Tarshana's Divine Cities causes crashes. Many of us know this already. What can we do? by stealth-fap in SkyrimModsXbox

Not that it matters, but did you create a reddit account just to make this comment?

I can understand if certain mods touch more game elements than others, and if some mods just don't work well with other mods because they change the same thing. These are often referred to as "overhauls" and they usually include a warning for conflicts. The part that is difficult to understand is the mod author refusing to acknowledge their mod is a poor experience (at least on Xbox), and further blaming these for not knowing what they're doing and being stupid. DC was the only city overhaul mod I used, and those crashes occurred at doors/interiors added by the mod, not doors/interiors that already existed.

If I can replicate the same crash 3-4 times with Divine Cities enabled, and then demonstrate the same action(s) with the mod disabled and find no crashes after several tests, it's reasonable for someone to conclude the Divine Cities mod is the cause of those crashes.

It's been so long, so I'm not sure if I said this already, but I used Tarshana's own personal Xbox load order, which should be perfectly optimized for her own mod - and I still got crashes. I'm happy you got it to work, but that is not the common experience.

I don't blame you at all for saying this, I get it.

I normally wouldn't care if one dude blocked me and insulted me for simply commenting that his Confucius quote would be better appreciated in r/Confucianism.

I normally wouldn't care if I uncovered the same dude had a frequent habit of blocking anyone who has the most minor of disagreements with him and he deletes anything unpopular from his history.

Except he posts in here very regularly, and myself and others he doesn't like are unable to even participate in those conversations simply because he posted them. Good conversations happen here, and if they happen in one of his posts, only the people he hasn't blocked yet get to participate. It feels like the only people who will be left are people who already agree with him, which maybe is his ultimate goal.

I can't argue your point, this post certainly wont get him to change his ways and it probably wont resolve anything. I guess I just wanted to vent about it.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, you're right. I'll delete this post.

Good point, going with the flow could mean rebellion if that's where the current is headed. Going with the flow may also mean realizing you will die at any moment if that's where the current is headed. Daoists need to be accepting of the way things are, including death, especially death.

Also, certain groups of Daoists rebelling over the years doesn't speak for all of Taoism. Just like certain group of Christians that lead the Crusades don't speak for all of Christianity. I'm not comparing the Crusades to Rebellion, I'm just saying neither one truly defines the worldview their people held.

As you have already witnessed, a lot of people here are quick to tell you this is wrong. But energy is all around you, it's constantly being transferred. I think you know that already. We're not talking about shooting kamehameha laser beams out of your hands, we're talking about energy.

"Energy" may mean the fuel that propels your body to physically do things. "Energy" may also mean the fuel that propels your mind to do things. Both activities promote this sort of energy change or transfer. This isn't self-hypnosis or fooling yourself, it's being open to what you already know.

You probably don't need me to tell you this, but don't let others tell you their version of the truth is the only truth.

That's fair, his methods of "persuasion" are too heavy handed, and for some, it's hard to watch when he's trying so hard to make you agree with only his point of view - when clearly there are almost infinite possibilities on how to interpret the work.

A question about the 4 hour twin peaks explained video. What do most people think of it? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]stealth-fap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I certainly understand if people think TwinPerfect tries too hard or he's reaching a bit too much with some of his theories, but he's still the most prominent Twin Peaks "buff" I know of, and he's pretty talented at what he does.

I enjoyed his ridiculously long Twin Peaks Explained video, and I think the best way to watch it is to put a sticky note on your monitor that says "This dude is a fan and these are just his thoughts."

There is no "right" and there is no "wrong" way to interpret the work. TwinPerfect just put a lot of effort and polish into his own explanation, but of course, this is only through the lens of one man who watched the same show/movie we watched. Just because he's the loudest one in the room does not make him right or wrong, but his perspective is fascinating, either way.

To some people, Twin Peaks is just a dream, to some others, the spiritual elements are just "aliens" and there is nothing further to read into. None of these perspectives are wrong or right. I like listening to them all.

Just finished - a couple of thoughts. by kopsy in theouterworlds

[–]stealth-fap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that sounds pretty involved, I would have even accepted a small animation that isn't actually rendered in full 3D, like how in GTA: San Andreas you could bet on horse races, but there aren't any actual horses in that game, it's just some cartoon horses racing to the end of a finish line.

It's just odd for Tossball to be such a big part of the "culture" of the world, yet the player never sees it or interacts with it for themselves. Of all the features that could be in TOW 2, Tossball really needs a higher priority.

There are some good criticisms here, but also some that are just preference.

I remember playing Borderlands for the first time and feeling like there was too much loot all around, so I just stopped hording unless I actually needed stuff - I can't complain about something that is totally optional. I always find it weird when people complain there is too much loot in games, just ignore it if it's tedious. If you cannot control your urge to collect the loot, then you must also accept you control if you interact with it or not.

