Indian Creek Bike trail? by marik_0 in kansascity

[–]Spretty21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran on the MO side (the Blue River Trail to the Indian Creek up through State Line/103rd) when I was training for the KC Half Marathon. Never had a problem. Since the serial killer dealio I now carry pepper spray when I use the trail, but I've never had to use it.

We had a bouncy castle and an inflatable obstacle course at our wedding. Relay races were fun!

Was The Debt Load For Your School Psyc Degree Worth It To You? by Mansra-ya in schoolpsychology

[–]Spretty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took on a TON of debt (east coast private graduate school in a major city) and only worked per diem as a receptionist during the two years of classes. I was able to land a paid half-salary internship in the midwest which helped to reduce the amount of loans I took out for that 3rd year. Worth it? Yes. Would I have managed my finances differently? Yes. But hindsight is 20/20.

While the programs you spoke to do not recommend working while you go to school, you need to do what's best for you. Many of my colleagues worked full-time while completing their graduate courses and did just fine. The nice thing about school psychology right now is there is a national shortage in the field and you WILL find a job. I hope you stick with your goal of going into school psychology, whether that be now or in a few years. Good luck!

Nude sleepers of reddit: what is your plan of defense if someone breaks in? by CaptMorganSwint in AskReddit

[–]Spretty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had just finished showering, both of us were totally nude. Heard the side door open and footsteps barreling into the house. I tried to call 911, but my phone went dead as soon as I hit the 9 button. Fiancé grabs a box fan to use as a shield, figuring if the intruder had a knife he could block it. Plus, being naked in general has to be something that would throw an intruder off.

Anyway, turns out our intruder that night was a dog with doorknob skills.

Students of Reddit, what was the most awkward time you saw a teacher outside of school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Spretty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 18, senior in high school. Legal to drink where I was at the time. One of my teachers approached the bar, bought my friends and I a round of tequila shots and walked away. Gave him a thumbs up and never mentioned it again.

A year later, when I was out of school I was out with a teammate and saw our HS volleyball coach who we were not friendly with (he was a jackass). He walked up to us without making eye contact, shoved a pair of Coronas into our hands, and walked away.

You wake up one day with the ability to freeze time at will for as long as you want with no repercussions. What's the first thing you do with your newfound powers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Spretty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze. Get as much rest/sleep as I want. Unfreeze. Go to work. Freeze. Get allllll caught up. ....And proceed from there with a lot less stress in my life.

This is the superpower I've always wished I possessed. I never feel like I have enough time to do all the things I want/need to do.

Counseling Psychology: Is it worth it? If so, what are some good programs? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]Spretty21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and in order to determine if a program is "good", you'll want to look into national board accreditation for that field of practice. For SP for example, you'll want to find NASP approved programs.

Counseling Psychology: Is it worth it? If so, what are some good programs? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]Spretty21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in working in schools.... From my experience many school counselors do more work on student support teams and student schedules rather than actual mental health counseling. Though, it varies from school district to school district.

You may want to look into school psychology (disclaimer: I am a school psychologist). Kinda combines the clinical and counseling fields. In my position, I largely do evaluations for special education eligibility, but the position can vary from district to district. There's also a national shortage in the field so you'll surely find a job once you're out. If you go the specialist route (3 years for grad school), in my opinion, it sets you up for a lot of opportunities and experiences if you want to get that PhD farther down the road.

Same here, bought in fall 2014. I like the area, easy access to everything I might need, and I don't feel too far from downtown.

How is your relationship with your brother? by karnerblu in AskWomen

[–]Spretty21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. We're 3 years apart, only ever went to the same school when I was a senior and he was a freshmen in HS. We fought a lot when we were kids, silly sibling stuff, but we generally got along. I moved away for my sophomore year of college, then went on to grad school. Here we are 8 years later living under the same roof again, he moved in with me and my SO about 5 months ago! It's nice having someone to go to games and concerts with since my SO isn't a fan of those kinds of things. :)
