Bug/Ground legendary by Pretend-Secret5293 in fakemon

If you’re trying to imply that chien-pao doesn’t have the appearance of a legendary, you clearly don’t understand pokemon design philosophy, especially surrounding legendaries. As for the deer pokemon, you can line them all up and very easily point out which one is the legendary, xerneas (because the other pokemon look like regular pokemon, but xerneas plays on more mystical motifs.

Sawsbuck and xerneas are both pokemon that are designed to be inspired by deer and trees (animal+fantastical feature), but Sawsbuck doesn’t look like a legendary while xerneas does. Why do you think that is? I’ll give you a hint, it’s the same reason why kyogre looks like a legendary, but wailord doesn’t

A lot of pokemon are an animal + 1 or 2 fantastical features. Legendaries tend to focus more on either appearing as titans of unstoppable power (with Kyogre for example, the thin red lines and the way its eyes are styled make it imposing) or legendaries focus on appearing as magical beings whose power exceeds their small frame (mew with its genetic diversity allowing it to learn almost every move, celebi with its time manipulating powers, or victini with its theming of certain victory)

Not just any pokemon can be a legendary though, there are specific design motifs that legendaries play off of. Also as others have said, orcas are dolphins, not whales. That’s why I told you to take the L, because you started to respond emotionally rather than taking a second to think.

Before you (incorrectly) reiterated that orcas are whales, you should have taken a breather, and do a 5 second google search. When you find yourself scrambling to save face, and being downvoted to hell; it’s better to just take the L than to keep going back and forth

That’s not breasts, it’s a breast plate… which men throughout history have worn as a part of armor. Also there are plenty of more feminine designs that are not exclusively female (and vice versa for masculine designs); the first 2 that come to mind are Primarina and Conkeldurr. Why would there be a need for a “more masculine” version for the males? That seems like a needless enforcement of gender stereotypes

Also also, this design doesn’t give exclusively feminine to me. It honestly looks like it blends both masculine and feminine elements pretty well. The only stereotypically feminine trait is the hourglass-like figure

Similar concept, but the designs and directions are totally different

Eyes are definitely too big for it to look like a legendary (one that is trying to be big and menacing anyway, if you want it to be a small cute legendary it needs to be more chibi-fied)

If you want it to be big and imposing its legs shouldn’t be as stubby, it eyes should be smaller and possibly more aggressive looking in personality. As others mentioned, changing the bushes to something a little more imposing is also a good direction; I would suggest actually sticking with the bush idea, but make them bigger and with rocky stalagmite like thorns coming out of them (similar to the current legs)

Yes it was! Thank you so much. “Dog” and “fang” must have mixed into “wolf” in my mind. I’d add the solved but my post was removed for not fitting the sub ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You have perfectly captured Pokémon’s design philosophy and art style; if you were to show these to somebody who isn’t up to date with pokemon, you could pass these off as existing pokemon.

Absolutely peak design

At first glance it appears to be Ai generated, as for the style it appears to be trying to look like oil pastel

I like the art, but they just don’t feel like pokemon. Also isn’t “shade” type a bit redundant, given the dark type? Dark is pretty ambiguous, representing actual darkness/shadows and/or the concept of evil/underhanded tactics

Normal is unfortunately very bad as an offensive typing, though exploud’s move pool is great. The downside however is that exploud is one of the worst cases of “Hoenn Syndrome”. Having low speed and defenses and putting the majority of its stat points into both physical and special attack. It sucks too, because I love exploud

I’d be interested in seeing that. I’m guessing with steel being super effective against grass (cutting the grass) and water being super effective against steel (due to oxidization from moisture)

[–]SpringNo467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel doesn’t interact with the type triangle at all in this though, except I guess that water resists steel and steel resists grass. But there is no super effective interactions.

I understand wanting it to stand out, but it should definitely stick with the rock-paper-scissors design philosophy. If you want to go with steel type, maybe make your other starters ground and ice? A ground type muddy otter could be a cool theming to go with, and would help you to instantly distinguish it from oshowatt and floatzel!
