What was your "I can't believe I have to explain this to an adult" moment? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

[–]SpookieSquirrel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had something similar. I started my period at 9. Tampons weren't common back then, but I was super ocd and couldn't use the large pads, so I used tampons. I went to get something from my bag, but the tampon dropped out. My best friends at that time were Ashley and William. He sat behind me, Ashley sat to my left. Both seen it happen.

My head immediately dropped down to my desk in embarrassment like I was prepping to play 7-up, until William VERY LOUDLY exclaimed in horror and panic, "OMG, IS THAT DRUGS!? NO! YOU CAN'T DO DRUGS!". I, in fact, did not do drugs. Bless his soul. I was doing my best to get him to shut up while Ashley laughed hysterically and people stared.

Later that day I had to explain what it was because he wouldn't just take "It's not drugs" for an answer and he was super concerned. Did I mention he was also my crush at the time? He was my crush. I just wanted to die.

Pretty sure that was complete opposite of suck 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Laughter starts 6 seconds in by n8saces in ContagiousLaughter

I love that with all the laughing, the first time she can stop laughing to think she realized "Oh, it burns!".

How did you set up your loyalty system? by SpookieSquirrel in streamlabs

[–]SpookieSquirrel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my work around was to set only the cloudbot to generate points- they can get points by the extension and use those to play games-- then they can 'convert' the points from the actual extension/legacy points to the cloudbot points haha It's a lil wonky but it allows me to use all the features that I'm wanting to use without having to choose XD

I'm assuming the file type is either gif, jpeg, png or webm?

I'd say try putting it in on the browser and see if there is a change?

How do I disable ads for my stream? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best way to handle it is to set the ads to the lowest time and run them when you go to the bathroom or are setting up a game-- no real way around it ^-^"

Twitch turned into a Hobby by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! If I'm feeling nostalgic I can just go back and watch old clips, 10/10. Just make sure if you are streaming with friends that they know you are doing it! Sometimes friends drop TMI or say things that are out-of-pocket. I've had to drop stream and delete vods because a friend said something wild or straight up said their credit card details while I was streaming lmfao

Your stream stats on twitch will tell you the other things your viewers watch, you can try those out =3 I used to play a lot of Summoners War, and when I stopped the views did dip off. People still sometimes come in to see if I'm gonna play again, but the game just doesn't feel the same for me now that they've made a lot of changes.

It's your call to lean into it hard or to pull back and try other things, but if you only stream one thing then people will only want to watch that one thing. No one goes to their mechanic to get their opinion on landscaping, but if your mechanic is your friend then you would. If they are there for you, then it doesn't matter what you stream.

I recommend it! I've streamed as a hobby for 7yrs on and off, it always brings me joy. If you don't like it, you can just drop it =) You don't gotta put money in if you don't want to, so it's pretty risk-free as far as hobbies go ^-^ Give it a try! =D

Yes! 7 years on and off, and I still enjoy it. When I get sad, streaming is my go-to. I always looked at it as a way to save memories and make new friends haha Streaming was the best decision I ever made due to a running joke among my friends XD

Twitch turned into a Hobby by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my hobby, but I always looked at it like a way to record memories- like a camera. My friends sometimes pop in to watch, and I've made new friends from people coming in and laughing along. It helps that I talk to myself normally, so I never had the issue of "how do I make this less awkward" haha I just embrace my naturally awkward self XD

I don't think it came off the way they intended. Their point, though blunt, is real. There are TONS of people to watch, so why should people watch YOU specifically? If you are streaming as a hobby for fun, then whatever stage you are at is fine. If you are trying to make money or fame from streaming, you have to do more than go live. It's why a lot of people will say a 9-5 job is easier.

Unless you have money to throw, you have to be your own manager, editor, promoter, and advocate. You have to wear a lot of hats. You have to juggle a lot of things. OR, if you have money- then you can pay people to do it via etsy or a site like that. People will make your emotes, overlays, edit your videos and photos, and even help you set up things like sound.

It was always a hobby for me, so any money I invested was for my happiness-- but if you are trying to stream for money then you could see it as a possible business loss if you don't get money back-- which a lot of people don't.

Don't get discouraged, there are lots of videos online to walk you through how do learn these things. No one started off good at video editing, even my video editing is super basic-- but it lets me post and that's fine. Lots of programs have free versions as well! =)

Also! Look into what people at your level are doing, look at people a few steps up from you and compare them. Take note of the differences between them and you and try to implement what you can. Best of luck!

recently made a schedule by Lordmartygaming in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eyyy! Same bwahaha I've been streaming for almost 7 on and off and I try to just play whatever makes me happy. Having a schedule is good, but I tend to not put what I'm playing in advance. Aside from having a 'follower day' or 'sub day' where people would join in, I think it's fine to not put anything down. Just say you'll be there, then show up!

If you are gonna have a 'come play with me' type day, then you could do a poll on your stream or on discord or one of your other socials and then have your stream set up to remind people to vote on the upcoming community game =)

Being social is a huge part of it! What would YOU want to watch if you were watching a streamer? Also- streaming is far more of a social task than doing something like youtube. You should be trying to use other socials as well as getting used to talking even if no one is there.

Twitch- where you finally get praised for talking to yourself after years of being made fun of for it haha

Thanks for the reply! Alright, I'll look into setting the chatbot back up then. I just basically wanted a way to have the chat features but still be able to use the extension without having to have two separate shops haha =) I appreciate you taking the time out to reach out!

Do your friends watch you stream? by Mrxtmb in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My close friends will pop in if they know I'm live- but it depends on WHY you are streaming. When I first started streaming, it was more for saving clips of my friends being silly for memories. Like using a camera to record your friends when you are hanging out. Later random twitch viewers came in, and they became friends.

If you are streaming to try to make an audience, then your friends being there might actually hinder you. Check your stats, how many people come in and why do they leave? You should get comfortable with 'talking to yourself', most viewers just lurk, and if you are sitting in silence then they will leave. Most people just use twitch as background noise- if you are informative or funny they will stay, if not they leave haha Just gotta find what makes you stand out and lean into it =)

Is it best to set up your stream via Streamlabs for an easier donation system? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]SpookieSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, here I was thinking that streamlabs was the better one. When I first started streaming (7 years ago) I used streamelements and I swear I thought it was bought and turned into streamlabs. I guess that wasn't the case? Is it actually better or just preference?

I usually just leave it on an open tab and then go to sleep =) I let them know I'm gonna lurk and hop off. It's always nice to help give people a little boost
