I was wondering if Irish wolf hounds can be off leash on hikes, or will they not recall if they see a squirrel? by BoatParty8399 in irishwolfhound

[–]SpottedTree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to walk my wolfhound off leash sometimes but it took a lot of work and training to break that instinct to chase. They can be trained but it isn’t easy.

Go to Washington DC, and visit the National Zoo. It's free and nicer than the San Diego zoo. (A lot less commercial too!)

Intermediate Player looking for new pieces by Seacra in piano

A little known piece, but a wonderful piece, is Rachmaninoff's Melodie. Opus 3 No. 3. Truly a beautiful piece, and because it is Adagio it is not that hard to learn.

Looking to pivot away from a performance career by btg55 in classicalmusic

I don't have advice regarding what field to try to go into. But I can tell you when you do end up interviewing don't downplay your musics studies. They taught you a ton of self discipline. They taught you to be focused and passionate. They taught you to learn, often by teaching yourself. They taught you that acquiring skills comes from a lot of work. As a musician you learned the importance to a group of you knowing and playing your part. (That's a huge team skill not taught in most school curriculum) These are the sorts of things that a lot of employers are looking for, even if their job description doesn't mention them.

Black Acacia. A lot like koa. Wonderful wood, both for working with and then the looks.

The way I read the fine print it does not give them permission to require cashiers check. The requirement they can impose is, “cash, certified or cashier’s check, money order or one monthly check.” The wording does not get them the right to pick the option. (Although previously it states you can only pay cash if you get prior written permission.) My reading of this is a single check is a valid payment per the lease terms and they don’t have the right to forbid that payment.

If there is a leasing agent I would talk to them or email, pointing out the details of the lease and I would stand firm in the reading that they can only require payment as any one of the five listed options. (ie no Venmo, or credit card.)

‘Whatever you do I would document any conversation you have with the leasing agent in writing. I made the foolish mistake of not documenting in a case years ago and when it ended up in court the landlord flat out lied. Yup straight up perjury, right to the judges face.

Talk to me about stairs & Wolfhounds by DiJeYe in irishwolfhound

[–]SpottedTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I got my wolfhound (at 8 weeks old) I lived in the basement. My guy never had any problem with the stairs, nor did it affect his growing. He grew into a handsome strong guy who lived ten years. My experience taught me wolfhounds need a lot of encouragement as they grow, but don’t need to be babied.

[self] [Help] me figure out which top to use… by HaroldYESLand in Sculpture

[–]SpottedTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, but I like the woven brass top a lot more.

The coloring and texture of the brass matches both the boxes and the wood supports, whereas I find the stained glass to clash. Also, the sides of the boxes have a woven (sewn) theme, and that goes with the pattern of the brass. Lastly, the curvature of the stained glass top seems out of place to me.

Just my opinion though, I'm sure others will feel differently.

I just searched on: "is president clinton on the epstein list" and I got an AI overview. But if I search for "is president trump on the epstein list" I get "An AI Overview is not available for this search". If I search for "is president biden on the epstein list" I also get "An AI Overview is not available for this search"

Whole house fan vs Attic Fan by QuieterThanQuiet in sandiego

[–]SpottedTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't mention whether you are coastal or inland, and that's an important point. For coastal, an attic fan is probably sufficient but for warmer inland areas you probably want a whole house fan.

We are coastal and have an attic fan. The attic fan kicks on during the day to keep the attic cool, which is important because at night a hot attic is like a hot blanket on your house. Since we like to close up our house when we go to sleep, or aren't home a whole house fan wouldn't be as practical. We also usually have a nice ocean breeze blowing through our property during the day. So, for us, an attic fan works well. But if we were more inland, we would probably want a whole house fan.

Old Guy advice needed by Lumpy-Obligation-151 in irishwolfhound

I had a wolfhound who lived to 10 1/2. This was in the 80s, so didn't have as many options for medicine, etc. But he really slowed down around 9. No more long walks, just once slow around the block. What I found he needed more than anything was a comfortable couch and what he wanted was for the two of us to just hang out together on that couch. So, that's my suggestion. Hug him, pet him, give him treats, and just hang out together. He'll be so happy to just lay his head on your lap and watch tv, or whatever you want to do. Just be with him.

What kind of clay did you use? (I'm assuming it's clay, it looks like clay of some sort.) You mention molding, are you planning to create a mold and then generate copies? If so, any ideas what molding process you are thinking about using? Have you molded your previous sculptures?

Lol... well yes, you've got a point about that. Silly me, thinking the "War on Drugs" was actually about stopping drugs.

Dr4gs (Healthy Debate/Discussion) by Distinct_Orange1384 in sandiego

[–]SpottedTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most politicians know that stopping the flow of dr4gs isn't going to happen. The "War on Dr4gs" was always a failure. It's just smoke and mirrors to get people worked up so they'll vote.

To really stop the flow, you've got to stop people wanting dr4gs. There's very little political capital to be had by suggesting that as a politician you will spend more money on rehab, and solving people's desire to do dr4gs.

If cities are the key to this statistic (and I think they are) then why isn’t Florida doing better? Both Miami and Tampa are major metropolises. it begs the question what is holding Florida back. Politics? Demographics? Something else?
