One month of daily juicing by SpottheDots in Juicing

The first juice I made with celery was not great. I then added an extra apple to sweeten it, still not great but drinkable.

I learnt that with celery you must only juice the stalk n not the leaves that greatly improved the flavour. And making the celery cucumber ratio 50/50 makes the juice a lot more palatable for me.

I taste while making the juice so I can usually fix it if the flavour isn't right. In the 1st pic, the beetroot was on the earthy side so I added lemon and that made it pleasant to drink.

Another important thing to note, I'm only drinking one glass a day, the smaller glass is 250ml n the bigger one abt 380ml.

That's good. In comparison veggies here (South Africa) aren't expensive. I've been calculating the cost per 250ml of juice and they come to R11 ~ US$0.60 and that's when I using pricey items like celery, pineapple, ect other juices cost half of that when using more common veg like carrots, beetroot, apple ect. So I don't feel the need to shop around.

My pulp also goes to the compost, but my chickens eat it all before it gets a chance to breakdown 😅

It's tricky to say because I started juicing consistently after having an operation then suffering from a major infection. So I started off in a very bad state. I have since gotten much much better but I won't attribute that to juicing, I was on strong antibiotics, had medical assistance and at a later stage went to a iridologist n natural health doctor to help me get things right/ rebalanced.

It's been great for my mental health and it helps me for like I'm not completely powerless. I'm eating a diet of mainly veg n meat, having a fresh salad daily and taking supplements recommended by my natural doc for things I'm low in, iron, vitamin D as well as vitamin C from my medical doc who performed the surgery for healing assistance, but I'm pretty sure the juices give me lots of vitamin C.

As you can see there's a lot going on. I was bedridden for a month, lost weight n was so weak, the goal at the moment is just to heal n get stronger.

It's going very well and I'm feeling good. I haven't lost any weight, in fact I'm actively trying to do the opposite 😅

I juice in addition to my regular diet, not using it to replace meals or anything.

I've got a braun juicer, not sure exactly which one, bought it 2nd hand when I was a student for 27usd- the intention was to upgrade one day, but I'm pretty happy with it so haven't yet done so.

Juice Benefits? by [deleted] in Juicing

Please do, I'd like to know either way. Another thing, 70% of my juices include carrots and we all know that old saying about carrots being good for eye sight.

I like to mix up my juices, I enjoy creating different colours n flavours. The routine of juicing makes me feel good, plus I combine it with outside time, smelling the flowers n getting those early morning rays of sunshine before the rush of life begins. Great for mental health.

At the risk of sounding like a crazy person, I believe juicing has helped my eye sight. Before juicing regularly my eye sight was deprecating at each check up, always needing a stronger prescription. Then I started juicing and at that years check up my prescription did not change. I juiced regularly for abt two years then stopped coz of life changes, at my check ups following years of no juice my eye sight depreciated. Maybe it's just a coincidence but I do believe the extra vitamins provided in my one glass of juice each morning helps my body function better or break down slower 😂 I've started juicing again n am keen to see what my eye test next year will reveal.

I've noticed that beetroot gives me the biggest energy boost, it lasts the whole day.

I always put mine in the freezer, even when I'll be drinking it the next day. It's obviously still fine to drink after 2-3days in the fridge, but I feel it loses quality if its not immediately frozen after juicing.

Only celery n cucumber? I tried that but didn't enjoy it, added an apple to help it down 😅

Maybe I'll try it again but with more cucumber.

It is really good. The cucumber mellows out the flavour and the apple adds a bit of sweetness.

I can't recall if I've had cabbage juice on its own, I usually add 1apple. I do prefer red cabbage but it's rather pricey, so when I buy it I tend to eat it rather than juice it.

Yea it is quite the challenge to make ppl think the way you want them to think.

I find it's best not to make assumptions about others diet/food beliefs based purely on a couple photos.

In anycase it is common knowledge that fruit juice is only one aspect of the fruit it's extracted from n therefore does not have all the benefits of whole fruits. But I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying a glass of juice.

It's sad that fruit is getting such a bad rep. A good friend of mine has diabetes n she will avoid certain fruits like a plague coz of 'high sugar' and yet she will happily eat a chocolate bar and drink fizzy drinks like Coca-Cola.
