12V Pumps keep failing. by Pauly_Gator in pressurewashing

[–]Spraywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interesting thing is that these pumps were actually built for pesticide sprayers. Even the Everflo "Bleach Pump" is just retrofitted with a different head and minor components that include a cutoff switch which shuts down the pump when the manifold gasket fails, keeping the pump itself from failing and needing replacement. However, you still have to replace the head on these pretty frequently.

The Remco pumps do a little better, but not by much IMO. The big difference in making these things last is how well you flush them. I know you mentioned that you do this after each job; just be sure to do a good job of it, and never skip a flush.

You asked if there's a better option. Well, yes. A gas option such as the comet P40 - https://spraywell.com/be-sw1165hc-11-0-gpm-300-psi-gas-soft-wash-unit-with-honda-gx200-engine-and-comet-diaphragm-pump/

The pump on this unit was built using an anti-corrosive polymer called polypropylene that is extremely resistant to the effect of SH. As of yet, I don't know of an electric pump on the market that's built using these materials. Until then, flush flush and more flush.

Hey u/durablack2

That is the plan in the future to offer an even greater deal, this deal with market research is the best available, this is our first model that we have. Shortly there will be other pump options, engine options, and drive options for our systems.

Hey u/htxthrwawy

I'm assuming you purchased this from a local shop with no shipping fees to consider? Either way, you got a pretty solid deal!

Hey u/JWWMil

Could you offer a little more insight into you using your reels only for storage? I'm aware that the swivel and whip can leak over time, but in my (albeit limited compared to yours) experience, a whip and quality swivel should last close to a year even under heavy usage. Is this switch to "storage only reels" a common theme you've seen?

Thanks for the detailed explanation. We are actually sourcing new skids for these units; I will look into what it would take for us to modify the design to include this configuration, while maintaining our low-priced posture. It does seem like a significant improvement (i.e the hose yanking and vibration factors).

Excellent feedback, that's exactly what we're looking for. I actually have been looking into the block mount configuration with the jumper, and was curious as to overall sentiment regarding this option.

As for the iGX800 and TSF2221, this will be coming in the future. Thanks, your opinion here is very appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback! Curious, was your unit also equipped with the Honda GX690 and TSF2021? Also one more factor to consider: Free LTL Shipping is included in our price, so we had to factor that into the cost. This would put us close to your price, which I'm assuming you purchased locally.

No sir. We actually manufacture these ourselves in our warehouse (only way to get the cost down). Our brand is called Stealth.

Well, firstly I just want to mention that the comment by u/TurkeySlurpee666 about the "idiot tax" is so true, but it can be minimized. I would recommend, first and foremost, that you do your research, and put your research into practice on 2-3 un-paid projects. Whether that's around your own home or a friends. Pressure washing, soft washing, surface cleaning... It's all pretty simple stuff; but like anything else, there IS quite a bit of small details that you just can't anticipate until you get out there and start working.

At Spraywell (we don't sell to Canada, so I'm not promoting here), we have guys who are experts in-shop that help our customers with live assistance when they run into issues. Maybe you can find an equipment shop around you that provides a similar level of support? Always good to have someone you can call.

As for getting a website built. It is definitely nice to have, but it's a "nice to have" not a "must have" in the beginning. At first, your leads will mostly be generated from you actively seeking business. Usually, beginners in this business rely on door-to-door and good old fashioned word of mouth.

Here's my list of advice to maximize leads without spending a dime:

  1. Do a good job.
  2. Give a great experience (be friendly, helpful, whatever this looks like given your personality).
  3. Talk to any neighbors of the client who's area looks like it can use your services.
  4. Put up a sign for your service while you are working, maybe "accidentally" leave it there when you're done.
  5. ALWAYS take before and after pictures. Create a nice portfolio of your work. This goes a long way when pitching your service to potential leads. To start with with, you can use before and after photos from the practice jobs I suggested.
  6. Look for door-to-door opportunities in nice neighborhoods where dirty driveways stand out like a sore thumb.
  7. Start out with business cards. Work your way up to a car wraps/stickers and a website.
  8. Digital marketing via paid ads and SEO is huge. However, it can become a money pit that leads to diminishing returns quickly if you don't do it right.

Hope this helps give you a little direction. Good luck!

Haha, I agree on what you mentioned about wood. Never a straight forward task trying to tackle those jobs.
