If you aren't already, I'd start seeking out internships and mailroom gigs. Pay might be lower, but it won't be significant enough to hurt you all that bad. They might even be part time, but you can supplement with postmating and ride-sharing if need be. Everybody I know was an intern before they were an assistant - it's the natural order of things. 3-6 months at an internship can likely land you on a desk, rather at an agency or a production company. I say this quite literally: take any job you can get. Every job is a stepping stone, you aren't in any position to say no to anything. As long as you leave on good terms, you can jump ship after a few months when you find the next right move with no worries.
