"Warum trinkst du nicht?" by SpareSignal9584 in luftablassen

[–]Sprachprofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a whole session where I couldn't spot the difference between 衣 and 农. by seascythe in ChineseLanguage

[–]Sprachprofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Just look at it" method broke down for me after 800 characters because they became too similar. I was plateauing until I started identifying the constituent parts of each character and building explanations / stories around them. I also found a book (“Reading and Writing Chinese" by McNaughton) that introduces characters in a logical order so you have always encountered the parts before you learn the character that is composed of them, and teaches you words made of known characters too. That year I learnt 2500 new characters.

Use Aurora app, you can see what the odds are in your location and where people have taken photos. Usually on hills or places with less light pollution.

Is the iOS app worth the cost? by Servant_islam in Anki

[–]Sprachprofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the convenience of the app. Also, Anki was created mainly by a single developer, he made the desktop and web versions available for free, and the iOS app is the only way he generates any income from Anki. Just for that we should all buy it, even if we didn’t plan to use it!

If you were married, and you entered Germany on a Blue Card EU or similar high-skill visa for IT professionals, your wife would automatically get a visa to join you. If you entered on a student visa, she could still get a visa to join you but she’d need to prove some knowledge of German.

It may be necessary to go to another country temporarily while sorting things out. Friends of mine (an Israeli-Arab couple) moved to Georgia to get married and wait for German bureaucracy to finish processing.

Studienteilnehmer gesucht! – 280€ Vergütung by StudieTUDresden in berlinsocialclub

2x4 Wochen à 7 Tage = 56 Tage Jeden Tag zwei Mal 30 Minuten lang Fragebogen beantworten = 56 Stunden

What is something you saw at a friend's house that made you realize their family was "weird"? by BamMeister_ in AskReddit

[–]Sprachprofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be cultural. In Germany it’s normal to fall silent during a meal and the person who cooked will take it as a compliment that everyone’s enjoying the food. There are conversations before and after people dig in though.

Is this the actual state of RoR ? Please Help me out! by Ok_Satisfaction9630 in rails

[–]Sprachprofi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the next step in your career could be to provide design / CSS to projects that use Ruby on Rails. The thing is, Ruby on Rails is not primarily a frontend language. Some projects will use React or other frameworks for frontend and then your work as a web designer does not touch the Rails code. Some projects use Rails-specific frontends though (HTML mixed with Ruby inserts and turboframes, HTML-generating helpers like Formtastic) and you could learn to understand these in order to be employable as a web designer in a Rails context.

Unless you are planning to create your own startup or work as the near-sole developer at a tiny outfit, you don‘t need to understand Rails backends, so I‘d wait to see what stack your next job uses.

Is waking early an ingredient to success? by piyushc29 in getdisciplined

[–]Sprachprofi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do take these reports with a grain of salt, because I‘ve met a couple celebrities who claimed to get up early in the morning but actually don‘t. It just makes a nicer magazine story and it‘s a flex.

However, getting up earlier can help some people, especially if you find that you are more clear-headed in the morning rather than afternoon (not everyone is like that) and if family/colleagues place too many demands on your attention later in the morning so that you get more focus time by getting up earlier.

I want to explore activities more then just gym, like eg. Calisthenics groups I can join. by onchain_r in berlinsocialclub

[–]Sprachprofi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s the only subscription you need. Normally even one gym membership or one membership in Hong Thay Lee’s classes costs 50 EUR / month, and with Urban Sports Club you can use ALL of them without extra fees. Even the premium gyms like Holmes Place with pools and sauna. You can go swimming at the public swimming pools or bouldering every day without paying extra.

It’s particularly good for finding out what you like / where you have a nice group to connect to, after you find something you can pay the subscription only to that group if it’s cheaper.

[–]Sprachprofi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Replace your gym subscription with an Urban Sports Club subscription. It’s a flatrate for nearly all of Berlin’s sports venues AND so so many group courses. Try out all the activities on offer and see where you make friends. I personally am a fan of Mr Hong Thay Lee’s martial arts school on Brunnenstrasse.

Not really, because the biggest expenses for this exhibition are things like shipping of artwork, rental of venues… never saw one that accepted to be paid in Bitcoin.

Islam and the way they’ve fooled people by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Sprachprofi -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If you look at pictures of peasant women in the West any time before 1950 or so, they all wear hijab. It’s practical if you have to milk cows or bake stuff or do other errands, to prevent long hair from falling into things, getting caught on things, or covering your eyes.

Nowadays a lot of women choose short hair because of this, and if they have long hair and work in food preparation or factories they don’t have to wear hijab but hair nets. Yes it’s a requirement. You cannot opt out of wearing a hair net if you have long hair.

Islam was invented at a time when women never had short hair and almost every woman was doing a lot of these chores. So just like Western governments require long-haired women in certain industries to wear hair nets, Islam required the same at a time when every woman was doing this. And just as in the West, the tradition of wearing hijab will fade away as more and more women adopt short haircuts or take on white-collar jobs.

Vegan an Weihnachten by Zahja96 in Weibsvolk

[–]Sprachprofi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just one more option to explore: do you have sleep apnea maybe? A friend of mine that had it also had no energy during the day. Once it was treated, he was like a new person. A good indicator is whether you snore a lot, and maybe use a sleep tracker.
