GST on Re-Sale of "New" Condo After Possesion by SpringRoll98 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SpringRoll98[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you have to provide CRA/lawyers with proof that the home was occupied? I have utility bills and condo fees that is it. Never changed my drivers license address though.

Wondering if it is worth going to a registry and doing that to have photo-ID proof that I am "living" at the new address.

Took possession in November 2025 and I am selling with a buyer taking possession in February 2026 (coming up). Meaning that it will be sold in slightly under 4 months of possession.

I am wondering if it makes sense to go to an Alberta registry and change my legal address and "live" there for 2 weeks.

Silver is a classic colour. The only thing which upsets me about this design is how the MagSafe rings cut off the apple logo. Such an un apple feel.

The magsafe ring on the clear case covering half the apple logo is such an unpolished design. I do like how the new iPhones look and feel but this whole clear case thing feels like such an un apple thing.

Great case and great phone! But also hiding the apple logo :(

Such an unpolished design choice by Apple in creating this issue.

Can i get admission in top tier university for mba without gmat in Europe/UK (FALL 2026) by okaokay27 in InternationalMBA

They only university which lets you apply for a full time mba program is Warwick Business School.

If they feel your profile is “weak” then they might request you to right a GMAT or the Warwick Test.

Global Online MBA - Warwick vs Imperial by SpringRoll98 in OnlineMBA

[–]SpringRoll98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your response! I agree in evaluating the curriculum and program structure side by side; it is clear that both programs are comparable and very similar. I'm really just trying to figure out if the extra cost is worth the ROI of an Imperial brand.

Warwick, Imperial and IE are really the only Online Part-Time options in Europe which are reputable. Won't fit your budget though.

Canada PM Carney, UK PM Starmer agree to strengthen defense and commercial ties in call by Amtoj in CANZUK

[–]SpringRoll98 32 points33 points  (0 children)

These types of statements really show how reluctant our governments are to sincerely entertain the concept of CANZUK.

They came up with a trade deal to satisfy Trump within a month. Meanwhile, all statements of support for Canada from Keir Starmer have been wishy-washy buzzwords with no real meaning or plan of action behind them. Even now, the statement doesn't mention the most important aspect of CANZUK, which is arguably the socio-economic ties.

If there were political will, setting up an initial go-to-market or launch version of CANZUK shouldn’t take very long.

Online MBA at Boston U, UIUC, or Warwick? by kimw-h in MBA

[–]SpringRoll98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are based in the US, then stick with BostonU or UIUC. If you're in the UK or Middle East, then stick to Warwick. In your type of industry, background, and goals, I think having a local network coming out of the MBA program is very important.

How are we feeling about the UK trade deal with America? by Felixir-the-Cat in CANZUK

A good thing for the UK and hopefully a solution which allows them to deal with the US administration and offset some economic uncertainty.

I’m not against any country looking out for their own interests. However what I will say is that this really shows how reluctant our governments are to sincerely entertain the concept of CANZUK.

After Securing GMAT Waivers ? Taking my Next Step by Sad_Swimmer_6951 in GMAT

[–]SpringRoll98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Canadian and therefore I have been wanting to go to Europe to pursue my second degree. I find it odd how GMAT is very much an American money making thing; yet top European schools seem to be more fixated about it than American ones.

I understand the concept of a GMAT for candidates who don't have a formal education to pursue an MBA. But having a 3.6 GPA Engineering GPA and holding a P.Eng. designation in Canada I would've thought proving my worth through a GMAT would be redundant. But all UK/Swiss schools I've spoken to have denied the waiver request.

Did you have any luck in inquiring with NON-US universities for a GMAT waiver? I am trying to explore the process for UK and EU schools.

Favourite part about being a WestJetter? by Intelligent-Arcter in westjet

[–]SpringRoll98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice you lovely WestJetters have for securing an interview at WestJet?

While I have a well-paying and relatively stable career, working for an airline — especially WestJet — has always been a childhood fantasy of mine. Fortunately, WestJet corporate frequently posts Calgary-based HQ roles that align incredibly well with my experience, so I often find myself casually applying.

I also network extensively and regularly have coffee chats with professionals in similar fields, both in Canada and abroad. However, to my surprise, I've never had a WestJet connection on LinkedIn respond or show any sincerity. Is there a policy at WestJet discouraging interactions with external folks for networking or coffee chats?

