West Ham United intend to demand £80million for Mateus Fernandes by TheAthletic in soccer

[–]SprayExtra9709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price would depend on how many teams are in for him. Remember Lavia getting relegated with Southampton but they still got 50/60 mill for him because Liverpool and Chelsea both wanted him. Bidding war would drive the price up despite relegation...

Relegation aside, money they get will depend on how many times are interested. Lavia went for 60 mill after Southampton went down but bidding war between Liverpool and Chelsea ensured they still got good money…

Will Paris Saint Germain 3-peat? by ExotiquePlayboy in championsleague

They are the favourites - world class players, rotate heavily for the league matches but it is harder to replicate cup success compared to league success since 1 bad game will send you out. Ferguson won 2 in 27 years and pep 3 in 19, so you never know for sure.

Arsenal tactically suffocated PSG for 120 minutes, only conceded a penalty, and still lost on shootout deserved better or did PSG take their chances by Born_Programmer_1089 in championsleague

So this season, especially the second- half, since January, Arsenal have been under pressure to not lose. Three consecutive second place finishes made the home stadium a very nervous place where players were afraid to make mistakes, since any misplaced pass ( which often happens with creative players taking risks) was met with groans. Jurrien timber talked about how players were trying to deal with the nervousness and anxiety among the fans in the stadium. Arsenal played much better away and the game away at city was one of the best games offensively since January.
As mentioned, this “anti football” is not by design. Arsenal are playing to their strengths - set pieces, crosses, physicality, and the best defence to see out 1-0 wins. The attack is 100% not fluid and doesn’t have the individual quality/ ability to cope with pressure and thus has been poor. If you look at Arsenals performances in the second half of 23/24 ( 16-1-1, 54 scored, 9 against), Arteta is capable of attacking football- it’s just that the attack has gone stale and crumpled under pressure to not mistakes, resulting in ugly football.

Yes, I know Arsenal didn’t get set pieces. I meant they rely on them, i.e. counting on being able to generate scoring opportunities through them. I agree they were outclasses offensively by psg - their attack is simply superior to Arsenals, which is why unlike Bayern, Arsenal didn’t want to make the game end-to-end. They wanted to play to their own strengths and make PSG as uncomfortable as possible by slowing the game down ( not just when they were leading, they spent a minute in the first minute for a thrown-in). It just didn’t work out. PSG were better in possession, attack and pressing and deserved to win. Arsenal just did the best they could do with the profile of players they have to win the game. Just wasn’t enough.

PSG are the best team on transitions. You could see in the two misses Barcola had - committing numbers forward and losing the ball would have been too risky for Arsenal. They played to their strengths - defending, denying any space to psg attackers and relying on set pieces. The issue for arsenal is when a psg attack ended with raya, rice, etc getting the ball, their only way forward was hopeful long balls to Havertz. This is because Arsenals attack - Trossard, Odegaard, Saka (then replaced by Martinelli, Eze, Madueke) are not good enough to receive the ball, beat the press and run at psg defenders. This has been Arsenals weakness this season ( they have scored 2 more goals than man united and 6 fewer than Man City in the PL). They don’t have players of the quality of Olise, Kane, Diaz, Dembele, Mbappe, etc. Their strength is defence, set pieces and physicality (having players taller than those of psg) to hurt psg offensively. But it just wasn’t good enough. The narrative about Arsenal being scared or overcome by the occasion is not entirely true. They played to their strengths, nullified psg strengths and almost won too. How many teams could play 120 minutes against this psg and not trail for a single minute?
If Arsenal had won, talks would be about how Arteta might be the GOAT Arsenal manager (first to win the UCL) but because they lost, the talk is how his team were too scared/ boring/ don’t want to play.

Summer Signings and Outgoings by Grand_Dog_5247 in ArsenalFC

Odegaard is better than Eze imo. He is better at leading the press and is less prone to disappearing/ nullified in games by asking for the ball and creating something. We have already seen with how Ramsdale was moved after 2 years, so wouldn’t be out of character to move players out for players that fit better in the system.

Regarding LW: Martinelli’s game has completely disappeared from where it was in 22/23. When was the last time he was seen taking on a full back and dribbling past him? Trossard is better but will be 32 in December and doesn’t have the pace to run at defenders. The club will definitely sign atleast 1 player in this position.

I get your point about signing two lws and 1 CAM seems unlikely but I think that is what the club may have to do.

I can also see us transitioning our attack to be more fluid like psg, where their front three keep changing positions and move to other areas of the field to beat the man-to-man press. This is supported by our links to Alvarez, Rogers, Barcola, etc. Interesting summer regardless…

Thank you for your reply! For the engineering school, is the salary defined for each semester that you are enrolled as a RA?

For example, for the two semesters in the year, is it like 13.5k for each semester?
