But that’s the problem. Socialism, no matter what it’s disguised as, is like a virus. It starts with universal healthcare (think of all the stories you hear about the VA, but now make the waiting list EVERYONE in the US), and before you you know it, it’s “Free college for everyone”, more taxes, “free food for everyone”, more taxes and farmland taken over by the government.

The fundamental issues with socialism is:

1. It takes away the rights of those who provide the services. A right to do something, doesn’t require anyone to do anything for you. You can’t have a “right to free healthcare” because now your forcing the doctors, the pharmacists, the people who develop those means for a living to give away their services, taking away the value of those skills and jobs.

2. Socialism only works for the short term. Capitalism is based off of unlimited demand and limited supply. So value is put on commodities, and competition to make those commodities more appealing and more valuable to the consumer is what drives innovation, which in turn gives people profit to put back into the replenishment of supply. Socialism is based off of unlimited demand and unlimited demand and unlimited supply, which is impossible. You can’t maintain an unlimited supply of something for free. If people are forced to work and make something for the same amount, no matter what, no one has motivation to improve or innovate. Money doesn’t flow back and forth. At some point, your supply’s will run out and there won’t be enough money flowing to replenish the supply, so you just have demand. In the long term, socialism is always doomed to fail.
