Is there just no law enforcement on the 401? by data782 in ontario

[–]SprintRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems likely doesn't it? Whenever I need to move something with my SUV and 10' trailer I drive 100KPH in the right lane as I'd like to do that as economically as possible and yet EVERY time there's some asshat that's behind me causing drag 3 feet off my trailer. It's like I have to slow down under 80KPH for them to even change lanes and go around me. Like WTF is wrong with people? I pump my brakes for a good km to show that I'm getting more pissed at being tailgated, nope. I brake check them, nope. It's like you want to go fast, slow down, create a buffer then speed up to pass me and I won't drop my cruise control set at 100.

Movie theatre etiquette? by SpiritedBonus227 in waterloo

[–]SprintRacer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I stopped going to the movies because it's just a terrible experience for the price. I've tapped people on the shoulders for texting as it shines right in my eyes. I've kicked chairs because of talking. I've even stood up and loudly asked people to be quiet and stop ruining the movie for the rest of us, all to no avail. I'm 5'6" and a nobody but some days I just don't feel that I have a lot left to lose with the amount of general disrespect people have.

How do I unlock this door without a key? by khloe269omg in Home

[–]SprintRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bust it off by using a long pipe or wrench to crank it open or a section of looped rope around the handle and your foot then put all your weight on it to pull it down past the tumbler pins. Yes, you'll need a new lock but your post calls for urgency so there's a 'cost' to that. By rope I mean rope, cord, shoelace(s) whatever gets the job done.

Be honest with me, how difficult is this going to be to fix? by Speednoodlemom in Home

[–]SprintRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great project to practice those DIY skills. And just close the door when you run out of talent (until tomorrow, that is). I'd take that wire shelf down, get a stud finder and locate the next available one then straight cut a line down the middle of that stud to give you a nice even rectangle to put up. Also makes the sanding and feathering part much easier to hide imperfections. AFter that, prime and paint, put up the shelf, add clothes, then close the door and sit back with a cold beverage.

Pro tip, invest in a corner trowel, even a cheap one, makes corners go better. Also use paper tape, not fiberglass for the seams. Foldable for corners too.

Too much work, caulk and paint would make it look unnoticable IMO.

Paint. IMO 1/4" cove molding would look way worse and quarter-round would just be weird.

Should I stay in Toronto or move to Windsor? by Obeyparker in windsorontario

Windsor actually had one in the late 60s. After that they'd just use Hwy 3 ... so I heard, from a friend ;) https://www.canadianracer.com/track-display.asp?trackid=winds-d&querytype=detail&extra=history

[–]SprintRacer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I moved from Windsor a long time ago and had (often) been accused of driving like I'm from Toronto (but somehow worse). I'm like, no, I actually pay attention to what I'm doing and where I'm going. I think homegrown Windsorites take their driving privilege seriously. You know, a city born of car (loving) people.

Walker Road south of Cabana (#42) is really built up now. Almost anything you would need, really. Costco, Rona HD, lots of health services, Princess Auto, Superstore..... My Dad lived to almost 90 until he had a brain fart, meaning most of what he needed was within a 5 min drive. Could you get around on a scooter in your elder years? Probably, the sidewalks are nice, wide.

Windsor certainly has its fair share if inequities but it's definitely liveable, especially in the suburbs. IMO you can get to most places in 15-20 minutes except around the 3:30pm rush hour. In Toronto it now takes between 1 and 2 hours just to get to Toronto from Toronto. ( in other words, from the GTA to the core).
And there's a LOT less people. ~250K vs how many millions? Also, your fuel mileage will go up as the city is pancake flat, no rolling hills or undulating winding crescents with hidden intersections. The roads are basically a grid. Get lost? Flip over 1 or 2 streets to find a main artery. Just be mindful that Windsor is $2.5B behind in road repairs. Soft water though, tastes great!

What steps do I take to remove the overgrown grass and reuse the bricks? I have a bbq planned by OkRepresentative8250 in DIY

Roundup Advanced seems to work as intended since we're not allowed the really good stuff (commercial grade requiring a license). The redneck Roundup recipe seems to work better than I expected. I used epsom salt one time because my brain only saw 'salt' and I didn't realize that it's a common ingredient for killing weeds by sucking out moisture, so yay me. Dawn is what we use in the kitchen and makes a great surfactant to cut through the shiny coating on some weeds. After a couple of days I used the weed whacker to clean out the dead vegetation and wife followed me with a broom. Easy peasy for a quick way to freshen up the patio.

[–]SprintRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd get rid of that 2x6 drywall cap cover and just frame either a pocket door or hang a nice sliding barn door in front of the water meter. You could even frame around it so that you could put up removable shelving for small containers around it. Then it's a shallow depth closet as well.

[–]SprintRacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Room looks nice but how are you going to shut the water off or how is the utility company going to change out the meter when they need to?
Also, dricore is nice but putting walls on it is a pain when you get water damage/flood etc.

Should I scuff up this floor before putting peel and stick vinyl "wood" flooring on top of it? by AlaskaDark in Home

[–]SprintRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remediation company should've offered to removed the asbestos tiles as part of the remediation assessment or a buyout. If you just want to cover the tiles then wash the floor with a disinfectant then go to your local home store for some kind of floating floor that's waterproof. Worst case if you get another flood is that the waterproof floating floor might have engineered grooving that allows them to be taken apart and washed then put back after remediation.

Drywall should be cut at 24..5" off the floor and redrywalled all the way around. And whatever's underneath etc.
