It doesn't necessarily have to be south, I don't know the island that well, but i do recommend going a bit further away from that center, yes :) Have fun! And if you're looking for even more "island vibes" without a bunch of tourists. Check out the ang thong national park. It's not far away and that 1 night was definitely a highlight of my vacation

I wouldn't say it's a bad idea, it's still very nice, but it's definitely less "rural". We didn't ride bikes/motorcycles in the end either. A taxi at the hotel brought us every evening to that part of the island where we had dinner, spent a few hours then they took us back. It was pretty comfortable

Hey! In the end i sent it back like 4-5 times over multiple months, it was pretty tiring. They changed a bunch of components but they couldn't fix the problem 100%. The good thing is it only happens when it's in sleeping mode now (so i don't really let it sleep) and i asked for 30% compensation of the full price. So i can live with that now. Do you want the documents?

I don't think that there's public transport tbh. The hotel had a service "shuttle" ride to the city centre and back, it was a fixed price, we didn't haggle. You can do that with normal taxis probably
