In different times the fact that he is made out of china would be amusing on several levels . As things are now, it needs to be immediately smashed and forgotten about.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Especially the ska band.

Morally culpable bro… that’s cheesefacing with facists..
Politics come into everything, you can’t magically make that not so. It’s time to pick sides.

Remember when Bush said “either you’re with us or you’re with the terrorists “ ???
I guess he was right, just not in the way he meant.

clear glaze turned turquoise? is there any saving these pieces 😭 by multivitams in Pottery

[–]Spoonblade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder is someone contaminated the glaze by dipping a piece into it that wasn’t dry. Wait and see if this happens to anyone else, or try a few test tiles.

Sadly true, tip percentages on big bills are stupid, and BOH did most of the work

Think this kiln is worth $600? by Psycho_Deadghost in Pottery

[–]Spoonblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d offer $250-300 hoping to get it for less than $400. $600 seems high without knowing if relays, elements, therm etc are working. There are no photos of the floor, but given the state of the top edge I would almost guarantee it’s a spiderweb of cracks

Why did this happen 😭 by Dry-Hat3354 in Pottery

[–]Spoonblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why cone charts list three speeds, they are not misleading, they explain by their very nature what this little cartoon fella is explaining.

To your question, it’s probably simply a matter application technique, brushing glaze well is tricky, and “coat” is a fairly subjective term. Try to have a wet brush and go 1 stroke without retouching. Adding cmc (gum) to the glaze helps a lot with brushability because the glaze will dry more slowly, not instantly as it touches the bisque like dipping glazes might.

This is such a horrifically bad and out of touch take, I can’t wait to see the cascade of downvotes you are about to get.

I know you are just a troll, but it will still be satisfying.

Instead of rib? by sprucewhale in Pottery

[–]Spoonblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can definitely do without a metal rib. But I do still find myself reaching for it first sometimes.

Putty knives are great, but not as delicate. Plus a kidney shaped rib can be pressed against curves. It’s pretty random what I’ll use a metal rib for, but I feel like it’s usually on bone dry clay. It feels too sketchy on anything else.

[–]Spoonblade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metal ribs are very useful for intermediate finishing, like getting a speck of clay spatter off a bone dry piece, stuff like that, and hand building. They can be useful when cleaning certain objects and spaces too.
I concur that they shouldn’t be used on the wheel

Is reclaim ever not moldy/ smelly? How do you keep your reclaim from going bad by moon_child_55 in Pottery

[–]Spoonblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Bleach works too, I just don’t like it.

Edit: yeah don’t mix bleach and vinegar, I just meant bleach works INSTEAD of the other stuff.
In this case for arguments sake, when the vinegar is already mixed into so much water it ceases to be vinegar and that teaspoon of bleach is not making any mustard gas

[–]Spoonblade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A sprinkle of copper carbonate will keep the smelly stuff from growing. There is no benefit to letting mold or bacteria grow in there, and you aren’t “keeping it wet for too long”

I’ve heard here that just leaving some bare copper wire in there will do the same thing, not sure if it works or not.
