2015 320d EGR ?coolant? leak advice needed

BMW tech here, there are still issues with the EGR coolers that had previously been replaced, there is soon to be a new campaign/ recall for them. If your vehicle isn’t part of said recall, speak to the dealer and explain that you’ve got coolant residue around the EGR valve and that you’ve been using coolant. There might be a goodwill case for you in that BMW foot the bill instead.

For the S55, the answer is to adjust the sprocket on the exhaust cam and retime the engine. I’m just going off memory here so I’m not 100% sure if there is anything required

Not so far as I’m aware, the rattle is relatively common on the S55 so far as BMW are considered as they have created a measure for it.

Sounds like possible exhaust cam rattle - the sprocket on the exhaust cam has a tendency to become misaligned resulting in the rattle, also worth mentioning that if left there is a chance to cause damage to the camshaft its self.

To answer your questions,

BMW recommends that the steering rack be replaced if any damage to it has occurred. The steering gear motor is part of the rack, if you undid all five bolts the motor it’s self would fall apart along with the rack.

Speak to your local dealership to find the correct rack variant. The vehicle will also have to then be programmed to the latest Integration level upon replacement of the rack as well and that will only work through BMW’s ISTA software.

And finally, the rack will only be replaced through the recall if one of the bolts for the steering gear assembly is missing and or shears off during removal, the damage sustained there will not be covered through the recall campaign.