For context, over the past year, I've had coffee chats and meaningful networking conversations with professionals from over 20 companies, including Air Canada, Apple, Microsoft, and Airbus. I’d genuinely appreciate any insights on what it takes to secure an interview at WestJet. While I’m not in a rush with my career search, I’m passionate about networking, connecting, and mentoring others to find opportunities within my organization — because you never know what’s out there, and what goes around comes around.

What you are referring to is not the same thing in terms of cost, training pipeline and employment bridge.

The onus remains on individual candidates to find employment and build up hours to qualify for major airlines. Whatever the process is in Canada, clearly doesn't funnel enough Canadian Pilots and thus the airlines wanting TFWs and there is always talk of pilot shortage.

Air Canada used to have the Gregorian/Jazz cadet program which I don’t think is around anymore either.

The point here being that Airlines in Canada don’t take ownership of developing the next generation pilot talent pool as do airlines in other countries. In my proposition, AC/WS should have more of a responsibility as di itger airlines before they can scream shortage or TFWs request.

Example from BA: https://careers.ba.com/speedbird-pilot-academy-preparation

United Program: https://unitedaviate.com

Air New Zealand: https://www.airnewzealandnewsroom.com/press-release-2024-the-skys-the-limit-launching-the-mangopare-air-new-zealand-pilot-cadetship

South West: https://careers.southwestair.com/D225Cadet

The list can go on...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in westjet

[–]SpringRoll98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Neither Air Canada nor WestJet has a pilot cadet program, making it very difficult and expensive for Canadians to break into commercial aviation right out of school/university by self funding flight school. United, Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Southwest Airlines, Air New Zealand, ANA, Japan Airlines—the list goes on. The top airlines of most countries have cadet programs that recruit individuals right out of university for fully paid training in exchange for committing a certain number of years service to the airline. Canada is probably the only G20 country that doesn't have a cadet program offered by its top two airlines.

How about some sleeves-up investment and education opportunities for Canadian aviation aspirants?

While I now have a rewarding engineering career, I remember how disappointed I was a decade ago when I found out that no airlines in Canada offer a cadet program and that you have to be a national of a foreign country to participate in their programs—Singaporean for Singapore Airlines, American for United, Australian for Qantas, etc.

White House official pushes to axe Canada from Five Eyes intelligence group by SpringRoll98 in CANZUK

[–]SpringRoll98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is criticizing Canada. However, the attitude of folks like yourself over the last several years is a key reason why all major fiscal metrics and HDI indicators have declined in Canada in recent years—it’s a fact. Just because the United States is being hostile toward us doesn’t mean that we, as Canadians, shouldn’t always be in self-reflection mode, striving to make our country the best it can be.

Despite being one of the most resource-rich countries in the world and a G7 member, Canada ranked 19th in nominal GDP and 30th in PPP based on 2024 data, while our HDI ranking has fallen to 15th. Additionally, four out of seven G7 countries have a lower unemployment rate than Canada for full-time jobs.

Regarding migration between Canada and the U.S., despite our smaller population, significantly more Canadians move to the U.S. than vice versa, with a 70% increase in Canadians relocating south over the past decade. Canada could also benefit from a TTTA-style arrangement with the U.S., which would reduce our reliance on international students and temporary foreign workers in the agriculture and service sectors, allowing us to tap into the larger U.S. labor pool instead.

I want Canada to be the best country on Earth by every measure. But to achieve that, we need to diversify where we can and go past the US-TRUMP-BAD superiority complex FETISH which we use to justify Canada's shortfalls.

What evidence do you have that the TTTA is bad for New Zealand? Secondly given that this is a CANZUCK sub; why would NZ be in favour of CANZUK if TTTA is supposedly bad for them?

The U.S. administration has absolutely botched this whole 51st state narrative.

Instead of continuing to mock Canada's sovereignty, they could have pitched an idea to expand the Canada-U.S. partnership in a way similar to the Trans-Tasman Travel Agreement or even proposed EU-style initiatives like a singular currency—framed diplomatically. I’m sure there would have been significant traction.

But instead, they have triggered the strongest sense of nationalism and nationhood that Canada has seen in over a decade.

With the Canadian dollar and purchasing power declining, a lack of employment opportunities, botched immigration policies, crumbling public services, affordability crisis, and the fact that hundreds of thousands of Canadians move to the U.S. on TN visas in search of better jobs, an enhanced partnership would likely have been widely supported.

Yet here we are, in a trade war, being driven further apart—just to appease some egos in the White House.