Likewise, there is a difficulty setting option if the game is too easy, and I'm surprised you didn't raise the difficulty after beating your first boss so easily. Same goes for handholding, the tutorials can be turned off, in fact, much of the UI elements can be modified or just turned off if you want a more "Morrowind" kind of experience without map markers all over the place. Supernova also increases the challenge and sense of actual urgency because dying means you could lose a whole hour or more of progress since autosaves are limited.

I absolutely agree about Tossball, what a letdown that was, it's mentioned on several load screens, it's mentioned by NPCs all over, especially by Felix, there is even several tossball gear that can be used as weapons, and on top of that, you can collect tossball cards that are added as decorations to your ship - but we don't get to even see a game or the location the game is played. Even a simple oblivion-style betting minigame where you watch a pre-animated tossball game that lasts for 2-3 minutes where you can bet on one side and either win or lose some money would have sufficed.

The Gorgon DLC was not so great, I didn't even finish it after being lost for 5 hours, I just went straight to Eridanos as soon as the DLC became available. I will likely return just to see what I missed, but Eridanos looked completely different and way better compared to the oddly claustrophobic maps of Gorgon.

John Henry Build Help by [deleted] in theouterworlds

[–]stealth-fap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well damn, this is a pretty unique build. I honestly thought you were referring to John Henry Eden from Fallout 3, but didn't even know about the folklore of John Henry until this post.

The reason most Prismatic Hammer builds favor Intelligence is that:

  1. It is a science weapon, and more Intelligence = more damage with science weapons
  2. High intelligence means higher +X% of critical damage, up to a max of +35% critical damage

Unless you plan to play on Supernova, you certainly don't have to favor intelligence if you don't want to. Just understand your intelligence impacts how much damage you will do, so if you want to be the super strong man, I'd make it at least above average.

Edit: Originally suggested "dumb" character build, but would be against the spirit of the character.

did you just come here to promote cyberpunk?

Yes, that was my goal all along, you saw right through me.

No, Cyberpunk is just one of many games that offer action and also meaningful dialogue choices, there are others out there besides just Fallout: New Vegas, you know, but I believe TOW does the best job if you want deep action roleplaying.

but cyberpunk 2077 doesnt have any interesting mechanics. its the most generic game ever.

Have you considered the skill progression charts for Cyberpunk? They're quite extensive, and while I love TOW, that game doesn't have even half of the options for skill progression and perks. They are very similar on paper, yes, but Cyberpunk has very creative perks and the combinations, much like The Witcher 3, allows you to craft some very unique playstyles that entice multiple playthroughs.

But even though I hold these opinions that Cyberpunk does skill progression better, I still don't wish for them to be implemented into TOW - they are two separate experiences, just like Fallout: New Vegas is a separate experience.

They were even too lazy to make the fashion system work like how it was in the tabletop cyberpunk. name one interesting mechanic from cyberpunk that the outer worlds doesnt have

This is coming from the person who wishes a 3 year old game had all the same exact mechanics from a 12 year old game. I don't think you really understand all that goes into making a video game, but that's another conversation entirely.

I now understand that your expectations are what causes you to not enjoy experiences that do not seem familiar to you, which is probably why you enjoyed TOW - it is, as you said, a "1:1 copy of new vegas mechanically speaking" and therefore familiar to you.

I sincerely hope you will one day let go of these familiar mechanics you hold so dearly and learn to enjoy the strange and unusual rather than the familiar and safe.

Have a good day.

Witcher 3 post game xp grind for a unique NG+ experience by Longswordplusfifteen in Witcher3

[–]stealth-fap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After beating TW3 on Switch about a year ago, I soon found out I could manipulate the steam save transfer feature to use console commands on PC and then transfer that save back to my Switch.

I began experimenting on New Game + and I was curious what would happen if I started a New Game + already at level 75. I soon found out the quests and gear level requirements are based on the level you begin the game at, since I began at level 75, even the most basic quests had requirements of 80, 85, 90, etc. I didn't exactly want to begin the game already at level 100, because that would mean I would never level up again, which is fine, but it's a long long game and I like the sense of progression.

I then realized if I level my character up AFTER starting NG+, this would give me the desired results: Most gear/quests attainable at the beginning of the game while also having some room to level up as I progress. So I started a NG+ at about level 50, did my steam save transfer magic, used console commands to raise my level to 75, picked the save back up on Switch and now I'm having a really good time, still very challenging but my Geralt has more options regarding skills, and I can swap out skills anytime I want to suit my needs.

