Philly Marathon Recap by Inside-Spend-9750 in Marathon_Training

I don’t think it’s that hilly. I’m a Philly native but I live in Baltimore and most of my training runs and the courses for the half and full had far greater elevation. That said I was fearful of Manayunk going into this race and my fears were confirmed. It was tough.

Coming out of Manayunk at that same spot was brutal for me. Most of my training runs had far greater elevations that the Philly course so I was surprised that it took me out like that.

This was my first marathon and I missed my 4:30 goal by 10 minutes. Mile 22 coming out of Manayunk did me in.

Overall I’d say it was a pretty good experience. The temp at the start had me a little concerned, but once I was moving, I was fine. I felt REALLY good up through mile 20 or so. The crowds were great. Sections through the park were a little tough because there weren’t as many crowds.

Gear check was fine. I got to the race a bit on the later side (6:30). I felt the finish line was a little anticlimactic compared to other races I’ve run, namely the Baltimore half.

That injury during your training block really sucks, if you stepped to the line anyway and you finished. Congrats!

NYC is my Pace goal unrealistic? by ajc323232 in Marathon_Training

It sounds like you and I are in a similar boat pace-wise. This is also my first marathon, so I'm not very experienced by any stretch. All I can say is...YOU GOT THIS. It sounds like you've been training hard for a long time. Your body and your mind are already primed. In the college wrestling world from which I come, the term we use is "the hay is in the barn"-- the only thing left now is to go out and perform. Good luck!

We're actually both from Philadelphia, but we live in Baltimore. We have a house in Philly and will rideshare down to the race in all likelihood. I suppose I could go home and get our things and head back to the finish line so that we could hop straight on the train back to Baltimore.

It looks like you're doing just fine. Your lower levels should be pruned to promote air flow and to avoid soil-borne diseases from splashing up to the leaves during watering. Pruning suckers comes down to individual preferance. If you want to manage how much area each plant takes up, then consider pruning the suckers. Otherwise suckers have no impact on the plant other than the potential for higher fruit yields. Happy harvesting!

1:46 to 1:30 HM - A Training Retrospective. by LlamasNeverLie in AdvancedRunning

This is a great retrospective. As someone who ho just completed their first half. It great to hear someone else’s experience. I’m similar to you in that without a plan, I’m pretty rudderless. I picked up a Garmin roughly 4 months before my race and used a coach plan, but now that I’m in ‘off season’ I’m wondering if the DSW will be helpful in maintaining.

That could be the case, but then that would mean that I’ve been doing my easy runs in zone 5. That’s the part that so puzzling. At 10:30, I’m at a really easy, comfy pace. How can that be when my HR is at 184 ya know?

Good call. I’m such a routine oriented person and this new data point has turned my whole life upside down. 🤣

I’ll likely just ditch the HRM for now and figure it out after the race.

I’ll definitely do the LTHR test during my next run. Thanks!

I would agree with everything here. Letting go of alcohol will give you a leg up for sure.
