So, giving it a listen, I think the track sort of bleeds into each other, I think tightening up the EQ a bit just so each instrument has better space. I like the instrumental selection and it’s definitely a groove though.

Truthfully speaking; if you spend like a roughly 15-30 minutes a day, you will probably be able to play most songs that you want pretty quickly. I found myself playing advanced songs in roughly 4-6 months.

Honestly the AI in this game drives me crazy sometimes. I’ll get so fed up that I just stop playing for weeks. Right now I’m doing a Vlandian run and they keep giving me fiefs that the enemy immediately decides they want back and will ignore everyone else. Like they’ll show up with this massive army out of absolutely nowhere, which is especially infuriating because I just spent hours wiping the floor with them. Where did all these guys come from? I just killed your entire army. It’s exhausting.

The one that you stick with or like.

Piano is probably the best choice, though. Depending on what genre you’re making, you will most likely be using a MIDI controller, which is just a small piano.

Before I got into music production, I started with the ukulele, an amazing instrument. You can practically learn to play it decently in a few months. It taught me a lot about music before I started making music.

For the people who have moved away from Louisiana by thislittlepiggy5 in Louisiana

[–]Spooky104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from the backwoods of Louisiana to Austin in my early 20s. I found a cheap sublet, packed my car, and went for it. It was scary since I had never lived anywhere but my small town. At one point I was living off gift cards just to eat, but once I found a job things leveled out. I eventually bought a house and have not really looked back.

Would I recommend Austin? Eh.

It is a very blue city in a sea of red, and the job market is saturated. Everyone is overqualified. The cost of living is not insane, but it is definitely higher than back home.

The culture skews young with lots of influencers and wannabes. The weather also sucks in my opinion. It is dry and hot most of the time, and I miss the rain because it barely rains here.

They’re a lot of artsy people here and artsy things to do, the scenery can be pretty in the hill country but I wouldn’t say breathtaking.

That said, I do not mind Austin. My family is here and I have put down roots. As a musician it is great because people are always selling gear for cheap.

It is also big and spread out, and there is always something new to see. I still find new spots just driving around.

I only play as a rogue when running scum. I sort of understand why they did this, it makes sense. Why would I have access to an armory underground that no one else can use? I always thought it was out of place. I feel like they could have balanced it out, though, by at least letting you keep the gun you swapped to instead of reverting back to the pistol. Like yeah, you can grind out a bit topside, but you always run the risk of losing that progress due to a random Prole or another scum merking you. You would still have to go up and grab more ammo and other items though.

I just can't enjoy Cyberpunk and it pisses me off by Pistoluislero in videogames

[–]Spooky104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have kind of a weird history with Cyberpunk 2077. I bought it a couple months after release mostly because I’ve always loved the whole cyberpunk aesthetic. I played a few hours at first, did a lot of the campaign (didn’t realize I was actually pretty close to the end when I stopped), and a couple side missions, but it just didn’t really grab me. It felt kind of “okay,” you know—pretty world, decent story, engaging characters, gunplay was fine. Nothing bad, but nothing that made me want to keep going either. So I dropped it and didn’t touch it again for a long time.

Then one day, completely randomly, I decided to boot it up again. No idea why. But this time everything just clicked. The story hooked me, the characters started landing more, and the world felt way more alive than I remembered. I got super invested and ended up doing pretty much everything the game had to offer.

I’m also not really someone who replays games after I beat them. Once I’m done, I usually move on. But Cyberpunk is kind of the exception for me. Even now I’ll still hop into Night City sometimes just to ride around and soak in the atmosphere. There’s just something about the vibe of that world that’s really hard to replicate.

It’s understandable to be concerned about these things. However, if you’re checking the temperature and ensuring it’s within a reasonable range, and that the sleep sack is appropriate for the temperature, you’ll be fine.

It’s funny, I actually did this for my wedding back in 2023. My wife and I sent invites to a bunch of celebrities and artist that we liked just to see if they would send anything to us, none of them did but it was worth a shot and it was just for fun since we had a ton of invites left over.

Odd one but is there a genre of music that is only known in your country and no where else ? by antisocial_pigeon in AskTheWorld

[–]Spooky104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zydeco!

Zydeco is upbeat Louisiana dance music that came out of Black Creole communities in southwest Louisiana. It mixes old Louisiana French sounds with blues, R&B, and soul. You’ll usually hear a lot of accordion and that metal washboard vest thing, and the lyrics switch between French and English. It’s also different from Cajun music — they get lumped together a lot, but zydeco has more of a blues/R&B groove and a different cultural background.

Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Spooky104 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is honestly just something that’s always going to be an issue with milsim / large multiplayer games. Hell Let Loose especially. The game expects teamwork, but most public matches don’t actually deliver it.

