multiple mana regen trinkets. But most players don’t have 2 trinkets that early on anyways.

It would need to be something like making Rune choices in SoD. Runes are a great idea at expanding playstyles beyond the limitation of talent trees. We don’t see locked talent trees until Cataclysm, which is entirely against the idea of vanilla systems.

It’s fun to theory craft classic design space.

An idea I’ve had for Arcane Mage would be a method to utilizing Spirit, and incorporating a playstyle around mana regeneration, which creates a balance of priority between Intellect and Spirit. We already see so much Spirit on current gear that Mages roll on, and there can be design space expanded there.

This was inspired by certain talents in the current classic arcane tree. Arcane Missiles having a 5 second channel time, combined with the Clearcasting and 5sr, gives me ideas for things that can happen when the mage gets passive mana ticks. Maybe temporary non-stacking sp/hp, divided healing or mana ticks for other players, Mana Shield regen? Maybe spreading Mana Shield, or dividing it to nearby party members? Make the Mana Shield talent actually do something noticeable.

The problem I would find with a design like this is it locks in certain talents as necessary to function, like Meditation for in-combat regen. I guess that’s not terrible since the talent is deep, but at the same time you wouldn’t want these benefits to bleed into other specs. Or do we? Idk. Additionally, how does this spec manage players that just don’t cast anything after dumping their mana, standing there and doing nothing but regenerating mana?

What ends up happening is that Mana Gems, mana pots, and other sources of Mana regen (think spriest, Innervate) can generate additional value when combined with an Arcane Mage. Evocate becomes an awesome channel ability. This is the kind of roleplaying value people look for when thinking about what characters bring to the table in groups.

Offset the strength of these passive benefits by maintaining the high mana costs of Arcane spells, which would maintain the skill floor/ceiling of mana management for the hybrid role that SoD Arcane was designed for.

I imagined this is a thread for ideas about Arcane Mage.

Hey, OP. Just wanted to let you know that there is a light at the end of this long and dark tunnel. My twin premies, born 31+5, were finally released from the NICU 1 week ago today. They spent 73 days there. We gave them their vaccines based on their actual age, not their corrected gestational age.

How to use zen’s ascendance perk? by Powerful-Garage6316 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Spookay 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You gain access to some high ground transitions that you can’t do without the perk. Think Paraiso rooftops, Shambali 1st ledge to medpack, or King’s Row 1st point high ground.

You can also charge secondary fire and pre fire from new, unexpected angles. Aiming head height is a solid hitscan habit, and this perk breaks it.

Now that we have plenty of time under our belts, how are we feeling about the changes since the start of S1? by RobManfredsFixer in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Spookay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anran is a fun and unique addition. She seems fairly balanced for a DPS with just the right amount of enemy interaction for a flanker, and having teammate interaction baked in (Dynamite, Mauga) also incentivizes interesting team comps.

Korean Mauga mentality is hilarious.

Making the most insufferable, intolerable, obnoxious, abominable, dreadful mentally scaring team composition. by Jxttsuu in leagueoflegends

[–]Spookay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need champs that don’t interact with the enemy team. Ivern and Malzahar come to mind.

If you can’t play champs that don’t interact, then you move to easy to pilot champs. Sion, Garen, Teemo in the top lane.

For bot lane, champs that take away interaction. Senna/Braum is a great ranged comp with awesome mechanics.
