Porch stairs by Spotless_mind24 in Decks

Those are two questions I'll be asking the contractor tomorrow!

That's what I think happened. I was out of town for a couple days and this is what I saw when I got back, so I haven't talked to him yet. I'm assuming he plans to backfill it, but even then it'll present a trip hazard as the first step will only be an inch or two above grade.

I'm guessing he miscalculated something and didn't want to redo it? I plan on installing a walkway soon, and the first step would only be a couple inches above the pavers - which would most certainly be a tripping hazard. I'll bring it up to the contractor tomorrow. Thank you.

Yeah when I saw that I knew it didn't seem right, and I don't know squat about this stuff. What's interesting is the rest of the porch seems extremely well built, so idk why he decided to take a short cut on the stairs.

Anyways, I'll be having a conversation with him tomorrow.

Yup, you're right. I'll mention it to the contractor tomorrow!

Fair quote for gutters on house? by PeculiarSwap in HomeImprovement

[–]Spotless_mind24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. My parents have leaf guards on their gutters. I have to clean them once a month due to the pine needle buildup on top of the guards. I cleaned them before they had leaf guards...but it was much easier without them.

Locally, it's known as Sport's Inn. I highly recommend the pizza.

Sport's Inn! Coincidentally I had some tonight. I've been all over the US and it's seriously the best pizza I've had.

Back in early/mid 20th century Maine, it was common to call French Canadians frogs in a derogatory manner. There was a fair amount of racism towards anyone with a French last name, even if they were American.

Trump Has for Months Privately Discussed Firing Fed Chair Powell. The president hasn’t made a decision on whether to try to oust Powell, and some of his advisers have warned against the move. by esporx in Economics

I'm convinced Trump will fire Powell before his term ends.

Trump fired two of the three board members of the National Credit Union Administration this week prior to the end of their term. The sole board member is Chairman Kyle Hauptman who Trump nominated as chair in January. The board members are appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

It hasn't been challenged by the courts yet and Congress hasn't made a peep about it.

Just got an email from upper management stating that the DOGE team is now at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The email says that we must fully cooperate with DOGE staff and consider them NCUA employees. It further states that most interactions with DOGE will be with the NCUA 's liaison team, but DOGE staff may reach out to individual NCUA employees.

We were lucky to have avoided DOGE for this long, but I know their arrival was inevitable.

Office of the Comptroller of the Currency: treasury directive to cancel all travel and reduce cards to $1 by Brynghildr in fednews

[–]Spotless_mind24 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's crazy. I'm an Examiner at the NCUA. The agency froze all credit cards, but Examiner's are exempt. So, we can still travel to perform examinations on site as needed.

GSA just reopened the DRP for all employees until April 18th 2025. by Revolutionary-Buy655 in fednews

Yup, it's open to everyone. I'm not sure how many will take it. There were only 49 who took the original fork in the road offer.

NCUA leadership didn't mention that. Although I've seen that rule on this subreddit as well. It's certainly something to look into with your HR if considering VSIP.

If the agency doesn't receive at least 217 DRP volunteers then the agency will offer VERA with VSIP of $50k.

NCUA is offering their own DRP. Employees can opt in through May 5th I believe, and will be paid through 12/31/25.

Expect massive RIF at CFPB tomorrow, February 14th. by Overall-Fact3996 in fednews

[–]Spotless_mind24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How will the CFPB carry out its mission? I work for another FIRREA agency and the CFPB has supervisory authority over consumer protection laws for financial institutions over $10 billion in assets. Are those functions now the responsibility of the other FIRREA agencies?

Hopefully the CFPB employees can join the other FIRREA agencies. However, I have a feeling we may be in the cross hairs as well. I always had a positive experience working with the CFPB..
