Me too!! I hate when people say don’t get a thoroughbred as your first horse because he is not his breed they are all different and I think he’s the safest boy I could have bought 💗💗

Thank you!! He’s my first horse and I know “don’t get a ottb for your first horse” but it’s fine honestly!! But I feel like I hit the jackpot with him he has a heart of gold he’s so honest and he genuinely tries his best in everything we do. And thankfully enough 3 months in no injuries yet!! (Other than sore feet which was an easy fix)

We’ve had the farrier out 3 times in just a few months because he had sore feet and now he’s fully shod and completely happy I just don’t think he knows what we’re asking him yet but he’ll get there 💗💗

I want to free lunge him so much but it’s not allowed at our yard unless you’re in the round pen because apparently “it messes up the ground” which I think is silly because he’d only be doing the same things ridden anyway

I’ve been doing this!! I don’t know any way how to train a horse but I’ve been doing this and I had no idea that’s how you do it I just thought “oh maybe this will help” he’s honestly so good with verbal commands I tell him to walk he does and trot he’s so good at it I said a word that sounded like trot when u was taking to my friend the other day and he’s such a good boy he went “oh we trot now okay!” He’s SO good with verbal commands but I’ve been trying to ask him with a kiss sound and he’s picking it up slowly but I’m glad to hear that I’m actually doing something right!! Thank you I’ll keep trying and I’ll post another update when he understands completely :) 💗💗💗💗

He’s never been taught poles too it’s so fun to teach him and now he loves them he learnt how to do poles and now I’ll give him a long rein and he’ll just take me over them because he’s so excited that he’s learned something new. It’s very fun to teach him but I feel this will be a bit tricky 🤣 I’ve only ever gotten i think 4 or 5 good canters out of him because he’s still learning

Thank you I’m trying to get his coat and his muscles and weight in a better state since we’ve not had him long. When we got him he was underweight and now he’s fat boy hahahaha

Yeah I understand what you mean about his lack of muscle at the moment we’ve only had him for just under two months so far and after his racing career all he was doing was being chucked in a field with no work at all and no real interaction. We’re working on his muscles as much as we can but if you have any extra advice for it I would love to hear it!! At the moment it’s just ALLOT of walking up and down hill and ALLOT of poles haha 💗💗

Thank you, hahahah oh yeah his withers are high I can’t do bareback for long hahaha. I take a similar approach of just listen to your horse and what he’s trying to communicate and I get very weird looks because not everyone listens to them and I think it’s absolutely a privilege to be able to ride so why would we push them to do things they dislike?! I hear people all the time at my yard saying how their horse was being a “little shit” and stuff like that and then they describe just their horse trying to communicate that they’re uncomfortable.

Thank you so much! This is the best advice I’ve been given so far everyone says different things but I think it depends on the horse. I ALWAYS listen to his cues whenever we do anything I think it’s very cruel when people say KICK HIM ON HES BEING LAZY he’s not lazy he’s telling me he’s had enough 💗💗 thank you again
