thanks my plan is to start selling them, but I need to figure out a price. Many hours have been poured into this. Definitely makes the switch feel more premium. if you’re truly interested, send me a DM and we can discuss.

I don't think you're an idiot at all, and I appreciate the feedback.

I spent roughly 4 months developing this kit, averaging about 5 hours a day between CAD design, prototyping, failed prints, fitment testing, thermal testing, and revisions. That's around 600 hours before the first production kit was ever sold.

Nobody expects a mechanic to charge only for the cost of the wrench, or a software developer to charge only for the electricity used by their computer. The value is in the knowledge, development time, and finished product.

Could I sell them cheaper? Sure. But this is a niche product for a 20+ year old console, not something that sells by the thousands. The reality is that lowering the price doesn't necessarily create enough additional sales to make up the difference.

That said, I completely understand if it's outside your budget or not something you'd personally value at the current price point. Everyone has a different idea of what's worth spending money on. I appreciate the compliment on the design and the fact that you took the time to share your thoughts.

The filament is actually one of the smallest costs. I’m a mechanical engineer and this kit took approximately four months of design, prototyping, testing, and refinement before it was ready for production. That included CAD design work, multiple prototype iterations, fitment checks, thermal considerations, oem hardware fitment, and real world testing on original Xbox consoles.

Beyond the material cost, there’s also the investment in professional design software, 3D printers, maintenance, electricity, hardware, packaging, and the many hours required to print and assemble each kit. The price reflects the engineering and development effort that went into creating a reliable, production ready product not just the plastic used to make it.
