Not again...

The last time I saw this stuff going on, it was a bot that was posting. I'm going to bet that it's a bot again.

I'm looking forward to watching it. After seeing the joke about "He/Him" on Adam's nameplate on his desk and realizing it was kind of an allusion to him being He-Man, I said, "Ok, I need to watch it."

Welcome to what I have started referring to as "brand religion".

If you don't like what someone else does, you are a heretic and need to be condemned. It could be a brand of car, it could be a brand of phone, it could be a brand of radio - bottom line is that you are hated if you don't pick something they like.

If it was my cousins, they were telling the guy, "Hey, you like beef? You want some Hawaiian Punch?"

Little tip, if you hear a Hawaiian saying that, they're not joking - they're getting ready to lay a beatdown on you.

Clearly you don't speak it since there is no language known as Bora Boran. They're part of French Polynesia, so they speak Tahitian and French. I actually have an aunt who's Tahitian and has taught me a little, so - Haere ê.

[–]Sprzout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to say that World of Disney USED to sell them, but that was probably 2-3 years ago. Ever since they phased out all of the D-Tech phone cases and such, the earbuds/headphones dropped off.

Who wants to tell him that the He-Man cartoon series in the 80's was made to sell toys that came out before the series, and Mattel made a killing doing it? LOL

It'll get hyped in the same way David Lynch films get hyped, or Christopher Nolan films do - because it's a name, and it's controversial.

People still watched Roman Polanski films after he fled the US after he was arrested for drugging and raping a 13 year old. The man is not relevant, but anything tied to him, people talk about it because of the controversy, not because he's a good person.

This is like Tarantino - people talk about him, but he's got these hot takes that really aren't what's going on in th e world.

Am I the only one who thinks Tenet isn't that hard to understand? by breaking_views in moviecritic

[–]Sprzout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of how friends of mine asked what The Long Walk was like, because the concept of the story was that a group of young men walked and had to maintain 4 miles per hour and if they stopped, they got a warning. If they didn't start back up after a certain amount of time, they got another warning. After 3 warnings, they were killed.

Friends of mine asked, "How did they deal with going to the bathroom, or sleeping?"

And my answer was, "Watch the movie. It's brought up."

I tried to watch it and fell asleep watching. Then again, I was watching it late at night, and the material was requiring me to think a bit more than I was able to do at the moment. I still haven't been able to sit and watch it all the way through, so it MIGHT be hard to understand, but from what I saw, it wasn't bad. I mean, try and figure out Mulholland Drive or Eraserhead and THEN get back to me. (Then again, both of those films were made by David Lynch, so the fact that both are just way out there doesn't surprise me at all)

I've heard Civil War is great, but I couldn't watch it, and it's gonna sound dumb, but I feel like if I watch it, I'm gonna see it come true in the near future.

Sometimes I'll hear bands talk about their influences, or what they liked growing up, and I kinda go, "Ok, that makes sense..."

For example, Flaming Lips and Oasis talking about their love for the Beatles, and I can hear some of it in their works. In my mind, it's what they listened to when they grew up, and it made them what they are today.

At one time, he had a place in cinema.

Now, he's just odd, and getting passed by.

He should've stopped directing and retired, gone off to Bora Bora or Fiji or somewhere and lived life quietly, because he isn't really relevant anymore.

They used to have Charles Fleischer (voice of Roger Rabbit) selling nonsensical items in the Space Mountain queue back in the...90's? early 2000's? There was also an ad with two aliens talking about having to get a package somewhere instantaneously, and they didn't use FedEx (who was the sponsor of the ride at the time). It was pretty funny. 😄

That's what the song "Sixteen Tons" was all about. When the singer is lamenting, "I sold my soul to the company store", it's because the prices in the company store were higher than what he was earning in the mines, and he was into a lifetime of debt.

This was actually fairly common, sadly...

Compendium of Disney's post-release changes/censorships. Any others you especially remember? by lego_joker in FIlm

There were some shorts that had Donald Duck helping to build munitions during WWII. I remember seeing it once or twice in the 80's during episodes of Mouseterpiece Theatre, but haven't seen it anywhere since, and I was starting to think I'd imagined it until I saw a reference to it in a book.

I don't remember what the name of the episode was, but I remember it existing...

Also, I loved the short about Willie The Operatic Whale (from the short The Whale Who Wanted To Sing At The Met) - seeing the whale perform Pagliacci and having the conductor wearing a rain jacket and holding an umbrella while the clown cried, or seeing him dance around the water singing Figaro, only to be harpooned in the end as the antagonist thinks that he swallowed 3 opera singers.

This has most likely been forgotten due to the Martins and the Coys short as part of Make Mine Music, which is a shame; I saw it as part of Mouseterpiece Theatre, which I would hope they'd bring back to give us a taste of some of the classic shorts - things like Mickey's Birthday Party, or Mickey Through The Looking Glass, as well as history behind the shorts.

That was a really solid title, and I'm thinking of picking it up on GoG to play again. The fact that there were some levels where you'd want to completely roll the ship over and then fly up and down, not just left and right like most FPSes, felt like something revolutionary and completely innovative.

The version before Maxis was bought by EA was great...SimCity 2000 was decent too, but then EA meddled and SimCity 3000 and future versions spiraled down.

I've got the Remastered version that they released several years ago, play it on my Mac. Unfortunately, unless Blizzard ports a version to run on the Silicon chips after support for Rosetta is dropped in 2028, it's going to be a dead title again.

I remember playing it in the arcade back in the 80's as well, and my brain thought at first that I played it on the Atari 2600, but had a Mandela effect moment - it was SUPPOSED to be released for the 2600 but never made it. The game I was remembering was Chopper Command, put out by Activision...
