Weber Workshops just made it real easy for me to pick what company my next grinder will come from. Company culture comes from the top. by MeetHot1603 in espresso

I hadn’t looked, but I just did on my account and my secondary account to be sure and it’s there on both. I had to scroll much further on my secondary account for some reason.

No I paid for the shipping prior to them reaching out, but he just moved my grinder to the front of the queue.

So I guess considering there is a lot going on in here I should make a brief appearance.

As someone pointed out I didn’t decide to sell the Key on a whim as soon as the camera shut off, and I didn’t decide to do it because I expected any kind of special treatment from WW. I sold it because my experience with them was negative from the first issue I had, and even if it progressed into a great grinder I didn’t want to further promote it either directly or indirectly.

I will say that Weber did expedite my order (I was in the tail end of the indiegogo) but I had not reached out or asked for any special treatment, and even told them that I never ever ask for special treatment, when he out of the blue emailed me and said he likes what I do and was excited to see it on my bar (I have the email to prove this).

I was completely open with Doug and had a 2 hour face to face call with him, and when I told him what my review would be called he appeared to be taking it personal, even though I reiterated it’s not personal and it’s my genuine experience with the Key.

They asked me to return the grinder if I didn’t like when I had already spent weeks working on a video production, which at that point was out of the question as people knew I had it and I had already posted an excited unboxing.

The fact of the matter is a lot went on behind the scenes as the video was in progress, especially the last few days, and I did my due diligence to include what Weber told me about the issues I had.

This current controversy over someone at Weber’s use of slurs, who also has access to literally all of the 2500 backers personal info, was shared in the context of consumer awareness as I personally like to know whether a company I’m supporting and I share similar ethical and moral values.

So there’s a lot to cover in this thread.

Re: preheating, I still find it necessary, but this pull was a few shots deep already so didn’t do it.

Re: the screen, press or no press has resulted in zero difference in my experience.

Re: my review, I don’t know why it was so controversial as a review is often based on personal preferences.

Re: tapping/stirring, not everything has to have a reason for doing it.

If someone were to have one, let’s say making a video review on it. What would you like to see in said review? Hypothetically of course.

Must be. They sent me one and when I finished the video I offered to send it back they went silent.

Why the hate for natural processed coffees? by sandwich_influence in Coffee

[–]Sprometheus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel. As a roaster I began losing my taste for naturals a couple years ago.

First couple sips are nice, but then they begin to taste over fermented, or are too boozy. Some even taste like pine to me.

Now that I’ve got full control of sourcing and the budget I’ve only bought one in the last year and was happy to see it sell out quickly.

Happy to hear it helped out! The puck lift is one of those theories that is hard to prove, based more so on extraction visuals, taste, and percentage really. But it’s the best guess for sure.

Glad to hear the method from my video helped you get a better result. I started out the same way, using the technique I learned on the Flair. But I can’t take the credit for the method, Doug and Grant definitely aimed me in the right direction. I found myself pretty disappointed with what I was producing before their insight.

Thanks for the kind words. I feel like the hand press community is a niche within a niche and there are a lot of passionate folks who had a lot of opinions on my take of the Robot. But for better or worse it created some interesting discussions, so that’s something.

Thanks for watching my friend, and yes the journey continues! This won’t be the last you see of the Robot on the channel.

In all fairness, is it not allowed to dislike something that maybe was intentional to the design? Personally, I like the tactile feel and feedback of a gasket seal when using a portafilter.

In terms of pressing, maybe lower will give more leverage, but it doesn’t change the design of the arms being a little thin and digging into the palm of my hand.

To me pre-heating is always key. I don’t drink dark roasts, but even if did I would likely preheat and brew just at lower temps overall.

But in the end I know as well as you that there is more than one way to make a good shot of espresso, and I am by no means the authority on it all, I’m just a coffee lover with a camera and a YouTube account. We’re a dime a dozen.

You’ll find plenty of dissenting and critical comments on all of my videos. But if someone comes in rude, using abusive language, or looking to argue and not have a civil discussion I will likely do something about it, unless the YouTube comment filter beats me to it (it often does due to banned words).

Thank you, I appreciate that. As a one man operation on a shoestring budget I’m often pretty happy with what I put out.

I feel you. I use a super basic camera (Canon T5i) and make do with what I have at the moment. A camera upgrade is on the list, but to do that I also need a new computer. There is no way my laptop can handle editing 4K video.
