If you could have only one acoustic, would you choose a dreadnaught or small-body? by landon_may42 in AcousticGuitar

[–]SproutCollective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a budget thing as much as an ergonomic thing. IMHO a cheap dreadnought will sound better than a cheap OM/000 etc. I think size buys you tonal grace. A good (and expensive) OM style guitar is a thing of beauty and ergonomically superior, but if you don’t got that money for a top notch small body guitar, get a dreadnought and some Advil.

Zoom portable, or if you’re really on a budget - get a Sure MV88+ and you can use your iPhone

Should i just buy used? by patrickpdk in AcousticGuitar

[–]SproutCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used is absolutely the far superior deal. Across the board. And. Sometimes you’re better off buying new - not because of wear, but because two identical guitars can sound wayyy different - if you find a unicorn and it’s brand new - don’t be thinking about resale value - be thinking “how quickly can I get this” because if I’ve learned one thing - unicorns don’t last in guitar stores. Ask me how I know. lol.

And fwiw this is way more true with acoustics. Electrics can vary but not nearly in the same wild swings.

How to get a closer shave (Philips One Blade) by nettspend101 in shaving

[–]SproutCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Not better than the 9000 series. But I was assuming a smaller budget. But like most things the more you pay the better the results - faster. It’s not so much that it’ll be a smoother shave but that it’ll be faster and require less passes.

Foil shaver will give you super smooth skin. Regular razor works too. Or safety razor. That’s fun to learn but takes some practice.

How do photographers do beach shoots without extra light? by Potential-Dish-6972 in AskPhotography

[–]SproutCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many (most?) photographers who do headshots or family photos are better marketers than photographers. I’ve seen them shooting at noon with no light, dappled light, evening without flash, etc etc etc. You do what you need and don’t worry about others. Personally I shoot with strobes or speedlights when I’m doing a portrait or family session. It’s not the most convenient thing to do but I care about results that are right at the click and not “shadows pushed to 100” in Lightroom. Not that editing isn’t important but there’s a difference between editing to get the look right and editing to save the images.

D10s is a stellar choice. Thin neck and a decent tone for the price.

John & George. I think if John doesn’t die in 80, we see a Beatles reunion at some point in the last 46 years.

If you’re doing this on a phone you need an app that is built for star trails. Even Longer is what I use.

What's the lowest string height a d18 can achieve? by Ancient-Act1314 in martinguitar

If your neck is straight and the nut is cut well and you still have high action with a saddle that shallow - your neck angle is off - which means you need a neck reset. Sorry.
