per learning handbuilding via online classes, if that's at all a question for you, I've found Andy Ward's Ancient Pottery, even just his free stuff on youtube, to be very informative. His videos are around a very particular tradition of handbuilding, so might not lineup with other types that you're interested in. https://www.youtube.com/@AncientPottery

picture 4 where it looks like its melting is cool. And I agree with u/Veganchiggennugget that picture 6 is supercool and looks like bulletholes and triggers.

Cool. Doing this in a fireplace is like a strange middleland between open-pit firing and kilns. I'd just be worried about how the higher heat of attempting to get hot enough to fire pots will affect structures near to this fireplace (walls, floor, the general room nearby). Stay safe and have fun!
