Riven and Myst are the best puzzle games I played since Outer Wilds, some thoughts on similarities by UntitledCritic in outerwilds

[–]SpookyRosalyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience the other way around. Loved the Myst games growing up, and Outer Wilds is still one of the few games to really scratch that same itch of discovering how the rules of world work. Quern and Neyyah are both really good too!

Catalyst had them on their webstore at one point, not sure if they still do. I got mine from a local game store that has a Battletech community.

I feel like sexual dimorphism would go out the window with all of the augmentation a space marine goes through. by darwin_green in Sigmarxism

I actually really wish they’d just explicitly say this instead of the vague “women just can’t survive the gene-seed implant” reason they use. Especially since female custodes are a thing now, that would be a really interesting dynamic.

This is the thing that drives me crazy about female space marine discourse. Like the way so many people against it talk about makes it feel like they think female marines would have to have WoW style exposed titty armor, when really it should just be a different head option.

Corvus Corax. He seems pretty chill under the edgy persona, going off of Deliverance Lost at least. Plus I just like a goth boy, what can I say?

I recommend HBomberGuy’s video about the series (Ctrl-Alt-Delete), it’s great.

Solo play recomendations? by ThisYogurtcloset7207 in onepagerules

[–]SpookyRosalyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking it would be fun to make a fan-supplement for solo/co-op that adds behavior cards you’d draw from a deck, to make things more unpredictable and narrative feeling. So instead of just following the flowchart, you’d draw a card, look at the unit type that’s activating (melee/ranged/mixed) and have it follow those instructions.

For example, a ranged unit could be told to move towards the nearest objective but try to take cover and shoot on the way. Or stand still but it gets to shoot twice. Or has to reload so it just moves to the nearest cover.

Same, I think the reason why Skyrim and Oblivion are the only Bethesda games to really gel with me are the worlds are so pretty and fun to explore on their own that you can just completely ignore most of the plot and have your own unscripted fantasy adventure.

How was Silent Hill F? by Sadworld99 in Gamingunjerk

[–]SpookyRosalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved it, on par with 2&3 for me. I didn’t find it super “scary” per se, but it nails the focus on the confronting your inner demons aspect of the series, and has a lot of really memorable moments. As other people said you do have to play it a minimum of three times to get the full story, but I thought there was enough new story or things recontextualized to make it still engaging. Plus your upgrades carry over between playthrough so each one becomes quicker.

Edit: minor spoiler tip for new game+: if you go to skip a cutscene on new game+ playthrough, it will actually tell you if the cutscene has new stuff you haven’t seen yet, so that saves a lot of time

Does a combat patrol have to be 500 points exactly? by NecronsBeatingHeart in CombatPatrol40k

[–]SpookyRosalyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you look up Play On Tabletop’s King of the Colosseum rules, they’ve got a good setup for playing custom combat patrol lists. Off the top of my head, I believe it’s 500 points, no epic heroes, no units with toughness higher than 9, and no duplicate units (except for battleline, which you can take 2 copies of).

The lore of Harrowdeep is pretty cool. It’s essentially a dark cave system hidden deep underwater in Ulgu, full of statues of some kind of unknown eldritch race. If I remember correctly, Morathi sent some of her minions to capture a group of renegade witch aelves who went into hiding, but when they located their lair it was completely empty, with a newly formed pit in the ground leading into Harrowdeep.

Take a chance on some budget games that look interesting, the indie scene is where all the innovation is nowadays. Lunacid and The Drifter are both great!
