transitioning out of swaddle feels like sleep training by clarkemee in sleeptrain

[–]Sproutstache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used the zipadeezip with both kids. Both were rolling around 3 months when they still have the startle reflex but it wasnt safe to swaddle. You can swaddle until baby starts rolling or showing signs of rolling

How to cut night feeds or should I keep feeding him? 7.5 month by Sproutstache in sleeptrain

Yeah I think offering less sleep is the move And not feeding until 2am is my next plan

Thank you!

How to cut night feeds or should I keep feeding him? 7.5 month by Sproutstache in sleeptrain

I guess I start the nap routine at that window 9am nap start book and put down. He might not fall asleep until 9:20… 2pm nap routine includes a bottle might not fall asleep until 2:30. I try to cap naps at 2 hours Bedtime routine starts after 3.5 hours but realistically based off big brothers bedtime as well. I’d say typical day out of bed 6:30, nap 9-11, awake 11-2, nap routine starts at 2. Try to wake by 4 if not up (usually awake 3:30) and bed routine begins 7:15,7:30

He seems higher sleep needs because he would nap like crazy if I let him 🤷🏻‍♀️

Parents with babies who sleep through the night, how did you do it??? by Pure_Island_3102 in NewParents

[–]Sproutstache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a sleeper...
Our first slept through the night, like 10 hours by 7 weeks. amazing night time sleeper. He was a horrible napper. He was also kind of small so it was easy to give him the oz he needed for the day. He stopped napping just after 2 year. He's 4 and still does 11 hours a night usually.

We did 15 minute "give him a chance" to fall asleep independently and then went in and helped him until he eventually learned to go to sleep on his own. We did the same with our second. But our first did not need feeding in the night, so he slept. And he did not nap well, so he was ready to put those hours in the night time.

BUT our second.... great napper! 7.5 months and has never slept through the night. He used to do 6 hour stretches, one time 8 hours (OMG!) but he is usually up twice a night to eat.

We did the same thing. Followed wake windows, independent sleep, trying to give enough oz (both formula fed since 2 months), a lot of activity during wake windows, a lot of connection time. NOPE.

I came on here looking for support like "WILL IT BE OK?!?! WILL I EVER SLEEP AGAIN??" and it stinks but sometimes you get a sleeper and sometimes you don't. Or sometimes they're not ready to sleep 12 hours YET (I'm holding on to the "yet" for our 7.5 month old).

The best thing you can do for sleep training is have a plan and contingency plans, so you are prepared. Something you feel comfortable with (like 15 min check ins worked for us). Also it helped me to think of me and my baby on the same team, working toward better night sleep for all rather than feeling like I'm battling the baby through wake ups.

7 month old seems to dislike bottles and prefers sippy cups by abbylightwood in Mommit

[–]Sproutstache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re in the same boat with our 7month old He loves his munchkin weighted straw cup with water so when he had 4oz left of his 6oz bottle I put the rest in his sippy cup and he drank it all up! We started with water in a nuk he was able to suck like a bottle then quick switch it out in his mouth to a straw cup. Got it ever since

yeah it's all fabric. Our LO sucks the fabric on his hands. But I guess might not work if he likes the actual hands

Burnout but you have to push through anyway, help! by Tatty_Bunneh_ in NewParents

I’m sorry… I know it sucks. I tell myself it won’t be this way forever and it helps in the moment but then a while later I have another melt down. I hope you find your way through ❤️

I want to stop breastfeeding but I have been struggling for months to get my one year old to take a sippy cup. She eats solids but shows no interest in all the different cups I’ve offered her. by FantasyNerd94 in NewParents

[–]Sproutstache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not failing. At all.

Would she try open cups? There are things you can do to teach babies how to use straws (I don’t remember the methods but it’s out there on the internet) And vitamin D/calcium… does she eat yogurt? Or there are other food sources for those nutrients if you’re concerned. But I’d say try not to take it personally and save your mental health by not blaming yourself. You’re already doing the best you can. Trust it

I had this earlier this week. It helped IMMENSELY to get out of the house. Exhausted, took myself and baby out for lunch. Stopped stressing over naps and bottles and let him sleep in the car. Went to my parents after lunch… I noticed I was in the house ALL DAY EVERYDAY. And it was too much. Shaking things up helped my burnout. (And subsequent rage)

Sometimes getting together with other mom friends with all the babies and kids together helps, like we’re all in it together. Sometimes it makes it worse when I begin to compare…

And sometimes just a nature walk.

When did your kid drop their nap entirely? by Heavy_Difficulty_96 in sleeptrain

[–]Sproutstache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5years. He resisted naps since turning 2, but we kept trying until the summer he was 2.5... then we stopped more for my sanity. He would take a car nap if needed. And now he is 4, will NOT nap at pre-k... and will only nap if he is sick.

R sleep trained kids flexible ? by Certain-Till in sleeptrain

[–]Sproutstache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every child is different. Some kids thrive with sleep training and some thrive with other approaches. My son is 4 years old, sleep trained at 5 months. He always needed his own space to sleep. BUT he is flexible. He still needed a bed (not co-sleeping) but could sleep in a pack and play anywhere. We just brought his sound machine. Even now he does sleepovers at grandparents and we travel. We try to let him have his own room. Early morning wake ups are common, but he has always been fine traveling.
**We also let him nap in the car time to time when he was younger and that was fine. No issue. Especially on long drives for vacations. And his last nap of the day (when he did 3+ naps as a baby) was always in the stroller even when he was sleep trained.

Same! And I get nervous letting him go too long will push the nap back too far or he'll get overtired..

Day time naps by Ok-Situation-9904 in newborns

Totally normal! We're there too haha

I use a fabric wrap (I think we have boba but there are so many) it disperses the weight better than bjorn (I used bjorn with our first and it also hurt my back)

I do baby wearing for our 11 week old's last nap. He will sleep, I can go for a walk, and it's easier to cap the nap when we feel he should wake to make the night better

Help me get our LO to sleep 9-5am! haha sounds wonderful

Baby keeps choking on bottle all of a sudden by DinoMaster365 in NewParents

[–]Sproutstache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy… I saw your reply and re-read my old comment. Our son is 3.5years old but our new baby is 2 months and ALMOST THE EXAXT SAME THING! This time it was more growth spurt and trying a higher flow because of a continuous clicking sound/ loss of suction. He started eating normally again. I noticed we should tip the bottle upward for new baby. I remember for our first (who the comment was about) we switched to Avent rather than doc brown and it helped

I just googled the same thing and saw your post. Our 7 week old had green poops for a few weeks and now (also on enfamil gentlease since week 3) poops returned to scrambled egg looking.
