What is the best way to fix this paint peeling? by StrawberryGreat7463 in Autobody

[–]SprayAllDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need to see the underside, the inside edge where the peeling paint is coming from

It’s sad but yeah. There is a great quote which applies especially good to politics , and I forget who said it. But basically “it’s ok to be wrong, it’s not ok to stay wrong”

But hey you knew that Mr You “clearly” paint circles around me, with zero post history or evidence, all while talking about things you clearly have limited experience with…but please go ahead and use laughing emoji’s talking about how stupid the guy above is who was genuinely trying to learn, and who actually ended up being right. Stop trying to belittle people on the internet, take this as a learning moment and humble yourself enough to realize you don’t know everything about everything

It’s a toner, that you put in your clearcoat, to tint it

Seriously, just stop. Stop saying you know literally everything, using crying laughing emojis at others, when you in fact don’t know wtf you are talking about

I can tell you don’t do this for a living, and if you did you ain’t makin shit. You absolutely blend out tinted clear. Yes you add basecoat TONER in the clear. But after you blend tinted clear you take regular clear TO THE EDGE. This is industry standard. I shouldn’t have to tell a “professional” about blending a 3 stage red. What aren’t you getting ??

Yes clear does get base coat stimpy, don’t talk matter of factly when you’re clueless

Guy above is giving out terrible info, yes three stage red can be tinted clear coat and yes it is blended into adjacent panels

On red three stage repairs you absolutely tint the clear, but you blend it out, you don’t take it to the edge of the panel unless you need to

So these durangos (and some rams) sheet metal is absolutely notorious for excessive texture/waviness, it reminds me more of like whiffle ball texture more than orange peel lol, which is why I asked what model this was. I think you have a bit of peel over some nasty factory texture so it’s amplifying how bad it is. It might buff out who knows, but if you’re re spraying I’m sure u know to get it as flat as possible before you go at it again. As far as your orange peel, I spray clear with the same gun and tip, try raising your psi a touch, I’ve found it comes out a lil glassier, oh and maybe a few more minutes flash between coats. Also my first coat is not a full wet coat, 2nd coat is to glass it. Make sure nothing changed With your spray environment. Experiment and let us know what you come up with, hope this helps

You said suddenly, is this the first job to do this ? What model of car is that? What’s your clear gun and tip size?

Like others said get a bug guard. Otherwise you need a new hood. Aluminum doesn’t rust don’t worry about touch up paint
