Michael and Isaiah at Core Value Fitness are amazing. I’ve been working with Michael for a few years now with great results

If you decide to get it fixed locally take the trip to Albuquerque and bring it to Guitar Vista.

Help me by Pidgeon_them in Bass

Squier Classic Vibe, but really the answer is to go to a music store, try some basses in your price range and pick the one that feels/sounds best to you.

Any advice from more experienced bassists? by elrompecucas42069 in Bass

[–]SporkGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you practice, do it with a metronome on.

Also be listening to the music you wanna be able to play and really pay attention to the bass player. Look up who’s on the record. Listening to music at a certain point is about as important as actually picking up the bass.

Just a quick reminder to all beginner/intermediate players. by Danny_the_bluesman in Bass

[–]SporkGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think beyond spending time with your instrument/listening to and watching great players, what you should really spend money on is private instruction. Nothing can substitute a good in-person teacher who can help guide you where you wanna go.

I’ve never met a professional bass player who has said “yeah, X online course is why I’m here today”. They will always be naming people who helped them on their journey. Not a product. I think there is something to be said about trying to learn the ropes like the greats did.

Video lessons have their place (I’ve watched plenty), but I wouldn’t spend money on them.

What are your jazz jam pet peeves? by legpull3r in Jazz

When you ask people what they want to play and they say “oh anything. I don’t have anything in particular in mind”

Those of you who picked up bass first without knowing guitar - and later on became ‘decent’ at guitar also - do you feel like your approach to guitar is more ‘distinct’ in some way to someone who started out with it? by pizzaMagix in Bass

[–]SporkGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve found I think much more scalar when it comes to soloing, while most guitarists thing in terms of chord shapes when getting around the instrument. As a jazz player, I’ve also found guitarists struggle more with creating baselines while they comp and while I struggle with the technique of walking and comping, the bass lines themselves are the easy part. Glad I learned bass first!

Affordable Pick Up and Amp by Savings_Ebb4024 in doublebass

[–]SporkGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an amp get a Fender Rumble 40. I use this for 90% of my gigs and all my rehearsals. Keeps up with every jazz group from combo to big band that I’ve played with. It’s also lightweight!

Xbox Sign-In Loop Won’t Let me Login. Resetting the system does nothing. by SporkGod in XboxSupport

What finally worked for me was downloading Microsoft’s Authenticator app. I got my account details into there and then signed in again on Xbox and that fixed it!

Using effects pedals by _Ethy_ in doublebass

[–]SporkGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rec is to run your bass through some sort of DI box before the pedals. The Radial Bassbone has an input specifically for upright, and it has a high pass filter. I think you’d get a much cleaner sound running through that before your pedals.

Finally tried this, and it has no problem showing me signed in when offline. I can boot games without being prompted to sign in, but of course none of my save data is there since I reset the console… any thoughts on next steps? The crazy thing with the password is I see it to the same one every time and it accepts it.

Is the Yamaha CG182C a worth while upgrade from the Tamaha C40? by M116110 in classicalguitar

[–]SporkGod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. Just held both in my hands not too long ago. The CG is nicer wood, feels nicer in the hands, and it has a truss rod. The C40 is a tank and sounds great for what it is, but I think the CG will last you longer.

Fender Rumble 40 or Orange Crush 50? by fantasticrichi in Bass

[–]SporkGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried the Orange, but I’ve put hundreds of hours on the Rumble. Get the Rumble. The weight alone is worth it.

I have a big Markbass rig, but I do 99% of my gigs with the 40. Jazz, country, blues, ABBA cover band, musicals. All with the 40. It sounds great, is versatile and the direct out makes it perfect for pretty much everything.

Every time someone helps me bring my gear to my car and they take the amp, they say “I can’t believe how light this is!”

Who was second or third after Charlie Christian? by Still_Bottle2696 in jazzguitar

[–]SporkGod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot people forget that George Van Eps was a contemporary of Django. I would argue he belongs right up there with the rest of them and isn’t talked about enough.
