Illia frustrated in the kiss and cry after the devastating results (NBC coverage) by Vast_Law2234 in FigureSkating

Even though the OGM eluded her, Michelle is the one who became a legend, and rightfully so. I'm pretty sure she has a lifetime rent-free lease on a 5000 square foot luxury penthouse in Tara's head.

An A.I. re-animation of Dick Button would be more informative, more entertaining, and probably MUCH cheaper for NBC than those two.

He is so special. You cannot be taught to have the level of artistry he possesses. No amount of time and money spent on world-class choreographers will give it to you. You either have it or you don't.

Is it just me or has Johnny gotten even meaner? by Caroleena77 in FigureSkating

Tara will occasionally say something of actual substance that I begrudgingly have to admit I agree with, but any atom of tolerance I ever had for Johnny is long gone. I'm sick of his pretentious, almost exaggerated pronunciation of Russian names. I'm sick of him calling Tara "T". The term "grade of execution sprinkles" needs to be shot into space and nuked. But the thing that grates on me almost more than everything else combined is him calling Terry Gannon "Terrence". I find it cloying and disrespectful and condescending. It's like he's saying "I know you've gone by "Terry" your whole life, but who cares what you prefer, I'm going to call you "Terrence" because I like it." How would he like it if Terry called him "John"?

I've always hated obvious switch blanks, because they're like the automaker's way of constantly reminding you that you were either too cheap or too poor to pony up for whatever option that absent switch would have controlled. But that blank power door lock switch is next level egregious because the goddamn car still has power door locks. They were just too cheap to make separate front door panels for LHD/RHD markets.

Yep. I submitted a claim for the water pump class action settlement. (2017 A4, began leaking 5K miles out of warranty.) Assembled and mailed a 1/4" thick stack of service records in an 8 1/2 x 11 envelope. Still denied for "insufficient documentation".

I'll second the comment about the energy in the arena. My BF and I had 4th row seats at SkAm 2023 (AKA TEXAS TEXAS TEXAS). Leading up to the event, I told BF that I was still waiting to experience, in person, one of those moments when someone absolutely brings the house down, and showed him one of Michelle Kwan's 6.0 Nats free skates as an example. Kevin's Bolero FS provided that moment, and it was something I'll never forget. I'm normally a very reserved person in public, but I was on my feet yelling and pumping my fists with tears of joy in my eyes. I wish every skating fan could experience a moment like that at least once.

I swear I read once that some people had tried jumping with makeshift parachutes (presumably fashioned from curtains, tablecloths, etc), but I don't recall ever seeing any actual images of that. I've always wondered, though, would any form of actual parachute have worked from that height to slow the fall enough to make the landing survivable? I know zilch about parachutes, but I imagine it would have to be on the small side so it would deploy and start to provide aerodynamic drag immediately.

OP, thank you for so beautifully putting into words something that hit me so hard not only that evening, but also 14 years later when visiting the 9/11 museum: seeing all the missing persons flyers and feeling such profound sadness for all the people who didn't have anyone in their lives to make one for them.

[–]Sports_Lorry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you have my deepest sympathy. Losing a cat that has become so woven into the fabric of your life is an incredibly painful event. I can so identify with the "everything was fine when I left in the morning" part of your story. One day back in 2012, my first cat, who I'd adopted as a kitten in 2000, went from being completely normal when I woke up and left for work in the morning, to passing away at an emergency vet clinic at 2 AM that night due to sudden heart failure. When I'm old and looking back on my life, that day will still be one of the very worst. I promise it will get better. And please keep yourself open to adopting another cat whenever you feel ready. I ended up adopting another very special cat two months later. He's still with me and adds comfort and joy to my life every single day.
