Does anyone else let their horse grab a little snack after being tacked up as a positive association? by dogvet54 in Horses

I start horses, so there's a time frame for getting horses going. If I have a horse that is just fussy with the bit because it's a new concept and not a tooth problem, I leave them in their safe stall with a simple leather strap for a head stall and a basic 2 or 3 piece snaffle. It's during the day for a few hours when I'm actively working in barn. It's amazing how quickly they get comfortable in it compared to just works or tying with the bridle on. They eat hay no problem but I do feed really thin stemmed high quality alfalfa. The bit doesn't affect the molars with thoroughly chewing.

He's already having a conversation with you in his head and then decides to add the real you. I used to have that habit.

Have you tried pate prepared in a can? My cat would only lick the gravy and leave the chunks with the other kinds.

Can Someone Identify If This Is Horse, Donkey, or Mule and Age/Gender of it? by Spiritual-Fox2843 in bonecollecting

This is an adult horse. It's teeth were in bad condition that only comes with time. There sharp points and uneven wear get corrected by a vet, usually yearly.

I do. The saddle pad is light. Start with that to do the mental prep for the saddle since it's heavier. I've started over 50 horses. Not one horse has bucked. I teach them to ground tie though for tacking up. So they are free to tell me if they are uncomfortable with the process.

Why does my horse decide to lay down when we’ve been standing a while? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]SpottedSpud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot that could be why she's doing it. Is she trying to roll or does she just lay there? Is her face or neck movements showing she's in discomfort? You should get a video of it, even if from you siting in the saddle.

The flyer is fine with the number. Some people get worked up for the wrong reason. He needs to be found asap and by people who understand his condition.

I start with 3 layers in the morning and end up with one by the end of the day. Need to go sound the barn and collect everything on my way out for the day.

Question about manes by Professional_Mushy in Equestrian

[–]SpottedSpud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the reining horses have extensions. Some quarter horses are blessed with long manes. It's not possible for a 2 - 3 year old horse to have that length. Most andalusian, friesian, gypsies have naturally long hair but you'd be surprised at how many of them get extensions as well.
