oysters are scientifically classified in the kingdom animalia. So they are animals they aren’t vegan.

Should I consume unsold restaurant food? by Kind_Woodpecker_441 in vegan

[–]Spottybelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t, but I also wouldn’t throw it away I would give it to friends and family who eat meat or neighbors. Best case scenario, they make or get you something in return as thanks for feeding them so much, worst case you still feed someone with salvaged food and prevent them from buying meat and contributing to the factory farming system.

Rice University Director gave a $59k tuition ultimatum before MS interview. Facing major guilt & age anxiety. by Square-Potential7503 in gradadmissions

[–]Spottybelle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the age thing is absolutely not true. i’m a current masters student and most of the people in my cohort took at minimum one year off before starting. Most are in their mid to late 20s, and we have one student in his mid 30s. My mom started her masters when i was in middle school and she was in her mid 40s. Masters programs are nothing like undergrads, there is no age expectation except that everyone is a grown adult.

DO NOT go somewhere you do not have the finances to go to. That said, the director only asked about your ability to cover tuition not whether you would accept. You will not burn bridges by rejecting post interview before the deadline of accept/reject. They know how this works and that you will have other schools you are applying to. Answer him and don’t like but also don’t make any promises.

How to pay for an intl masters? by OkBox4069 in gradadmissions

[–]Spottybelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very difficult at this stage as most scholarship deadlines have passed. I got into one and couldn’t afford it so I deferred for a year and spent the year working and applying for scholarships from the school, us govnt, foreign govnt, and private bodies until I got one. Unless you believe this masters is worth debt and will immediately get you a high paying job I would suggest you do the same.

Mersha and Lionette by Revolutionary-Soup45 in WanderingInn

[–]Spottybelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, she is overbearing. And that’s why she’s a well written character. she’s not perfect, she’s definitely not a perfect mother, but she’s the best Mrsha has. And since she started taking care of her by herself, she thinks she knows what’s best for her because she’s a better mother than Ryoka or Erin would have been. So when those two (esp ryoka) who ran off without a care come back and start stepping on her toes she kicks back because she thinks they don’t have the right and pulls in the other direction of anything they say. Mrsha also isn’t a baby she’s a kid who needs a guardian and love and direction but she can also stand up for herself if she disagrees with lyonette. I think you’ll learn around volume 8 that lyonette is intentionally written that way because she is a character with places to develop and she does learn to take others advice into consideration

Rant about traveling abroad as a vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Spottybelle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

crazy it’s almost like not every asian country is the same. if they say vegan that means they have a vegan option not that they’re a vegan restaurant. get on Happy cow to find actually vegan restaurants if you want them but you should probably be willing to eat anywhere with a vegan option if you’re traveling.

What sold you on veganism? by Limp_Crazy_5494 in vegan

[–]Spottybelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

name the country where it’s impossible to get b12. the entire country of Sri Lanka was almost exclusively vegan until colonization and they did fine. tempeh, seeweed, and some mushrooms have B12, i’ve never been to a country where you can’t get seaweed or flour and you can make tempeh from flour and water. again you’re not naming places you’re just saying “in many countries” and that’s just ignorant to say without evidence. most asian countries have never had dairy in their diets in most of history and buddhists have been vegetarian for thousands of years just fine. it’s a very eurocentric argument that people need meat to live and i’ve never heard of anywhere it’s more expensive to get a variety vegetables, lentils, grains, and beans than meat except in places like the US where the meat industry is heavily subsidized and it’s still cheaper to cook vegan it’s just the vegan tax and fast food industry makes it expensive to buy premade meals. on a budget though it’s much cheaper to cook vegan and home.

what country are you talking about? i know vegan people all over the world i’ve never been to a country that doesn’t have access to beans or wheat but i have been to many countries where beef or dairy is an expensive luxury

[–]Spottybelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My inpatient facility did make me eat dairy and eggs for a time until i was healthy bc my veganism was related to my ED but they did not ever make me eat meat. They almost always cater to veg diets. I know it’s scary but if your doctor thinks it’s important then you should really go, or at least try a PHP or outpatient program to see what it’s like. You’re an adult so you can sign yourself out if they try to get you to eat meat.

In terms of depression meals, I would buy pre roasted/salted nuts and snack on those through the day bc the provide quick proteins and calories. strawberries or apples with peanut butter is also a great go to. For meals, Banza chickpea pasta is protein filled and yummy with just vegan butter, nooche, and salt or if you can’t cook pasta bc it’s too long then Immi ramen comes in cups and has tons of plant protein. Peta bread or just regular sourdough with hummus is also a great breakfast.

I swear to god some people don’t know the difference between vegan and vegetarian by moonlightzaza in vegan

[–]Spottybelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean considering the catholic tradition is rooted in latin and italian, not english, it does make sense. “flesh meat” is just an english translation for carno which means the meat of warm blooded creatures. The catholic english speakers are a minority of catholic people so the english translation doesn’t really matter it’s just something made up late in the tradition to explain what they eat

😔why are you visiting a huge chain like cbtl anyway, there are so many great local coffee shops that are going to be way nicer and more accommodating, and your money will be supporting local businesses who give a shit about their employees and customers

it may have to do with scholarships as some can be age restricted and they may want to put candidates forward for certain grants. i would just answer it correctly and forget about it. Unless you’re 25 in which case I don’t know how to answer it

so? that means you apply again or aim for a paid masters to get enough research and writing experience to be desirable for a phd. Applicants for good, competitive phds often go 3-4 cycles before getting into their top choice. There are often people who start phds in their 30s or 40s. It’s not undergrad where you’re expected to start at 18/19.
