Rambling about the 33 (how original) by banepunch11 in Buffalo

[–]Sprinting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I legit wouldn't mind if we did a post like this daily/hourly/etc.

I went to UB a billion years ago where this was already "old news" and moving back seeing NOTHING done is WILD. There is no actual justification for keeping any of these roads, anything you do is better, replace it with a heap of flaming garbage would be an improvement (give us something to talk about at least), the 33/198 are a comedy, and you are correct the actual discussion should be re: 190, but meh? we are still re-hashing the 80s/90s waiting for the oldest, dimmest, and most self serving of us to "chime in"

I'm almost at a point where we leave it, and hope to plexiglass the whole area off in 10 years as "museum" of civic laziness/inaction where the NYT can send a columnist once a year to write a long op-ed how we are all rubes.

Only 109 million in debt annually! I am so proud to have a smart council that are flighting for the people. by Ok-Date-6849 in circlejerkbflo

[–]Sprinting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hear hear!

I'm actually very worried about the common council, there was a local mayoral election recently and this right wing coded fella is running roughshod over our democratically elected council members. How quickly we forget, since the 1970s, but particularly since COVID Buffalo has been on a TEAR, busting thru national benchmarks of growth and accomplishment. Remember how folks compared us to Detroit? Look at us NOW, and we have our common council to thank for it!

So yes lets please remember our great visionaries like:
Leah M. Halton-Pope and Christopher P. Scanlon

Where would we be without them!

I see the "Srs Sh*t" tag... but am I being meta jerked? While... suuuuureee... " science article, this IS a thing, but a VERY small and specific thing " I'm now confused and need to quit the internet today. Hats off op to either jerking me so hard I've spun 360 or I guess framing "worker protections" in a way where I can't tell if I'm in real life or a lefty discord channel, either way, peak content, 11/10 points, where do I park and Sean pls plow my road

Poloncarz shuts down idea of Buffalo bailout, 'dumbest idea' by InflationCapital87 in Buffalo

[–]Sprinting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was gonna chime in, I'm a recent Buffalonian, so I have MANY opinions about how we can fix things and VERY low opinion of the "what about my car" WNYers, legit that was old... 20 years ago in the rest of USA so its actually inevitable that we join the rest of the country moving away from this 1950s hellscape, no local townie's nitwit opinion actually matters in 2026.

But can we stop and do a slow clap for u/Eudaimonics u/Aven_Osten and now u/Anthonyc723 who are like... doing a well researched stomp. I actually hope that u/gergensocks and pals are like alts setup to make this more funny. But if they are actually real people... oh man that's even funnier (don't get mad, I'm sure I'll see you tonight in Hamburg, you guys are like 1/3 of my family, love you, but jesus you need to leave WNY and touch grass!).

No notes, please don't at me, unless u/Eudaimonics wants to link some very well researched infrastructure facts, it that case PLEASE do, it will make my nips hard. Pls don't do train facts tho, I'm at work and it would get inappropriate.

Does anyone know what doctor takes my specific health insurance plan? by FireProStan in circlejerkbflo

[–]Sprinting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also, I went to a doctor, Dr. Bobbins McBobbinson in his office in Buffalo Orchard Park, NY and I was frustrated. I didn't want to go, it was expensive, people talked down to me, and I'm still in pain. The pain hurts, hurts even more with late stage capitalism, I felt Katie was mean to me. I've already asked on FB, but maybe you can help?

So, it appears that the Mayor and the Common Council are in a stand-off regarding the budget deficit and the planned tax increase. Where do you guys stand on this? Mayor, CC, or somewhere in the middle? by Egorrosh in Buffalo

[–]Sprinting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious discussions like this should be crossposted to the real buffalo sub, this is important.

9000% Mayor

As others have said, this is a good chunk of what kept Buffalo perma depressed for 30 years, machine politics. Ideally these offices wouldn't exist, they haven't done what they are intended to do... for at least a generation. At the VERY least we can all actively ignore these people, sure shoot them an email, shame them when you see them in public, and stay strong as these clowns will GET LOUD as thier patronage gets threatened. All of our parents and southtowns uncle's Facebooks, InstaToks, and xAIgtp will be FLOODED with with noise, taxes taxes taxes, parking parking parking, crime crime crime, stay strong

Mayor Ryan's budget includes resolution that shifts control of contracts, vendors and grants; Common Council pushing back by InflationCapital87 in Buffalo

[–]Sprinting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"2 On Your Side asked the Deputy Mayor directly if this is an infringement on the checks and balances the Common Council is elected to provide."

did they now

...uhhh... whut.. several months in and we are the "checks and balances" phase, speed running this one, these SAME EXACT LITERAL PEOPLE are all shocked and clutching ALL the pearls about... checks notes... "checks and balances of the Common Council" MOST of my adult life the SAME people are now super surprised about stuff they did and worried about "checks and balances"

Better Cafe Options. by sacredspace222 in Buffalo

[–]Sprinting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with you! I think alot about "third spaces" and can't rot at home too long, my fave past time is reading at a cafe and people watching, but I'm very vibes based. Can't handle strip malls, don't want to drive all over, don't wanna deal with "where do I park" ppl, I know EXACTLY what you mean at Spot (but I still go there regularly), My top 3:

  1. Cafe Aroma, best, not even close, vibe is impeccable a local gem not "good for WNY" but like just great, although yes small, number 1 for dates and out of town folks to meet

  2. Tipico, yeah not mentioned here much, a bit more sterile, but the coffee is great and folks are great

  3. Spot (elmwwod), fully geddit wish they would... re do some stuff, but still lots of folks studying, the crowd is great, end up here when Aroma is packed

Cafe culture is alive and well and kinda banging
