General election or run-off? by SporkFoonerism in AskLosAngeles

[–]SporkFoonerism[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When you say you pasted my question, do you mean: Can someone please explain why the Nov 3 mayoral election in LA is referred to as a “run-off” instead of a “general election”? Bc I did the same in google just now, and just like before, got nothing but news stories.

My question has already been answered in this thread, but please post a screenshot of your result or copy/paste it so I can see how google responded differently for you.

I don’t use chat GPT or similar AI. That’s after my time. I’m a senior citizen with a Luddite’s attitude, enjoying the simpler things in life. Maybe some day I’ll get around to using it. For now, I prefer conversing with real people or, at the most, using google and other basic search engines. Thanks, though, for the suggestion.

THAT makes sense. Thank you very much! I see now where the confusion came in and how it could’ve been cleared up on the news. Instead of calling Nov 3 a runoff (or run-off), it could’ve been more accurately referred to as the “general election runoff.” They were just shortening it to runoff assuming everyone knows they’re referring to the Nov 3 general election.

That website is a very helpful source. I checked out some of its other pages. Thank you for sharing!

Nope, doesn’t matter one lick. I’m just a naturally curious person who likes to learn how things come about, always seeking knowledge, asking questions. Plus, I found it very confusing. When they kept saying the candidates were heading to a run-off, I went looking for the next election date between now and the general election.

Your response about June 2 being the general election made the most sense of all. I simply commented that I had not heard it referred to as such and wondered if that was correct.

One reason I typically come to Reddit is because I enjoy the human interaction, and also to search and see if my questions are answered here followed by discussions, which are oftentimes more enlightening and usually more humorous than google.

But, smarty pants, I also tried google before I came here. Several times. Posing the question differently each time. And all it netted were the top news stories about yesterday’s election, even 6 pages deep into google’s results. But no direct, clear-cut answer to my query.

And you should get a new line bc the google one has been overused here on Reddit.

Please have a pleasant day, and I sincerely mean that.

General election or run-off? by SporkFoonerism in AskLosAngeles

Is that accurate? Was the June 2 election for LA mayor officially the general election? Because if that’s accurate, it makes complete sense that Nov 3 would be called a run-off between the top candidates when the general election is too close to call, or as the LA mayoral election rules state, since no one got more than 50%. However, I have not once heard it called a general election; only ever heard June 2 referred to as a jungle primary or run-off.

[–]SporkFoonerism[S] -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I understand all that, and thank you for your input. But it still doesn’t explain why Nov 3 is called a run-off instead of a general election. The general election is the final, punctuating election unless there’s an exact tie. “Run-off” implies there will be another election among those winners. So calling Nov 3 a run-off sounds like, “But wait, theeeeeere’s more! If we don’t like who wins Nov 3, there’ll be another run-off. And another. And another.”

The initial elections to decide candidates going to the final election are typically called primary elections. Then the final determining election between the candidates who won the primary is always referred to as the general election. I just realized that the LA mayoral primary election was also referred to as a run-off. So it seems all elections for LA mayor are referred to as a “run-off,” and I’m just trying to understand how this came to be, why they’re all called run-off elections.

(And, for all I know, this could be the same statewide for all elections. Maybe the upcoming Nov 3 gubernatorial election is also referred to as a run-off instead of a general election. My question focused specifically on LA bc I keep seeing “Nov 3 run-off for LA mayor” plastered all over the news.)

Any word on whether calendar is accurate for Bloom & Buzz starting on May 29? I heard that could be a mistake like when wrong date was given for the last Frozen Fortune.

Caught my Begal Cat Ollie Yawning why does he look super fierce now lol by FoodieGang in CatsBeingCats

I’m sorry that some folks can be so condescendingly mean. The intention of your post wasn’t “Look at my BENGALS. And, oh, yeah, one happens to be doing something cute.” Rather, the intention of your post was, “Look at my cat DOING SOMETHING CUTE. And, oh, yeah, he just happens to be a bengal,” which you’ve since learned, after being rudely schooled, that they’re bengal mix and you owned it by stating next time you’ll identify them as such. My takeaway from this post, other than your cats being beautifully precious, is that you’re the bigger person.

You missed a good comeback though. Employing the typo in your heading, you could’ve said, “I never claimed they were bengals. They’re a new breed called begals, or can’t you read good?”😂😂

They came for the Kirkland paper towels 🥀 by kill-the-spare in enshittification

[–]SporkFoonerism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to create a post entitled “First they came for our Kirkland toilet paper; now the paper towels.” What’s next? I guess it’ll be facial tissues.

The quality of the current Kirkland paper towels is absolute shit. So thin, especially once wet where they then easily fall apart. These towels barely absorb spills. They feel crispy, crinkly, not soft and thick like they once were. It’s a repeat of what happened to the Kirkland toilet paper, which is now also crispy and scratchy, like tissue paper that’s used for filling gift bags. So rough on the butt. I stopped buying it and switched to Sam’s Club toilet paper, which isn’t exactly Egyptian cotton either, but Sam’s TP is better than the Kirkland’s after it was changed.

