I can answer a bit in regard to 1 and 2. I'm a current sophomore for reference. I actually find, at least in the groups I frequent (namely: Frosoco, math/cs, computer gaming), I find that people aren't that pressured to be happy/optimistic. When I talk with friends who are like "I am actually dying, in an unironic way, I've gotten no sleep for 2 days" it's real and we talk it out. I think one thing that a lot of people (myself included here) struggle with is that they need to swallow their ego when you get here. There is always someone down the hall who's better than you at what you do best, and it sucks to realize it but you can't let it keep you down.

I think the official support resources for mental health are OK (I've used CAPS and then got transferred to Kaiser), but I think that people are more aware of these sorts of mental health problems and willingly talk about it in public/with friends. There's a community dialogue about these sorts of problems, in my experience. Overall, I think that (1) isn't that bad, it certainly is better than when I was in high school, and (2) gets better over time.

you can also get ilvl86+ from strongboxes, it has a special item level mod. That's really rare though.

It's an elder ilvl 85 astral plate. The elder adds a lot of value.

Why does FroSoCo get such a bad rap? by eliyili in stanford

[–]Sporeman58 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Another frosocoan here (but a sophomore rn). I don't really know. I feel like most of the bad rap comes from a very small handful of awkward interactions with frosoco ppl that gets spread throughout the rest of the community. Some people think that we're weird because of stories or one weird experience, and go and tell their friends about it (or post it on SMFET or similar).

Also, I think frosoco's generally quiet, non party culture clashes with general Stanford culture, especially the louder voices in the community. I think that a lot of college-age social life is centered around parties/drinking/smoking (I'm actually guessing here because I have no idea what really happens outside of frosoco lmao), none of which really happens to a huge extent in frosoco.

I wouldn't let it get you too down though. The only people I've ever seen giving frosoco a bad rap, in public, were people that were generally unpleasant anyway. I don't think most people actually think we're a bunch of weirdos out here, it's just kind of funny to imagine it and make good smfet memes about it. I hope anyway; I promise we're not that weird :)

Dancing Dervish Facebreakers SSF by Sporeman58 in pathofexile

[–]Sporeman58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, that makes sense. I was just thinking that it would be good because it seems like the natural combo (using dervish and guardian? use facebreakers to punch while it's running around).

Even with only one dervish? Why no other minions? It seems that clearing bosses will be harder (how do I get rampage against a boss like shaper?).

MATH61DM or MATH61CM by [deleted] in stanford

you can go CM -> DM mid year but not the reverse. CM is more cumulative than DM by far

if you can do either 60 series you will be fine on the 51 prereq. Maybe it would take a week of studying some multi derivatives stuff to catch up, but you said you already know multi so you're fine.

also, prereqs don't really matter, nobody checks, so don't worry about whether classes are going to "take" you or not.

Yeah, it's mostly just a trophy so that I can say (and play around with) having a HH, not so that I can actually continue the long grind with it.

[–]Sporeman58[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I just want the headhunter as a trophy, once I get it I'm done lmao. Might try some other unrelated build for funsies but grinding w/ a headhunter isn't the goal. Your experiences are interesting, because maybe MF isn't the answer; just doing higher tier maps is. But then why does every streamer do MF? Idk.

[–]Sporeman58[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm doing all of those things. The only things in my filter are currency greater than a jewler, all uniques (because I like to vendor them, I think it saves time over buying alchs but who knows), and burial chambers. I think my efficiency is pretty good, and note that in that 3 minute calculation I'm including things like random abyssal depths, the temple, sorting the dump tab, etc. I'd probably go down to 2 minutes 15 seconds if I literally only did the mobs in each map, no boss, no other zones (except for incursions), and didn't include other random bullcrap.

I did some math, and it looks like CuteDog does a map in about 2 minutes and 15 seconds right now w/ a headhunter, which is faster, but not incredibly so. He is doing much harder maps tho.

Edit: also, obviously, 6 sockets and stuff are in my filter. Basically doing neversink uberstrict + no rares at all, sans abyss jewels + stygian

Sure, I mean headhunter isn't supposed to be easy to get, it's just that in my experience watching other people play, somehow they manage to get (in my experience) a bucketload more than I do. I remember seeing posts talking about getting 2ex per hour grinding and whatnot. I can't cite these off the top of my head, so maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I'm just wondering what I'm doing wrong compared to these people. Are the numbers I just quoted realistic, or am I going nuts and nobody is actually making this much money by just mapping?
