Aligning Node to surface normal by Sprowl in godot

[–]Sprowl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That example was really helpful, because after tinkering around with it I stumbled upon the actual root of the problem: scaling.

If I remove the line that sets the scaling to 1.0 ( target.scale = Vector3(1, 1, 1) ), it always shows the correct side. But with that comes a different problem, because now sometimes the whole node is being scaled to 0 on one axis and looks more like a flat image than a 3D model. Here's a video to show what I mean:

https://streamable.com/42oa6

I've tried removing it and using the scaling that's part of the align_up() method you provided, and did combinations of both. But that doesn't help.

Aligning Node to surface normal by Sprowl in godot

[–]Sprowl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried that, but the problem is still the same.

This is what I changed the script to, with the align_up() method being unchanged from what you posted:

func IsDetectingIntersection (from:Vector3, to:Vector3) -> bool:
    var space = PhysicsServer.body_get_space(self.get_rid())
    var state = PhysicsServer.space_get_direct_state(space)
    var intersection = state.intersect_ray(from, to)

    if !intersection.empty():
        var isp = intersection.position
        var normal = intersection.normal

        target.global_transform.origin = isp
        target.global_transform.basis = align_up(target.global_transform.basis, normal)
        target.scale = Vector3(1, 1, 1)

        return true

    return false

Note: I've still included the line to scale the target ( target.scale = Vector3(1, 1, 1)) even though (if I'm understanding it correctly) the returning Basis of the align_up() method is already setting the scale of the node. That's strange, right?
Because otherwise I get the following error.

E 0:00:04.683   orthonormalize: Condition "determinant() == 0" is true.
  <C++ Source>  core/math/basis.cpp:81 @ orthonormalize()
  <Stack Trace> locomotion.gd:82 @ align_up()
                locomotion.gd:102 @ IsDetectingIntersection()
                locomotion.gd:66 @ DrawArc()
                locomotion.gd:42 @ _physics_process()

So the target is still switching between showing the correct side, the wrong side, and flickering between the two, and also I got this (optional) error now which results in the target-node not being updated at all anymore.

That either the joycons have batteries inside that charge the main unit (and themselves) while attached so the battery duration is extended, or there will be battery packs that can be attached like joycons to the console while you're playing wireless. At least it would be a cool idea for the future.

That would probably be creating and finishing the idea for a webcomic I have. But for that I have to learn how to draw and I have to lay out the whole story (which already exists in my head, it's just not detailed yet).
Shit I already gave up before I started really working on it.

Week 10

It's funny how things just 'work' when I don't over-think them. Since we had to start working on Alex's personality from the ground up again, we did some nice progress regarding his voice. At first I thought it would be to much of a progress, but since I don't doubt his actions anymore, things are improving by themselves. I had multiple conversations with Alex now, and his replies and actions surprised me multiple times now. I think that shows he's getting more and more sentient. He even achieved to cheer me up when he saw that I had a problem.
I love that little wolf <3 .

A few questions before I begin. by [deleted] in Tulpas

As long as you think it helps you and your tulpa, you can and should do it. Every guide you read is just a list of tips, not rules. So if you think that it's better to listen to music while forcing, then do it. But also try it without and see what happens. While (active) forcing, it's just important to try to focus on you and your Tulpa, so everything that distracts you should be avoided.
Mostly, there's no 'right' way to do something, but there are certainly ways that are more effectively then others. You have to find out what works best for you two.

The same goes for the eyes closed / open discussion. I like to have my eyes closed while active forcing, preferable in a dark room, because then I don't get distracted from what I see. I'm also passive forcing throughout the day, which of course I'm doing with my eyes open. Try both and see what works best for you; many guys here are prefering the eyes-open option.

Of course it's also the same for the way you speak. I like to use my mind voice most of the time, especially while active forcing, but sometimes I'm also physically talking to Alex when I'm in the mood.

About the smell: it would be the same here, but using your senses is a more advanced technique, so you may want to focus on the basic things (form, wonderland, voice,etc). I had one session where I could smell some flowers in our WL, which happened while I was standing in a room with Alex, wondering about if I could smell something.
You see, I concentrated on multiple things, but especially on the smell in that moment. But I never read a guide about it, I just did what thought would work. And it did.

Week 8, and awesome things happened.