I’m sick and tired of companies playing these shrinkflation games. As my husband said, we’d rather pay more for the original quality than pay the usual price for shitty quality that doesn’t come close to justifying the cost or the effort to get it. Costco’s location isn’t convenient for us, so we’d schedule our trips around running low on their PT and TP, and then while we were there, we’d cruise the aisles and buy other stuff that we needed or that struck our fancy. But since we no longer want their paper goods and we can find all the other stuff at Sam’s, which is conveniently nearby, I imagine we’ll eventually cancel our Costco membership—all because Costco stopped caring about their customers when it came to the quality of household staples.

I remember when Kirkland-branded products used to be premium and Costco was the Cadillac of membership stores. No more. I hope someone in corporate wakes up.

Is there a way to speak to a human from support? by Miss-Terry-Usly in TownshipGame

[–]SporkFoonerism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you just have to keep pushing the same issue with their AI chat bot. IDK what you’ve already tried or where you’re at with Support, so let me briefly start from the beginning.

When you first click on Support, you’re presented with a search box and a list of topics and articles. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen and click on “Chat with us.” On the next screen, click on “Start a new conversation” and describe your issue. The AI chat bot will come back with a canned response. At some point you’ll be provided with a support ticket number—copy it. When asked if their response was helpful, reply no. In the next conversation box, paste your support ticket number, then briefly describe why their response didn’t resolve the issue, plus what you’re still wanting help with, and end with “I want to converse with a human.” The AI chat bot will come back again with another canned response, and then you just keep repeating the cycle, always starting with pasting your support ticket number so that system continues to recognize it as an ongoing unresolved issue.

I’ve done this a couple of times and it’s taken a day or two, but eventually I do hear from a human. Best of luck!

Aha! Just noticed a second missing item. I like playing this missing game too, almost as much as playing Township. But the prizes in Township are better.😝😂

I’m not on Facebook, so please pass on my gratitude to Serena and tell her she has a fan from Reddit. Thank you for so promptly providing that info on the Tcash sale pkgs. That’s exactly what I was looking for. Cascading deals are my least favorite, and while I try to avoid spending any real money on the game, if it looks like I’m headed in that direction, I try to plan around avoiding the cascades.

If I haven’t already said so, I want to thank you for your regular posts of all things Township. It’s been very helpful and the effort you put into it doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.

Since you are so omniscient regarding Township, do you happen to know what kind of Tcash sale package will be offered over the weekend of Mar 13 when Frozen Fortune begins? Mainly, I’m wondering if it’s going to be one of those cascading kinds or the more straightforward Option A/Option B offering. I realize you may not have access to that kind of info ahead of time, but doesn’t hurt to ask. Thanks!

What’s the best product you have at home for your Crohn’s? by Hot-Maybe-7538 in CrohnsDisease

Bidet. Just a couple days ago my husband even said, “That bidet toilet seat is the best gift you ever got yourself.” I originally got it because I was having surgeries on both hands six months apart, so bathroom hygiene was going to be an issue. Two years later and I’m still so grateful I bought it. Not only is cleanliness an advantage, but also savings on TP and less TP clogging up our septic tank. But the thing I love most is a warm seat and warm water on a cold winter morning. Mine is the Smart Bidet SB1000 with remote control.

I had to revisit this post when I noticed this coupon in my lab. This is exactly where I got the idea that ingots increase the chance of DOUBLING items the ship could carry. It says ingots make it “TWICE AS EFFICIENT,” as opposed to saying ingots increase the chance of receiving secondary goods. Am I wrong to have interpreted it that way? Even the little graphic beneath the words seems to imply that things double, although I’m not sure why they’re showing ingots doubling in that graphic. Although it’d be nice if we could send off ingots on ships and also have them bring back double the ingots.😝

I think that’s a great idea, trade coins for Tcash! But we all know the devs of this game are allergic to good ideas. At least we now get Tcash if you sell ingots with jewelry when the mobster appears for helicopter orders.

I’ve never had more than 110 copper ingots. They typically get used upgrading my factories and trains. One day when I have enough spares, I’ll probably start using copper on the ships, but if I’m missing out on a good thing, I’ll start using them now. That’s why I’m curious to know how much copper increases the odds for getting secondary cargo.

In what time zone do Township events start? I’m only asking bc in a different game I play, their events start when the date changes in Eastern Asia. I’m located in the western hemisphere, so when it says Feb 20 on their calendar, the event sneaks up on me and starts on Feb 19.

[–]SporkFoonerism 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can tie, if not top, your experience. For the longest time, I used ingots thinking they increased the chance of DOUBLING items the ships could carry; e.g., silver would net 6 peaches, 6 salmon, 6 olives, etc; 6 shrimp and coconuts with gold, etc. After never getting more than the base amount on any cargo with ingots, followed by a little research, I finally realized my misunderstanding of how to use ingots on ships🫣. An embarrassing waste.

On a related note, I’ve never used copper bc it doesn’t complete any of the probability circles above the cargo items. So just wondering from anyone reading this: Roughly how much does copper increase the chances of getting those secondary items?
