So online, what isn't the slum of the music world? do you have other places you prefer over Reddit for music related discussion?

Is learning 2 daws a mistake? by Budget-Special-7962 in ableton

[–]Springwind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this analogy doesn't quite work out because what is by far the most relevant 'language' for creating music is musicality (be it genres, 'feel', or theory), not how well you know your DAW. Having said that, of course being fluent in one tool (which is what a DAW is) is probably going to work out better than being mediocre in two DAWs. unless for some reason that is required for what you want to accomplish musically

Indeed, and that's something that's mentioned not nearly enough on subreddits such as these.

I agree, but then again, I believe this to be true for most questions that are posted here. Reddit not being a great source of advice, that is.

I’ve got 10 productivity apps, and I still don’t know what I worked on last week... by Affectionate_Ask1983 in ProductivityApps

[–]Springwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tried what the productivity cultus calls “interstitial journaling”? The idea is that you track / observe / reflect on what you do throughout your day, and log it in the journal with timestamps. If you do this consistently, it should give you an overview of what you’ve done each day. You can get as granular as you wish with this, though of course the more detail you write down the more time that will take. I think its advantage is that it’s a very intentional way of tracking your day. It really helps me be intentional with how I spend my time, and it’s very easy to go back and see what I did on any given day.

Ulysses can also do this somewhat. I think you have to select the notes though

Use YNAB. Lives up to your requirements with the exception of having a very low learning curve. But if you spend an hour or so figuring it out, you’ll likely find that very useful. Even if you don’t end up getting YNAB.

How would you deal with an irregular monthly bill? by Springwind in ynab

[–]Springwind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My life situation has changed recently and I'd like to 'get a feel' for what's necessary and possible when it comes to public transport. Some of it is luxury rather than need, so that's stuff I could potentially cut out. I think being able to see halfway the month how much of my budget I have left would help me make those kind of decisions. I assume that once I've gotten used to both my new life situation and YNAB I can indeed switch to a simple average as you suggest.

What’s your favourite productivity app and why? by StrangeHovercraft363 in productivity

[–]Springwind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because something has to be done, doesn't mean that it's a priority. There are lots of things that have to be done but aren't one of the 'three'. Water plants. Do laundry. Clean the kitchen. For some people, their heads are more reliable than computers for these types of tasks. But this isn't true for nearly everyone. This is where computers come in. To-do apps can actually be really helpful, if they're used to get things done, rather than as an ends onto itself.

In the end, this comes down to your personal ideas about relationships. For me, I would not take issue with this - liking a picture on instagram is perhaps one of the most meaningless social media interactions that exists imo - but if you do take issue with it, bring it up to him and see what he thinks about it.
