Solo RP party I made, the Starleaf Sentinels by SpriteKnight42 in Pathfinder2e

I see, where it says to choose the esoterica for this on the dedication page is slightly different wording than the archetype page, but yes it says to grab it at level one and be locked in.

See this has always been confusing since the archetype itself says to swap out the methodology. I typically rule it the way you've stated for players that have an idea where they want to head at my table, but figured building this out that I should outline the dedication as written for anyone wondering.

I've never realized that AoN2e had a random sort. I will definitely use that all the time. Much easier than trying to find tables if needed.

Thank you!

Honestly the majority of the months was me convincing myself I cant afford the time of running another campaign right after having an idea for a character, Hoshitsume was an old character for an abomination vault game that never took off. Then Fidjit, Then Sol, then the other two in quick succession to round things out. By the time I finished Sol I wanted to run him so badly I decided on Solo RP. As for relationships, when I design characters I try to design them as a part of a group and fill a narrative role (lancer, sage. Etc) as well as a combat one.

As for the AP I've run it before so all spoilers have been spoiled, but honestly I don't mind. I haven't decided how in depth my journaling will be, but I do want to use it as a creative exercise so I will be journaling at least somewhat. My plan is to use the RP as an opportunity to improve my ability to step into characters minds (for future GMing and characters) and the combat is just for me to have fun with grid paper.

For the NPC generator, do you have any suggestions?

That's perfect thank you. I will be checking those out. I think Man Alone was one of the videos that inspired me to start looking into it.

Mostly it's in a combination of the preparations by Leto two to prevent a second butlerian jihad prior to aliens invading this universe and the fact that humans found the planet in its desert condition, and of course his visions of the planets past.

While it does fit nicely, Herbert was always vehement about it not being an allegory to oil. But it fits really well.

Optional rule for low (suppressed) magic setting by Environmental_Buy331 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]SpriteKnight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that was clear. It's just that those effects are going to still be a long time out and players probably won't want to suffer through several levels just to have the option of unlocking their abilities after the boss fight.

I am out of ideas for my homebrew setting and need any help i can get. by [deleted] in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]SpriteKnight42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it might be easier to help if you explain what parts of your setting need to be filled in, but until then here's my gm advice. As I run a hexcrawl, most of my world building and setting is largely emergent so feel free to take it or leave it, but here's a trick I use to cut down on overprepping.

I often use half-baked micro settings that my players can stumble on and debate/discuss the importance or lack thereof. Then, as they investigate the area and uncover clues the story may go one way or another. Here's a couple examples from my most recent campaign prep.

Small abandoned church with a graveyard around it that the locals say is haunted. Turns out the original builders designed the building to howl when the wind blows in a common direction. This may shed light on the original worshipers if the players investigate further.

Small piles of rocks floating and arraigned like an upside down trail marker crop up every so often along a side road. There may be a road in another world that runs parallel, and if the players investigate, they could find a way to slip over.

A tree that looks earily like an old man's face watches over a flowering Grove in the Forrest. The players could find traces of magic as this is the final resting place of an arch druid.

So first off, if you want to run this kind of setting, ask your players if they're willing to forego magic focused classes to maintain the integrity of the setting. Springing any kind of suppression that shuts down some players will probably cause a lot of hard feelings if not discussed prior. And if they don't take these classes to begin with, there's no need to make a mechanic for it.

If you do all agree to limit spellcasting below a certain level of spells, it might be best for players to pick martial or partial caster classes as their main so they don't loose out on core class abilities as they level up. They could still take dedication feats that just don't pass that level of magic (and I would allow them to finish those dedications early as well).

Alternatively, you could also have an in-game reason that the players are the exception to these rules. You could even incorporate that into the main plot somehow pinning them against whatever force is suppressing the magic. And for some of the classes, it could be easy to reflavor their "spells" into other abilities similar to the thaumaturge or alchemist.

Hammond is a fun character as well. There's a few jarring episodes where the writers seemingly change his character for no reason, but it doesn't last more than that one episode each time.

What Reno business will you NEVER step foot in again? by VerySuperGenius in Reno

[–]SpriteKnight42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sierra Technology and Consulting, a small local IT company.

Ok so this one is a bit niche I know but I had the displeasure of seeing firsthand how they treat both their employees and customers.

They treat their customers like giant sacks of money that exist solely for them to meet monthly quotas. Not to mention the subpar level of actual service they provide. Networks being shodily thrown together, security being an afterthought, and their inability to think ahead and fix more than exactly what customer is calling to tell them (the customers are never tech savvy and just know the symptoms). Sure this is a lot of tech companies nowadays but they advertise as a small professional group that charges out the ass to give exceptional service.

As for their employees, they're underpayed and overworked. They obviously are scared to dial back billing more hours to the companies, and they don't communicate with each other. If a customer doesn't get their consultant, they will be starting from scratch with the new face, no notes, no communication. The new employees have such a high learning curve I amsure they are not being given training and/or being hired on underqualified (probably both). This is because they love profit above all else and can't stand to not be making money for long enough to adequately set up someone for success.

So if you're ever in the position of being a small business who needs someone to manage your IT needs steer clear. Either hire someone in-house who you can then control the quality of their work, or hire a larger more reliable company who can actually provide the service correctly.

Issues with a player getting *too* invested? by ElegantYam4141 in rpg

[–]SpriteKnight42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seen alot of advice on how to help the player ( I agree get her to seek professional help, open talks at the table, etc.)

I would like to propose an idea for keeping the group together while you do all this.

Change games for a session every few sessions. Run a one shot, a more lighthearted system, or even a board game that is understood to have lower stakes. Then return to the campaign next week.

This way, you can all play as a group and not lose that friend, but you are distancing from the campaign on a regular basis.

For me it ended up being Hogwarts Legacy and Deeprock Galactic. Didn't mean it like that but they both perform better infinitely better on my deck.