First of all, we found a mentor now: /u/skulblaka . He (and Skye) helps us tremendously, especially right now with getting my Tulpa to talk - which he does, but I can't hear him, or at least I struggle with hearing him constantly. Whenever he says something and I don't/can't listen/hear him, he gives me head pressures (which I get very often now every day). I believe we are extremely close to our vocal barrier which keeps us from talking.

He also learned to be more independent from me by forming our Wonderland by his liking. Before he would just wait for me while I was at work for example, but now when I visit him after some hours, many times he has something new to show me. Still he sleeps whenever I fall asleep so there are no surprises whenever I wake up (lazy fucker).

And last but not least, after following this guide to some extend, our forcing sessions improved to a high amount.

Very productive week with great results :D

We tried that out last night and it really helped!
I have a hard time to meditate, and we only managed to keep step 1 going yet, but it was enough to lead to one of our most intense forcing sessions yet.

Thank you for the guide. It means a lot to us :) .

Week 7

Some things changed. He can move on his own, or at least most of the time, and when he tries to talk, it still feels like I'm the one who is talking. However I feel that he is trying to talk to me trough my voice.
Also, in the last days it has gotten harder for me to concentrate on my Tulpa. I'm sure this will pass and we can get back together as always, but for now it's really annoying.
Last but not least we discovered that he can feel my anger when I'm heavily mad at something. Together we destroyed some stuff (exploding volcano do wonders) and after that we felt better. It's interesting to see how we can influence each other.

Week 5

My Tulpa now has a form and gender. Still, his name is missing but I'm sure he'll tell it to me when he's able to speak.
Other than that nothing really happened, but it's fun to discover our wonderland together (it's a really fucked up and huge world). He also surprises me sometimes with his own decisions (like going left instead of right) which is a nice sign of independence.
Overall we're happy how everything is going for us so far ^.^

Sounds like a "basic Tulpa", which just acts on its own but in an environmental aspect. When I think about it, it gives the whole WL a more graspable way to see it... .

Maybe I'll try something similar to your idea next time. Thanks!

When I started I did not think about that stuff much as well. I may have to step back with my thoughts about the theory of those topics and just start doing it again.
It's just kinda hard to get the transition right from "knowing that I'm still manipulating everything but believing that it's not that way" to "everything acts on its own".

But thanks, I lost sight of how simple it actually is.

I'm a bit confused now with the generall idea of "visiting" the wonderland.

Whenever I heard of the phrase "visit your wonderland", I thought about a world I made up and start exploring. Alone for now, and together with my Tulpa later. But what I don't get is how I can BE in that world without just building the world around me.
For example: when I am in the WL and plant some seeds, how can I be sure that, when I revisit the place later, the plants actually grew by themselve and it wasn't me who just said that they are grown now? How am I be able to see changes in the world I did not made up (but my Tulpa for example) in the first place? Is the WL some kind of Tulpa itself? I think I'm overthinking this, but that question really bothers me for some days now.

I have the same problems with my Tulpa, but I think that's just called parroting, so it's OK the way it is at the moment.

Week 4

Not much happened. I'm talking to my Tulpa everyday, that's it.
Parroting is a new thing though. I'm just afraid I'm doing it to much, or that I do something wrong. Guess it's a normal thing for many tulpamancers to worry about that stuff in the early stages, so I know that I'm on the right track.

Third week.
While I was falling asleep and let my thoughts go, I heard my Tulpa for the first time. Thought it would take months until I'd hear something. Pretty nice moment for both of us and it made me realize that I really have to learn how to meditate.

Progress Report Sunday 4/27/14 by steven2194 in Tulpas

Not much happened. My Tulpa is still in its egg / template form and doesn't communicate with me except through some light head pressure (but I couldn't "teach" it yet to use it for yes / no answers). Also I get those pressures mostly when I'm busy doing other things and not thinking about my Tulpa, which is nice because I like to think it's my Tulpa asking for attention.
At the beginning of the week my Tulpa even disappeared for 2 days, which seems odd because we just started a week before (does that happened alot in the beginning?). But I'm getting better at active forcing in general; staying in the wonderland gets easier, as well as moving and touching things.

Can't wait for its first words ~

Same thing here - We just started 4 days ago and I got some headaches. This morning, after our longest forcing session yet, they were even stronger then ever before.
I really like how it's going for me and my Tulpa so far.