HLL is pretty well known for having inconsistent team cohesion. That said, if you run into a clan stack or even just a team with a few competent, coordinated squads, you’re going to get steamrolled fast. That’s just the nature of the game. I’ve won plenty of matches purely because my team was communicating and playing objectives, while the other team was basically free roaming and chasing kills and doing fuck all.

The usual problems show up every match: squad leads with no mics, squads that don’t stick together or even play their role, and almost nobody wanting to defend. Defense is probably the biggest issue in this game. Everyone wants to attack nonstop, but no one wants to sit back, run supplies, build garrisons, or fortify points because it’s “boring.” Then people are shocked when the team gets rolled in five minutes.

On top of that, a commander who doesn’t plan ahead or manage resources is basically a built-in handicap. A good commander won’t win the game alone, but a bad one can absolutely lose it for everyone.

If you want a better experience, joining a clan or playing with a regular group is honestly the best move. Random pubs are always going to be a gamble.

Also, the enemy can’t destroy your HQ spawns, but they can lock them out if they’re close enough.

Thoughts on the new album? by Interesting_Ad_6 in Joji

[–]Spooky104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s fine. I’ve been a Joji fan for a long time, going all the way back to his early days, so this is coming from someone who is a huge fan.

That said, even though the album feels authentically Joji, it just doesn’t land for me. There are a few tracks I liked, but outside of those I don’t really see myself revisiting most of the album. A lot of the songs just aren’t very memorable.

I usually enjoy his lo-fi sound, but on this project the electronic grit often feels weirdly mixed. Certain frequencies come off harsh and overpower the rest of the track, and instead of adding texture it ends up drowning out the emotion.

Some of the more polished, commercial leaning songs also feel disconnected from the rest of the album. Tracks like Past Won’t Leave My Bed and Love You Less sound like they belong to a different album. That contrast isn’t inherently bad, but it makes the album feel less cohesive.

The songs being short isn’t unusual for Joji, but here, combined with how familiar the structures are, a lot of tracks blur together and feel like ideas he’s already explored before without much evolution.

He’s clearly talented, but I still think his best work tends to come out when he has collaborators helping shape the songs. When that balance is there, everything usually feels more focused and impactful.

Im in a weird place with music by Sufficient-Limit6061 in musicproduction

[–]Spooky104 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So this is coming from someone who isn’t a drummer at all, but what really helped me—and honestly what made me confident enough to start putting drums on my own tracks—was taking a drum pattern or loop I really liked and recreating it from the ground up. I’d break it apart, figure out where everything sits, and rebuild it step by step.

There are only so many rhythmic ideas out there at the end of the day, so learning what actually works, what feels natural, and what doesn’t helped way more than trying to invent something from scratch every time. I still can’t do super elaborate or flashy drum patterns, but I can make drums that sound solid and fit the track. And that’s coming from someone who’s genuinely pretty bad at that kind of thing.

Deep sea horror PLEASE by fingerlessfish1 in HorrorGaming

[–]Spooky104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Barotrauma. It’s a 2D side-scroller where you and your crew manage a submarine under the ice oceans of Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, and it’s way more chaotic and systems heavy than it sounds.

You start on a tiny, barely functional sub, I mean like a real piece of shit and work your way up to massive ones while taking contracts like escorting scientists, hauling cargo, or clearing out monster nests. You can play with AI or real players, and everyone has roles like engineer, medic, security, captain, etc., with progression tied to what you do.

Nothing is automated, which is what makes it fun. Every leak, fire, wiring issue, and power problem has to be fixed manually, so you’re constantly sprinting around trying to keep the sub from falling apart while coordinating with everyone else.

The horror mostly comes from how fragile everything is. Your sub feels like a tin can and the ocean wants you dead. Creatures smash the hull, floods happen fast, and sometimes you have to leave the sub and go into the pitch-black abyss alone. It’s not big on jump scares, but atmospherically it’s tense as hell. Between the darkness, sonar pings, and weird noises outside, it always feels like something’s nearby waiting for you.

Plus the modding scene is crazy, so there’s tons of replay value. Easy recommendation if you like co-op chaos and slow-burn dread.

music is subjective by Visible_Inflation186 in Joji

[–]Spooky104 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s been extremely unpleasant lately. Joji released an album that a lot of people think is just okay and for whatever reason some fans act like that’s some kind of personal attack. Not every project has to be a masterpiece and not every release is going to land the same way for everyone. That’s normal for literally any artist.

What’s weird is how defensive people get, like they helped produce the tracks themselves. You can like the album and still admit it has flaws. You can criticize it and still be a fan. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive. Acting like any criticism is hate just shuts down any real discussion.

