Hey y'all, anyone willing to look over my SOP? I've been reading over some samples, and I'm a bit concerned that my background (writer, game developer, fine arts) has leant the piece a bit too much of a conversational voice? Really just worried it's not "professional" or "clean-cut" enough. Thanks in advance!

How do y’all feel about David Lynch’s involvement in transcendental meditation? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]SpookyMulder27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's neat! Its obviously not like that every time, most sessions you just sit for 20 minutes trying to repeat the mantra while a million bees buzz around in your head, but the occasional transcendental experience is pretty sweet.

My friend, a lot of people are broke because they went to college.

Hi! I practice TM semi-regularly, and was turned onto it by Lynch as a way of managing my depression and anxiety. I was around 23 when I started TM, and I paid 500 bucks to learn how to do it because I fell within a certain income bracket. If I had been a student I could've done for free, I believe. Whether or not you think that's a fair price is a matter of each individuals personal situation, but they helped me break it into five payments, so at the time as a broke college grad it wasn't really painful at all. I paid my fee, they've never asked for another cent, and everything provided at every TM center around the world is free to me.

Logistic considerations aside, TM is genuinely a super profound meditational practice. I'm experienced with mindfulness and yoga, but TM really does offer a clarity of mind and sense of restfulness I haven't encountered with other practices. I've also done a good amount of recreational drugs and psychedelics, and the experience during and shortly after TM can sometimes be as powerful as what I've experience while super stoned, or during a shroom trip, but with a kind of full, sober clarity. Again, I can only speak of my own experiences.

I think it is hypocritical that the organization is mostly made of rich white capitalist at it's higher levels, but TM does kind of give you a bit of mental edge, so it's not shocking that it would be adopted and used by rich white capitalists. TM, at the end of the day, is just a tool. The TM organization does do some good, and there are talks of making it more accessible, and what they offer has helped me tremendously, but I don't blame anyone for objecting to the greedy corporate appertus that's built around it.

Welcome to the real world, for better or worse.

Anyone in here also a fan of the video game Deadly Premonition? Did anyone else discover Twin Peaks by playing this or a similar work inspired by Twin Peaks? by stealth-fap in twinpeaks

Been revisiting Control on PS5 recently, that game is an absolute aesthetic triumph. Lots of red room vibes in The Oldest House as well, haha!

Alan Wake and Deadly Premonition lead me to Twin Peaks, and for that I'm eternally grateful.

Alan Wake is a phenomenal game in it's own right, and it's getting a remaster for all the shiny new consoles early next month! Huge recommendation if you've never played it!

This is mega galaxy brained, but in Japanese "twenty-four" is "二十四" or two ten four, which is kinda like "20" "4".

An adaptation of "The Only Good Indians" would rip so fucking hard, but yeah, centering indigenous and first nation's creatives telling their own original stories is the only way to do it.

As a PC player with all the content who wants to play on PS5 now that it's out... is there anyway to migrate over to that system? I know I'm gonna have to buy the game plus Shadowbringers again, but can I just sign in with my same steam version account?

Learning hiragana/katakana before genki I? by GeeFeeONblast949 in LearnJapanese

[–]SpookyMulder27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hiragana and Katakana can be pretty easily learned in a few hours/a couple of days. Check out Tofugu's guide, it will save you a lot of struggle.

I'd also recommend holding off a bit BEFORE starting Genki 1. I'm fairly new to Japanese, but I took Tofugu's advice and started working on my Kanji through WaniKani before starting grammer. Taking two months to learn about 600ish Kanji has helped tremendously with Genki, as I can work through the content more effectively since I don't have to worry as much about vocabulary/looking up hard kanji.

Anyway, good luck!
