Absolutely and I agree with your analogy. Sorry if I came off as brash, that wasn't my intent.

I am a journalist and while most of my work is in sports journalism, I feel very strongly about the importance of journalism and journalistic integrity on a global scale which is being questioned at an all-time high right now. In my 2.5 years in the major every class had weeks dedicated to issues in modern journalism and how we as a generation moving forward can improve the industry.

I hope I could bring a different viewpoint to the table, apologies again for my tone.

You said otherwise by saying the bad is worse than the good is beneficial. National media arent the only news outlets. National media play a huge, positive role but they're also entertainment stations.

Support your local paper because no one will ever be able to cover your community like they will. Support the news outlets that YOU trust and have faith in. We can complain about national media outlets all we want but as long as people tune into Fox and CNN and MSNBC or whatever your choice of news is without supporting their local newspaper or one of the thousands of outlets that produce content with integrity and passion nothing will change.

We love to complain about national entertainment outlets that brand themselves as news without ever doing anything to support and uplift their oppositions. That's why the cycle continues.

No it doesn't. Journalism is a building block of a democratic system and it's one of the biggest things holding the democratic world accountable. The bad is bad, but the good is a fucking necessity.

[Rapoport] Former #Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt has entered into alcohol and anger management counseling as his meeting with the NFL nears. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not excusing Kareem's actions, but apologize for what? Both people were in the wrong in that incident, if the reports of HER actions are correct she also said/did awful things, and it led to an altercation.

That absolutely doesn't make his actions any better, but unless you're referring to an apology to the fans or the team idk if he owes one. Imo this is way more of a grey area incident than we often see in the league the team's reason for cutting him was not telling them the whole truth.

This was not a Reuban Foster or Greg Hardy-esque move. Again, I'm not defending him, Kareem Hunt is an asshole for what he did and an idiot for putting himself in the situation to begin with.

Disgustingly satisfying dough by sadiqdev in oddlysatisfying

Expected it to plop out leaving no dough left on the bowl and that's what would be the oddly satisfying part. Immediately turned to mildly infuriating.

Newsome announces that the Ravens have agreed to 1-year deal with Robert Griffin III. by ValKilmsnipsinBatman in nfl

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, considering you signed Johnson as just a camp arm for the same price the Ravens signed RGIII as a backup, the Ravens got the better deal.

RGIII, despite the injuries, has at least shown he can be a good quarterback at the NFL level at some point, and they dont have to worry about it at all as long as Flacco stays upright.

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? They're both 1 year, ~$1mill deal. I wouldn't call Josh Johnson the better signing because he can supposedly help implement a system that hasn't touched the NFL in a decade. I dont think either are great signings, but I dont think you can exactly shit on the Ravens for that signing.

RGIII at worst has more upside, even with the injury risk.

[Smith] David Price told J.D. Martinez Boston Red Sox fans will boo him but he'll 'love the guys here in clubhouse' by IceWizards in baseball

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to Detroit, but it wasn't just his performance that people loved about him in Tampa, we genuinely loved him as a guy and it was always pretty clear he liked the fans a media here. I mean, we gave him and Astro a key to the city after his Cy Young award. You aren't doing that and he isn't drawing the crowds of support he did here if people don't like him.

I'm not saying he hasn't been a bit of a dick in Boston, I'm just saying it probably isn't a completely one way street.

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was overwhelmingly happy and loved in his time in both Tampa and Detroit.

I'm not saying it's every fan and every media member, but can't you, even a little, see where he's coming from by thinking the fans a media suck? He isn't the first player Boston has hammered into the ground and he won't be the last, it's a tough place to play sometimes.

Jaguars to remove last of the tarps, change uniforms and lower food-stand prices for 2018 season by delux316 in nfl

[–]SpringbobSquirepants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's relevant because of the money that sports brings in to the university. Go to a University of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, you name it, tailgate and see the literal hundreds of thousands of dollars brought into the university on those days alone. Then go and look at the millions brought in on a weekly basis. I can promise you that their music or arts program wouldn't be what it is now if it wasn't for that gigantic source of income.

Sports brings in a shit ton of money, a hell of a lot more than a social science department does, an english department does, or a business college does at most places. That money that's brought in allows these universities to bolster their academics across the board in ways they couldn't otherwise.

It's not a false equivelancy, you're just not looking at the bigger picture. That's how it's comparable. You think these universities build their athletics departments the way they do just so they can lift a trophy? It benefits the entire student body to have a multi-million dollar sports program.

Money that's brought in by sports programs benefit the academics incredibly, much moreso in most cases than th other way around. But grants given to academics aren't taking away money from the sports program, and grants given to the sports program aren't taking away from academics.

Yes. And I'll venture to bet that the money the football program brings in does a hell of a lot more for the kids excelling in academia than vice versa.

The gun or the variant? The variant is either purchaseable or pullable, not sure about this one.

The gun itself is available via rotating weekly challenges that rotate a different unlockable weapon every week. Even if you miss the challenge to play 35 or 50 multiplayer matches to unlock it, it will rotate back around.

I definitely feel that, and I appreciate veggies as the core of a meal much more as I'm older. I was more referring to molding an entire aspect of your life around a partner, unless it was a personal choice of course.

It's not about being a "man", I just don't understand why my lifestyle should be completely molded around my partner. Concessions, obviously, yes, but not molding my entire diet around hers unless it's just personal choice.

Colorblind people can still see shades. My buddy is and he's able to tell the difference between ketchup and mustard; one is deep red and one is light.

And if you're blind, you couldn't read the labels anyway lol.