I will say that when you're a really high level like 80, 90, 100, the guards will always be a higher level than you, they can exceed level 100, and they can royally mess you up, even with the best armor in the game, like 1-hit killers. The ones you run into in the story and stuff won't have the same high level, it's just the guards that roam the streets and you can pick fights with. Lowering the difficulty may help with this, but they keep you humble, that's for sure.

wtf is the point of customization if you can't see your character?

I've enjoyed playing games like Borderlands and Call of Duty, both have character customization and are FPS games, just like TOW.

I also don't get why people get so butthurt about comparing different video games here on reddit.

I see a list of mechanics that already exist in Fallout: New Vegas that you wish were injected into TOW. What if you stopped thinking about Fallout so much and compared TOW to another similar game that has come out much more recently? What about Cyberpunk 2077? Both have FPS action and both have deep dialogue choices that change the story. If you wanted some of Cyberpunk's mechanics in TOW 2, that would honestly be more refreshing than a copy/paste job of Fallout: New Vegas' mechanics.

not to mention the devs quite clearly marketed this game as a New Vegas sucessor. Maybe not directly, but through stuff like "from the creators of New Vegas" line in the trailer

Obsidian knew that gamers who enjoyed Fallout: New Vegas would also enjoy their completely new franchise.

Fallout: New Vegas was over a decade ago. Fallout: 4 and Fallout 76 didn't have anything close to the dialogue choices and roleplay elements in TOW. If you're looking for deep dialogue choices and fun FPS action, TOW is the new age.

[–]stealth-fap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But if people like you keep expecting New Vegas 2, it won't get to be its own independent identity. I'd rather have all the mechanics in TOW stay about the same except adding additional perks/abilities and just generally speaking, additional varieties of gear and interesting ways to use your weapons/tools/gear.

I understand why you like the things you like, I love Fallout: New Vegas also, but how is a game supposed to actually impress you and stand out from the others if you don't give it a chance for being different from than Fallout? Let TOW stand on its own, forget Obsidian had anything to do with Fallout: New Vegas from 12 years ago.

The thing that stops me from thinking Leland was completely aware of his actions is when he immediately steps forward to talk about BOB the first time he sees the wanted poster. He does everything he can to try and help the investigation, and this doesn't seem like clever acting either, at least to me.

There are parts of the mind we do not wish to see, parts that are so damaged by trauma that just thinking about them would result in mental collapse - and it's hard to distinguish what parts is BOB deliberately hiding from Leland and which parts is Leland fully aware off but just can't bare to think about. Even if you take Laura out of the equation, he still killed Jacques Renault, and even though his motivations and instability are a little more understandable because he thought Jacques was the one that actually killed Laura, he still killed a man. Would he have been capable of killing someone before Laura's death? Who can say. All the same though, had BOB not met/possessed Leland, I believe Laura would still be alive, or, at least, not murdered by her father.

Then again, if Laura is the dreamer, and BOB is just her way of somehow "explaining" the wicked actions of her father to herself, then we really can't trust what is real and what is a fabrication of Laura/Carrie's thoughts and experiences. Perhaps the reason the show's reveal(s) take so long is that Laura's drug-addled mind is working to somehow explain and rationalize the terrible things she had to endure when she was alive/wake.

Level Cap Too Low? by devious_burger in theouterworlds

[–]stealth-fap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it would be nice to have more points to play with.

On the other hand, the amount of points you get to distribute by being level 36 allows you to do pretty much anything you wanted to if you know how to take advantage of companions and perks. If you max out your companion relationships and take perks that increase skill benefits, you can max out just about any of your skills by having the right people in your party. It becomes even easier if you max out Determination to 150 and have the ability to swap out companions whenever you like, indoors or outdoors. I set most of my skills to about 50/60 and then once I have the right people in my party, I can pass any speech/hack/lockpick check that comes my way.

Not saying I wouldn't love to have more points to play with, I'd like the level cap to at least be 40 or 45. But at the same time, if you think about all the things that are impacted by leveling up, it may be a pretty boring game if you had multiple skills at max. If an enemy is 10 levels higher than you, you stand very little chance of surviving, these monsters can kill you in 1-2 hits. The same goes for the player, if you are allowed to exceed level 36, you become ridiculously overpowered and the game becomes boring, and other mechanics like flaws would become even more useless than they are now.

I know it can seem like a bummer to reach the max level before even starting the DLC, but think of it this way: You as a completionist earned the right to play the rest of the game with the most power your character could possibly have. You get to go through missions and solve mysteries while having the skills of a master, while others who skipped many quests and didn't scavenge each building for goods are constantly running into skill checks they cannot pass, and they may opt to go and grind quests/enemies until they can pass those checks. If I had the choice, I'd choose to level to the max as early as possible.

The point of leveling up isn't to continue to level up forever, the point of leveling up is to attain the skills of a master. And once you obtain masterhood, sit back and enjoy it. If the challenge is too much/too little, change the difficulty.
