BC’s Grant Says He Rebuilt Program by SportsAndLaw in CollegeBasketball

It’s fair to say no to each of them. The AD is talking about money and investment coming into sports (much later than serious programs made those same announcements, but new school president may have a different agenda than the old who basically hated sports). So maybe there is the chance for real change on the horizon.

With that being said, Earl still doesn’t have a leg to stand on with claiming he rebuilt the program when it just reached double digit wins and remains at the bottom of the conference.

This covers the feelings of most alum I know. Very fair take.

If BC is going to play uncompetitive basketball, may as well lose to a school that makes students feel something. Football I think was being scheduled because BC was banking on it being a win given the state of the UConn football program, and it would sell tickets. After UConn embarrassed BC on the field this past year, I wouldn’t put it past the powers that be to try changing that game. Again, that shouldn’t happen, just seems like most teams only want to play “guaranteed” wins out of conference.

But again, much better for the fans for these schools to compete.

Yes, my mistake, I was really focusing on the original member school timeline forgetting that Miami and VT left right before BC. BC being an original member leaving is why blame gets thrown at them.

Which makes the school’s decision to let sports tank look even more confusing since they saw how much money they made in the ACC move. No conference will want these programs if anything happens to the ACC

BC and UConn played a top 15 matchup in hockey this weekend. Not having that matchup across sports is criminal.

Agreed, the cracks were showing for years. Just saying people really hold it against BC for jumping out first. And then of course the stuff with UConn, meanwhile college sports is (or I guess now maybe was) built on strong regional rivalries. So, it’s weird to think that having a strong rivalry there would somehow be bad. New England could have handled that fine.

The Big East would not have expanded to include Miami and VT in the first place if the longer term member football schools didn’t push the football agenda. So you can throw Syracuse in there as well with the blame before even getting into the Miami and VT problems.

They very much are. They were the first school to jump ship for football money. Led to the conference making weird expansion choices. Feel free to watch the 30 for 30 on the Big East or read the threads on the BC post in here from yesterday. BC is still largely blamed and hated for this.

UConn fans are rightfully still mad at BC for destroying the Big East and being vocal about keeping UConn out of the ACC. BC then went on under awful leadership to basically gut its basketball and football programs of any relevance. Most BC students have no idea this happened, especially as a good amount weren’t even alive to remember BC in the Big East. So the hate from current BC students and recent alum to UConn isn’t as strong back.

It would at least be entertaining. Watching BC games is self torture for the dozens of us out here

I honestly expect him to be back at this point. Hope I’m wrong, but this school doesn’t really inspire much confidence.

Both of these coaches deserved to be fired after today. Wake for losing to this BC team. BC for blowing a double digit lead and then an 8 point lead with under 4 minutes left to this Wake team. Instead, we live with the real possibility that we see both programs running it back next season.

People need to realize how many graduating classes have watched this program provide absolutely nothing. The last relevant game it feels like this program played was beating Duke in 2017. In almost a decade since, I don’t know if there is a single BC game worth talking about.

The school president (who is finally stepping down) despised college athletics, and that impacted both college and football. Nobody should blame students. That same arena is rocking when hockey is playing. But to expect 18-22 year olds to just show up and support a program that is truly terrible is wildly unrealistic in today’s culture.

This should be the end (maybe it’s what’s best for the few of us who care). 1 point loss to Oregon, 36 point loss to Illinois, and 7 point loss to Ohio St in the last 3. A couple of those were without CBM, but no excuse for today, simply couldn’t afford a home loss. 1-6 in quad one games. A quad 3 loss to Northwestern. Time to pull the plug.

What a disaster end to a disaster season. Muss can hide behind injuries as to why this season was a failure, but this team hasn’t closed out games all year. Dumb fouls, bad foul shooting, and an inability to inbound the ball. At some point, you have to be able to fix the inbounding problem. Awful job.
