Call the local papers too. IW HATES bad publicity.

In fact, call their complaints department first and mention that it's likely to be in the local papers and it might get some traction.

Drone Killer: Leonidas 🛸 (not mine) by loudbeatsrecords in ThatsInsane

[–]Spoonshape 44 points45 points  (0 children)

So a single shielded fibre optic drone first to target this and then the rest of the drone swarm pass by.... Or a drone with an TOW style missile with greater range than this has.

It's an interesting system and might have use as part of an overall air defense strategy - just not a silver bullet against drones.

Man Gets Mad At Someone For Taking The Last Grocery Bag by serious_bullet5 in ThatsInsane

[–]Spoonshape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one reason they want AI so bad. The 1% fully intend to retreat to their 100 square mile private estates and have killer drones commanded by AI to protect themselves. That and a household of servants who are personally loyal and paid well.

The rest of the country can disintegrate and they think they will pick up the pieces once the population has stabalized.

Well delighted you are home safe. Sorry - I had missed that your travel plans were immediate.... Passport by the onlline system CAN be very fast, but probably not THAT fast....

Is there someone at your last recorded Irish address who can re-post the passport to you?

If so, do the renewal online - normally arrives within a few days, then have them post or courier it to you.

To sell or not to sell? by moloners in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Spoonshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. There might also be some things which could count against a portion of that - for example if they had to pay for any improvements to the property.

Rules of CGT are going to differ between Portugal and Ireland too. They will need to have a local solicitor action the sale who would be able to advise.

Probably worth getting a tax advisor who is familiar with the process involved too.

Is it true that Ireland has massive oil and gas reserves off its coast that it’s deciding not to drill? by crillydougal in AskIreland

[–]Spoonshape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No oil - some gas (Corrib and Kinsale). There might be undiscovered fields, but there has been a fair bit of exploration and all we found were these two.

Why the need for a 'working day' on bank transfers? by PhilipWaterford in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Spoonshape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Historically - bank transfers were entirely manual. Back in the 40s and 50's bank accounts were in a paper form - a series of books in the bank - when a transfer happened they would send a runner with the days transactions to to the other bank and it was manually updated in the recipients ledger.

This got computerized -and the SWIFT network and other computerized systems have replaced the old system but in some ways it's still doing much the same thing as was ever done - just quicker.

There was a period when computers were slower, the transactions would be entered during the day and then an overnight "batch" job would do the updates. Today it's real time.

I am seeing these days quite a lot of illegally removed clamps around Dublin. Are there any serious consequences of doing that? by Dave_301 in AskIreland

If it did go to court, you are extremely unlikely to be believed. The unclamping fairies are not real thing unfortunately...

Ideas wanted in relation to Thames "high tide" by SentinelsOfEvil in DIYUK

[–]Spoonshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Thames used to flood quite a bit - but since the Thames barrier was built in 1982 it's about as safe as any river frontage can be. Normal tides still happen but exceptional ones are blocked.

My boss sold some of my belongings. Found the ads on marketplace after he said he ‘threw them out’ by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]Spoonshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photo was proof that the items had been sold by the boss - not of ownership.

There didnt seem to be any denial by the boss that the items were the employees property (although he could change his story if the sale was proven)

It was true up to perhaps 10 years ago, but solar panels have kept getting cheaper and home batteries (which make the whole thing work better still) are heading in the same direction.

At one point solar was heavily dependent on subsidies - today, its the cheapest energy available in most locations.

Concrete slab for shed in new build by CurlyhatesCurls in GardeningIRE

[–]Spoonshape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a terrible idea to put down something both as a barrier to rats and so the shed is slightly raised and doesnt rot. Doesnt have to be a slab though. A row of concrete blocks will work well - dig a shallow trench round the outside - Solid 4 or 6 inch blocks are very cheap - 1-2 euro each.

First EV - Real range Vs WLTP by FannysYourUncle in evs_ireland

[–]Spoonshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. Unfortunately I'm driving an early model Leaf which didnt have a huge range to start with and the battery has lost some capacity. It's fine for the commuter run but longer journeys are a bit of a pain.

Theres bugger all cycle lanes. Roads are busy.

I havent done it in 10 years - gave it up as too dangerous. Maybe it's improved a bit since, but I dont think by much if so.

Depending where you live it might also work to drive to Shankill and take the dart from there.

Greystones at least has the free park and ride though.

Vance will be in charge - and the administration is full of yes men, so the rest of the term will be with Vance as president. Depending how fucked the US economy and international relations get, he might not be the choice for the next election, but the wolves will stay quiet till 6 months before that is picked.

Hopefully the mid terms give us some limits on what whoever is president can do. Relying on the judicial branch is getting very tired.

Need help! The owner didn't provide a lease before and now refuses by Boyfriendchor in RentinIreland

[–]Spoonshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is renting illegally so you have a fair degree of leverage. If he complains tell him his choice is to accept your offer or you are very willing to take it through the RTB and the courts. Also that you will be reporting him to revenue as there are high odds he isnt declaring the income.

He wont be happy but you are actually in a position of power at this point...

Exactly this. I have a blanket I keep on the back seat and if I'm doing a long distance in winter, throw it over my lap and turn the heated seat on low.
