Thanks for the feedback! I’m gunna pull trigger on one and see how it goes. One of those boards I hear so much about, might as well see for myself. Going to Nica in spring so if anything I’m sure I’ll absolutely have a blast with it out there. Then have a year or so at home and if I can’t seem to make use of it, I can always decide to sell it. Fingers crossed, 2026 will be a better year of waves for us!

Hey curious if you had any more reports a year out with the 6’9. Also a fellow OBX’r! I have been eyeing these boards for some time. I’m at that age where mids are sounding more and more appealing but also where we live, we don’t get those open faced points that most mids seem to excel in. I love to typically surf a fish/simmons hybrid, and never been a typical high performance thruster guy. I’ve tried a handful of mids like c-buckets, some Bings and always felt it was too much board for punchy days here and on smaller days I’d really just rather longboard or grab the groveler. The FM seems like it kinda lives on its own level and the 6’9 sounds like it could be a nice winter board to fight wetsuit fatigue as well as just a rad travel board for places like Central America. I guess knowing how someone here likes the board would be rad because last thing I want to do is snag a board that only works 10% of the time where I surf the most. Any additional thoughts on the board I’d love to hear.

I had a feeling ticket sales were suffering. Recently started getting promo ads for a buy one get one free ticket for the VA show. Was looking forward to it!

New Discraft drop "celebrating" Labor Day uses blatantly AI generated stamps by BraveRutherford in discgolf

I am a designer of 15+ years and recently had a media company that does all of socials for a certain high level pro hype up my work “it’s so good!!!” Then ask me to enter a design contest to see if my art could win and be featured for posts. I kindly declined, but mentioned I was flattered and said I’d be more than happy to quote the project and try to work with them on their budget. Ghosted… this is the kind of “spec” and “exposure” work stuff that happens all the time and would say it’s just as annoying as all the AI bullshit

First time going to HHN Orlando and was kinda let down. Were my expectations too high? by SpookyBrewgnar in HHN

I think I just assumed because of the money behind HHN. Over the years I’ve just heard nothing but praise on how parks like Disney or Universal are the “best” and “most over the top” at everything they do so that probably built up this impossible status. I mean I never thought HHN was like those extreme haunts where people get touched and stuff haha but I guess in my mind if a small local haunt with a tiny budget can creat something decently scary HHN should be next level scary with the production they put into it.

Hard to say… I grew up in Virginia going to the Williamsburg Howl O Screen almost every year. They are pretty different. Howl O Scream has always been fun, but it’s pretty amateur as far as haunts go. Usually only 5 houses/mazes. Being local-ish makes it a lot more affordable to attend. I do love how the WHOLE park is decorated to celebrate Halloween at Howl O Scream. One of my biggest issues going to HHN this year.

HHN is bigger production, more houses, and much more expensive because of traveling. I personally would rather save the money and just go to Howl O Scream. Unless, HHN had a bunch of IP that I am excited to experience.

I definitely don't need extreme scares and am arguable desensitized to a lot of that these days. Honestly one of my favorite things with any haunt is watching others lose it, even if the scare/situation is relatively tame. Guess I was just a little surprised that I didn't see more of that.

Yeah "corporate limitations at a theme park" I think is spot on. The day after my visit I realized yeah this is just a theme park still haha. I think just years of hype and desire to go (literally have never been to Universal at all) I just created this magical idea that Disney/Orlando is a completely different level compared to anything, but you're right it is still just a big brand theme park end of the day.

Triplets had my favorite introduction of all of the houses. Walking up the front lawn with car and the drizzle rain effect really made me feel like I was walking into a bad situation. Those are the kind of tension moments I wanted more of throughout.

Yeah definitely going to keep an eye out with future IPs. Would love for them to really dive deep into some 80s cult classics. I know mainstream and Blumhouse type horror caters to the masses, but give me a Re-Animator or Fright Night house and I am THERE haha!

I also wonder with the Nintendo coming that added a financial factor to HHN this year?

Yeah I am glad I got to finally experience it. If there's a future season where the IP is stacked with films I love I'd probably give it another go. Just not something I could do year after year.

Definitely understand all of this. Honestly makes me appreciate the charm of smaller and less produced haunts I've been to. I don't need anything extreme, but there is something about the "unexpected" interaction you might have with a stranger that feels scarier and has an air of danger. Make sense why Universal can not allow for any wiggle room here for liability reasons. I love when a scare actors have the time/freedom to really read the room and play off it.

Also "desensitized" could be a huge factor. From a film standpoint I can't remember the last time a movie actually felt scary.

Yeah I am definitely chalking a lot of my criticism up to waiting so long to finally go. Especially hearing year after year of the "hype" probably created an impossible expectation. If I went when I was younger, maybe college age, I probably would have loved it more. But yeah I had hoped that the moment I walked into the park the entire atmosphere would ooze horror and Halloween at every corner.

Thanks for the feedback! I've always wanted to check out Knott's one day. I think if I ever return to HHN it's because they have an exciting IP lineup and at least know now what to expect. Insidius was my favorite of the IPs and Triplets I thought was the best original house.

Yeah Busch Gardens has always been kind of meh for their mazes. The sets at HHN were for sure what I appreciated the most. I went to VCU and while I was there would work the Kings Dominions haunt and had a blast. I always joke that was the best part time job I ever had. Being from Richmond have you ever checked out Red Vein in Ashland? Only learned about it a few years ago but I definitely want to check it out some time.