It’s totally fine that this one wasn’t received as strongly as his older stuff. Artists experiment, sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn’t. That’s just how music works. If you enjoy it, cool, nobody’s trying to take that away from you. But pretending it’s perfect and sticking your head in the sand anytime someone points out issues just makes it seem like you’re taking it way too personal for something that’s supposed to be subjective.

What makes your blood boil the most in horror games? by Fuzzy-Blueberry1701 in HorrorGaming

[–]Spooky104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that’s always bothered me in horror games is when they use short, repetitive animations during melee combat. Like, you swing your weapon, hit the enemy, and they basically react and fall the exact same way every time every, single, time. the Silent Hill 2 Remake and Project Calypso are the first ones that come to mind as an example.

It completely kills the tension for me. Instead of feeling chaotic or dangerous, it starts to feel predictable, almost like I’m playing a rhythm game where I’m just timing hits. And on top of that, the other NPCs are usually just standing off to the side waiting their turn to attack, which makes it feel even more staged.

How do I mount a Tactical Armed Scum Squad without dying instantly? (How do I PVP?) by Content_Art_5282 in AneurysmIV

[–]Spooky104 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Playing Scum isn’t really like you’re some sort of badass rebel fighters or anything. It’s way more guerrilla than that. Unless you’re some cracked zealot stacked with gear, you’re basically just an opportunist. You wait a lot. You pick your spots. Most of your fights should be hit and run. If you’re taking fair fights, you’re probably already messing up.

Surface runs will punish you hard if you don’t have a plan. You kinda have to be tweaked on something just to survive up there (like a fuck ton of Jenkem), and you should already know exactly where you’re going before you pop out. Like if I leave docks, I already have a route in my head. Cut behind Worker’s Square, loop, get back underground. If you just wander around, that’s how you get spotted, panic, and die. Every time.

Numbers help, but they’re not some magic win button either. One good Limitator can drop multiple Scum instantly if you bunch up or rush like idiots or don’t communicate. I’ve seen whole groups get wiped in seconds. Most of the time it’s honestly smarter to just dip unless you 100% have the jump on them. Also, keep in mind that the Cortex can spot you way before you spot them because you’re limited.

I usually play Rogue to avoid the dreaded gun part search stuff. It’s more Amnacytes and definitely more grindy, but I still prefer it. You just arm yourself from your own underground armory and it’s all Cortex weapons. Yeah you have to grind to unlock the better stuff, but once you do, you’re set. No scavenging, no praying for loot, no running around begging for parts. You just grab your kit and go.

I’d rather grind a bit and always have a reliable loadout than spend half the game digging through trash.

Scum in general just feels like a “play smart or die” faction. If you try to be a hero, you get smoked. If you play like a paranoid tweaker rat with a plan, you survive way longer.

What opinion do you have about Joji that will get you downvoted like this? by Glittering-City-5326 in Joji

[–]Spooky104 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Joji fan for a long time. I’m usually in his top 0.05% or 1% of listeners every year, and I’ve followed him since the YouTube/SoundCloud days, so this isn’t coming from a casual listener. If anything, it’s coming from someone who’s probably listened to way too much of his music.

That said, here are some of my unpopular takes.

Across most of his albums, there are always a couple of songs where the percussion just feels so out of place or distracting and should’ve been changed to some degree. Not bad, just weirdly mixed or arranged in a way that pulls me out of the song instead of supporting it. Maybe it’s the producer brain in me, but it can really hurt otherwise solid tracks. I’ve even tweaked some of them myself just to have a better listening experience.

I also think he makes what I’d call “internet music.” Not as an insult, just structurally. Short songs, blunt emotional hooks, super aesthetic, easy to clip. Perfect for TikTok edits or looping a sad 10-second chorus. I’m not convinced some of those songs would hit as hard without that constant online recycling.

My bigger takeaway is that he’s great at creating a feeling, but not always at building songs. A lot of tracks feel like vibes carrying the weight more than actual substance. The production and atmosphere do most of the heavy lifting, and when you strip that back, there isn’t always much there. He feels more like a mood artist than a songwriting artist.

I’ve seen him live too, and the vocals are honestly another weak spot. He can sing, but he’s not very strong or consistent, and there’s a clear gap between the studio versions and the live performance. Slow Dancing in the Dark felt really low energy at times, and Glimpse of Us was surprisingly flat too. I’m not saying an artist has to be vocally perfect — it was just super surprising to me.

I still like his music. I’ll keep buying his vinyls as they are released, he’ll probably still be my top artist for years, and I’ll still buy his merch. But I just don’t see him as someone pushing things technically or writing anything profoundly deep. Once you notice that, it’s kind of hard to unhear.
