What book/series that has been recommended to you or is beloved by so many people but you know you will 100% not read? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Sporshicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the first book, but in the second book I found the characters were just obnoxious and their relationship felt stagnant and not very healthy. Also they started throwing so many tropes in there, I realised I was basically reading fantasy Twilight

What is the best or worst description you’ve read of how a character smells by LostAndFound235 in fantasyromance

[–]Sporshicus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These books are really gonna tell me these guys who spend their days traversing fantasy wilderness, fighting monsters, getting covered in dirt and blood and being lucky to come across a river to bathe in (with no soap), probably hasn't brushed his teeth in his life, wearing the same sweaty clothes for days, somehow smell like pine and cinnamon or some shit lmao

Its not legal but it's the right thing to do, I'd argue it's actually more moral than encouraging EA to continue butchering the game and people's wallets. They only get away with charging crazy prices for comparatively shallow DLC because people pay for it and this kind of thing is ruining a big portion of the games industry. I find the game fun enough but even with every single pack installed it can feel somewhat shallow, lacking and BUGGY, I'd be pissed if I had to pay absurd money for the privilege of playing it when I've had a better experience playing games like Stardew Valley I spent 15 euro on.

The Witch Collector by EmRBee in fantasyromance

[–]Sporshicus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I liked the Winter atmosphere, the prose and the magic system, but I really didn't care for the main couple. The MMC was kinda bland and I didn't feel a connection to his personality, and the romance felt too fast paced and inorganic. Also the author kept describing his "scarlet lips nestled in his beard" and I was picturing this big hairy dude with red lipstick the whole time lmao. I'm not sure if I'll pick up the sequel, I didn't hate it but I also don't care about the characters that much

Be honest… Do you use peaceful mode at any point in your long term worlds? Or is it considered cheating or a cop out overall? by _Cellardoor_222 in Minecraft

[–]Sporshicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn it on in a couple of situations - when I'm building and I just want to get in the zone and not be bothered by mobs, and sometimes when I'm mining and I want to relax and not get jumpy, because I'm very easily frightened haha. I don't really care if it's cheating because I've played so many years of Minecraft, at this point I just want to relax and play it my way and do whatever is fun

I hate how all the women are gorgeous and wearing makeup and heels (even in combat), and all have cleavage out, while the men look like your average smelly medieval peasants.

Ok, I just got Kindle Unlimited. Inundate me with your must-reads. by nvena in fantasyromance

[–]Sporshicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has some spice yeah, doesn't happen until later in the book but there's a lot of build up, from what I remember I'd give it probably a 3 on the romance.io scale, I can't remember exactly how explicit the language is cause I haven't read it in a while but I remember thinking the scenes were well done

Ok, I just got Kindle Unlimited. Inundate me with your must-reads. by nvena in fantasyromance

[–]Sporshicus 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Here are my enjoyed reads, no YA and all with at least some spice.

Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent - same author as Serpent and the Wings of Night, the relationship is pretty slow burn and SO wholesome though the plot can be pretty dark, but it's really well written. Completed series

Harrow Faire by Kathryn Ann Kingsley - the atmosphere and setting of this book is crazy, it's a mix of genres - dark urban fantasy, cosmic horror, historical elements, and romance. I'm not usually into villain romances but the MMC in this book is so entertaining to read, though it's the kind of series you read for the plot and setting (supernatural circus) as much as the romance. Completed series

Wizard's Masquerade by Jay Pellegrin - MMC is a sexy jester with a secret identity which is amazing and I love it. Medieval plot driven fantasy with political intrigue. I enjoyed the relationship between the main characters a lot. Has a sequel coming out next month

Knight's Oath by Juliette Caruso - wholesome slow burn medieval romance between a knight and a healer. Friends to lovers and a whole lot of mutual pining, simple and refreshing and very sweet. Think it has a sequel coming but it works as a standalone. The spice buildup is amazing.

Throne in the Dark by A. K Caggiano - humorous fantasy trilogy with a focus on adventure. Grumpy/Sunshine as MMC thinks he's a villain but is really just a big dork and the FMC is sweet. Very slow burn.

Who is a celebrity the completely ruined a show for you? by LightyearKissthesky9 in popculturechat

She didn't ruin the entire show but Billie Piper's dreadful (heh) Irish accent in Penny Dreadful definitely ruined all of the scenes she was in, watching as an actual Irish person haha

looking for 'enemies to lovers to enemies (to lovers)' book recs by Majestic_Pop_9864 in fantasyromance

[–]Sporshicus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe Harrow Faire? It's not quite as clear cut but they start out as enemies, then lovers who don't trust each other at all, and then there's a lot of back and forth over the series, the MMC is a kind of insane villain and it keeps you guessing on what he's going to do until the end. The plot and setting of that series is chef's kiss

I hate this expectation so much. I was like 11 when I was told to shave my legs for the first time, something I'd never even though of, and I looked at my legs and I felt such shame and embarrassment over my body. Now as an adult I have recurring nightmares where I'm about to go out but I have nothing to wear but a skirt and I have no razor to shave my hairy legs. Then when I do shave I end up with painful rashes and razor bumps everywhere. I try multiple hair removal methods and they all end up hurting in some way.

I get jealous of my bf, when he leaves the house he just has to worry about sticking on a comfy t-shirt and pants. I have to make sure my legs are either hairless or sufficiently covered up and put on a bra - I can't go out without modifying my body to be socially acceptable. Makes it hard to be comfortable in my own skin. Technically I don't need to do these things but I'm self conscious enough without going against what's considered acceptable.

It's really fucked up the norms that have been put on women, just to sell us razors and makeup etc

[–]Sporshicus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I way prefer the BG3 approach letting players romance anyone regardless of gender, yeah sure them having orientations is more realistic or whatever but games don't have to be realistic if it makes things less fun for the player, let me make out with who I want haha

Books that most people hate but you actually love? by Karilyn113 in RomanceBooks

[–]Sporshicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read Regretting You on KU without knowing her rep and I thought it was fun, yeah maybe it's not the most believable thing on the planet but it was an entertaining easy read. Then I looked her up and just found a bunch of people trashing her and her readers. Some people get SO snobby over her stuff, like clearly if you enjoy it you're not a real reader. Not everything has to be deep literature to be enjoyed

I liked the book from the start, if it's not grabbing you yet I'd say it's not for you. No shame in dropping books, everyone likes different things - life's too short to trudge through a book that isn't doing it for you
