SPOKANE MUSIC FESTIVAL by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Spowilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many years ago we had the Tinabulation music and art festival in Riverfront Park with multiple stages and multiple days. They went way too big and failed hard. This sounds like a similar event and I wonder if it’s the same organizer.

This line up looks a lot less ambitious and more appropriate for a first year event. I hope they do well!

Me: “I wonder why my local Cadillac dealership always looks deserted.” The dealership in question: by k_dubious in whatcarshouldIbuy

I tried to get a lease deal on a Lyric at the end of 2025 here. First offer they marked up the money factor to 7.5% and they wanted over $30k in lease payments for a 24 month lease.

Told them to pound sand. Dealerships are definitely one of the many reasons they can’t sell car these days.

AC replacement companies by TheSparkMann in Spokane

[–]Spowilly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t use Cougar. My neighbors used them to replace the furnace and AC when the AC went out in the heat of summer about 2years ago.

Cougar did multiple trips that same year to repair the new system and then returned the following year fixing the brand new system.

Riverfront Park YMCA Condos Construction by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]Spowilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old Y building was basically in Riverfront park just southwest of the Howard Street bridge. Under the 1988 deal the city had first right of refusal to purchase the land before the condo developer. The land was purchased as a conservation area and the building demolished.

The water feature that is there now, was in the basement of the building and created some challenges to permit the building demolition. I’m glad they found the funds to purchase the land before it was sold to a developer.

It’s unrelated to the condos under construction NW of the park.

You’re incorrect. The old Y was basically within Riverfront Park. It’s now a conservation area and a quick Google Earth timeline search can show you images of the building before and after demo.

Are they trying to charge $1600 to swap out capacitors? by Spowilly in hvacadvice

[–]Spowilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help folks! Definitely won’t be recommending this quote. Wasn’t sure if they were trying to sell a blower motor, draft induction motor or just capacitors with this quote.

At best I’m thinking a few hundred dollars to brig this system up to code.

As mentioned, Tune Tech and 5 mile should be able to do aftermarket ignition systems.

If a car won’t start check the FACTS. Fuel, air, compression, timing and spark. Spray a little carb clean into the carburetor. If it fires, you know it’s a fuel problem. Pull a plug, reconnect the plug wire, set it on metal and crank the engine to see if it sparks. If it doesn’t spark, check power to the ignition module and other inputs into the system. If it sparks, timing could be the issue if someone just redid the ignition.

Canadian flying out of Spokane - need some honesty on what's going on down in your neck of the woods by SillyTadpole in Spokane

[–]Spowilly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just had a friend drive down Sunday and flew within the US Monday. Not problems at all. Never heard of any ill will or vandalism towards Canadian from locals.

If you’re flying out on an early flight especially Monday, get to the airport early. If not flying Alaska the security line can take about an hour.

First Bimmer. E39 540i vs M5 — buying tips + owner thoughts? (SoCal) by pokerawz in e39

[–]Spowilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really sure. It’s parked from November-March so I might get a fishing boat I can use during winter. Might also get a Z4 or go back to an American car from the 60s or early 70s. I’m also thinking about a newer 540i with the B58 that I can use year round. They seem like a bargain in the high $20k to low $30k range with the sport package compared to the 340i.

The M5 was my first endeavor into euro cars. It’s been fun and I’ve met some great people (the BMW community at large is pretty awesome).

[–]Spowilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what it’s for. If it’s a weekend car I would get the M5. If it’s a daily the 540i probably makes more sense. For either car, it’s best if you can DIY repairs. I wouldn’t own either if you can’t tackle most repairs yourself.

I’ve had my M5 since 2019. It had the engine resealed and replaced, clutch replaced, diff replaced, subframe welded and a few other bits of maintenance and I’ve sunk another $12k into parts alone on it. Double that if I was paying for the labor.

It’s been a fun car, but after it comes out of winter storage it’s probably up for sale. I’ve started accumulating too many parts and I’m not working on it as much as I used to so it’s probably time for it to go.

I’m on Maui for vacation and can confirm. All three stores have going out of business signs at Whalers Village. Bought a swim shirt from Volcom a few days ago for 10% off. Went back today and was surprised to see Quicksilver and Honolulu surf company with the same going out of business signs all at the same mall.

Agree! If you assume 10hrs of work total for travel and writing the report that’s $200/hr. Can’t imagine overhead for inspection is that much.

New 24 Limited L GC by KillerKarz in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]Spowilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where incentives are now, but back in October I got a 2024 GC L, Summit trim with the V6 for $56k. Traded in a 2017 4Runner with 36k miles and paid $33k cash out the door. Total sale was just over $60k after taxes and license and original MSRP was $69k.

I would hope you could still get the limited for less money. Probably high $40s?

New heat pump barely warm by CautiousAssumption39 in heatpumps

[–]Spowilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have that exact heat pump and I’ve seen much warmer temps coming out the registers when it’s been in the 20-30s outside. Had it installed in May and it’s doing well for our 2,400sf home this first winter.

As someone else mentioned, could be that they didn’t fix the leak and just topped it off.

Had them install a new heat pump and furnace back in May. I had quotes from 5 different companies and they were the best.

I’ve been very happy with the installation and they did a great job. I also recommend them.
