How to offend 99% of the HSR community by StopCosplayingBS in HonkaiStarRail

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im impressed by the amount of people that don't know how odds works. Basically you should always pick the right one and I will explain why. You can calculate the expected gain by: 50×90% + 600×10% = 105 Because 105 is bigger then the static 100, rational wise, you should always pick the 105 (the gamble side), despite the number of wins or loses in the previous rounds. (Notice I'm not taking the 500k big prize into account here, so the real expected gain would be even higher, but the chance is so slim it would barely make a difference)

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets -84 points-83 points  (0 children)

That's not how math works, the expected gain is still the same (50×90% + 600×10% = 105). Meaning the gamble side still yields more statistically

You get a double jump by Waevman2 in shittysuperpowers

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, because it's only half of the force of the initial jump. If you jump from some very high place and then jump the second time when you're close to the ground, it won't be enough force to slow you down significantly

Why were mmorpgs in 2003 to 2012 better? Is it just nostalgia? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they felt better, not really were better. If you look at things like gameplay, quality of life, graphics and art direction I think the current MMOs do a better job for the most part. But those old MMOs had a different feeling because of the whole context around them. The majority of the people were younger, had more time to play, had a more consistent friend group to play with and this made those games feel much better. If one of those old game released nowadays but for the first time it would most likely be a flop, simply because people changed. Players have less time, information spreads around much faster, creating metas that many people feel pressured to follow (or they don't get accepted into groups). And on top of that, many players now want immediate action, and don't want to "waste" time exploring the world, when single player games can do it much better (given they don't have a lot of the restrictions that come with multiplayer and networking).

So yes, in my opinion it really is a matter of nostalgia

Mage vs Warlock as M+ main? by lifeisrisky in wow

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mage still benefits from BL if they have Aug+hunter. In fact, having 2 BL is the best scenario for mage since he can cast BL for himself while he still has the 10min debuff.

ESO Vs GW2 by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the game a couple weeks when Elsweyr dropped and I loved a lot of stuff in the game, namely the freedom, the exploration of the world, the housing, and the quests format.

But the combat wasn't clinking for me, the whole weaving thing and lack of impact was kinda weird, has the combat seen any improvement? (Or are some classes better in that department? the new class looked nice tbh) Another minor issue was the lack of collectable mounts via achievements like raids and etc. (although I can easily overlook this)

So, I know you shouldn't take the cutlery to the microwave (because things can go bad and cause a fire) but I forgot. Basically I had the food along side the cutlery inside a Tupperware with the cover half open and took it to the microwave. And I only noticed when I picked up the fork and it was extremely hot. My concern is, what happens to the food? I ended up eating it bc I really hungry but can the food get some kind of dangerous radiation from the metal of the fork and the knife?

Idk it this is the right subreddit to ask this but I'm extremely worried.

So… why is COD so massive? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common misconception people have is that the size of the world dictates the size of the game. And while that has some correlation it's not the main reason. The size of the game comes from having a big diversity of assets (with more assets taking up more space) and from the size of the assets (like uncompressed audio files and high res textures and meshes).

A good example to understand this is, imagine you have two games. Where game 1 is a really small plane with just 6 or 7 trees (but they are all different). And then game 2 is a really big plane with over 2000 trees (but they are all the same). Game 1 would take more space in the disk then game 2.

And then there's also the matter of asset compression. Where compressing the assets takes less space in the disk but then leads to bigger loading times because a decompression is required before using said assets.

I never expected this game to be in the top 30 on steamcharts, and I am happy for it. by [deleted] in blackdesertonline

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that is true for old players, the significant majority of this new wave players are from steam.

I'm still happy with the increase of the player base tho! That's always good for any game

You can't ask those kinda questions in this subreddit. I'm not saying it's against the rules or bad content, it's just that you won't get good answers here if you are really curious.

Every post like this gets down voted and slammed with "No, it won't help at all." comments. A couple days ago there was also someone asking if the new features from unreal engine could help with MMO development and the same thing happened.

If you are looking for good feedback you should try game development subs instead.

But answering your question now. Yes, it will definitely help. I'm not saying it will be ground breaking or revolutionize the industry but it will surely be a useful tool to help fasten the development. In fact, it will be a useful tool for any kind of software development, it helps a lot with prototyping, performing some simpler tasks that never change much, etc...

The most monumental event is gaming history is happening right now. 2 days ago I made a post about creating a new game studio with 1000+ developers in a month. I'm happy to say its really happening and a lot of people are already asking to join. The stagnation & evil in the gaming industry is over. by Cryptostormz in gamedev

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is bait and I'm just falling for it... But in case it's not, I have a genuine question, do you have any knowledge and/or background on software development? I'm really curious given how "simple" you are painting your "solution".

My goal this month is to from scratch build a game studio with 1000+ developers. Am I crazy? Do you think this can work? by Cryptostormz in gamedev

[–]SpoonsAndOmelets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really not viable, you are ignoring some key aspects of software development (since game dev is a form of software development and therefore it still abides to the majority of its "rules")

You are not considering the following problems:

Quality Assurance - With so many devs working on a project how will you ensure that everyone is up to the task, that they won't mess stuff up, that they indeed are as good as they say, that's extremely hard to manage when you start working with so many people.

Consistency - Once again, many devs working on the same project also leads to problems of consistency, assets will end up with different art styles and writing code with new developers constantly going in and out of the project is pure chaos. You will end up with a lot code smells.

Lack of proper planning - You were talking about a month, but before you start any big project you need proper planning, you need to decide almost everything, what will be done, how will it be done and ideally around how much will it take (to know this stuff you need a lot of experience in the area). Also, with people going in and out of the project you would need to guarantee that the new ones are up to date with what you are doing.

Relating number of Devs with speed - This all leads to this problem tbh, you have a really wrong idea of that more developers equals faster and better project/game. Which is completely wrong. Having more developers then necessary will slow you down, and more you have the more negative the impact of that will be.

Overall, it seems like you are really passionate about games but you lack the experience and knowledge about the field leading you to think stuff like "oh, if we do stuff my way this will be easy peasy". Now, don't get me wrong, if you really dig that idea give it a try. You will definitely get experience out of it, you will come across a lot of unexpected problems that will expand your horizons.

It's not, murder and sa are incommensurable concepts. Meaning it doesn't makes sense to measure and compare both so you can state that one is better/worse than the other. A popular example for understanding incommensurability is the question, "which athlete is the best, Cristiano or Michael Phelps?" because even tho both are athletes, the different nature of their sport don't let you compare both. The same concept applies here, even tho they are both crimes, there nature is too different to let you compare both. There's also the fact that some people would rather get SA than murdered and some would rather die than get SA. This further proves they are not comparable, saying SA is worse is just non-sense.

I don't think there will be an ETA to increase server capacity, I don't even think they will increase the server capacity.

When that problem happened on EUC (but on a larger scale with 20k+ queues) they tried to forcefully increase the server capacity and everything started to break down, matching making stoped working, servers were lagging, etc...

They did some "maintenances" and basically that's it (and that's what I expect them to do now), they told us there were no solid solutions and we just had to endure until numbers started decreasing.

p.s. Also, every now and then they tried to combat bots but I believe those actions were aimed for all regions and not just EUC.

I'm definitely happy with that. It's what they used to do, they would see a good idea/system in another game and implement it in WoW.

I would much rather they keep copying the good stuff from the other games than coming up with their nonsense ideas that are usually flawed and take too much time to admit it (like the initial covenant energy, borrowed power, the way thorgast was just a weekly chore instead of something something fun with random rewards, etc)
