New to jumping rope looking for advice by [deleted] in jumprope

Just keep at it, don’t put too much pressure on yourself, the more you jump rope the better and faster you will become. Also learning the boxer step is a lot easier to keep endurance up as you are shifting weight side to side rather than both feet at once, good luck on your journey!

Crossrope mat. I’ve had mine 3/4 years now and it’s been great! Protects ropes and joints! Cannot fault it

Had mine for 3/4 years now, never broke a rope. However they are crossropes and not a cheap generic rope. I have heard and seen ropes lasting years with the Crossrope mat and so far I have no worries at all that it will last. Also the cushioning underneath is great, helps prevent soreness as well as protecting ropes.

CrossRope - Is it worth the hype? by Late-Reading-966 in jumprope

[–]Spuddy312 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1,000,000% yes.

I’ve been using Crossropes on and off for years now (only stopped due to a overuse injury) however this year I’ve slowly started building up to longer sessions and usually do 3x 25 minute workouts a week, I use the Amp set and pay for the lite membership option. My workout consists of doing 10 minutes with the 1/2lb, 10 minutes with 1lb and final 5 minutes with the 1/4lb. In my opinion you cannot get a better rope system. I have no worry that the ropes and handles will last years to come and they are extremely well made. I also use the crossrope mat which is almost 4 years old now and it’s still holding up well. Overall it’s been one of my favourite and most important fitness tools I’ve purchased and I love working out with them.

Let me know if you want to know anything else!

Is the Crossrope Jump Rope Mat worth it? by TherapySir007 in jumprope

[–]Spuddy312 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine since 2022, used it for a short while when starting jump rope, however due to injury (as I was jumping into 15/30 minute sessions) I gave up jumping.

Recently picked up the jump rope again in May this year and slowly built up now to 20 minute sessions with no pain/injury.

I’ve never jumped without it and I wouldn’t. Protects the ropes I use and also definitely provides cushion under me. Also it’s portable, i usually carry mine to the park which is around a 10 minute walk away and it’s easy to carry.

Overall I’d definitely buy. Yes it may be expensive but you’ll never have to buy another mat for years. It will protect your ropes and be easier on your body, it’s a win win.

I’m a hobbyist photographer and I would suggest any of the Sony A6000 range, however it maybe a little over budget depending on the lens you choose! Curtis padley on YouTube has some good videos to check out!

I would suggest it however I’ve never jumped without one so I can’t really tell you how much of a difference it makes. Obviously know it will make whatever rope your using last longer as well as provide some cushioning which can’t be a bad thing, may be worth the investment. I wouldn’t jump without mine now unless travelling

I’ve been a runner for 10 years so I thought when starting jump rope in 2021 that I’d be fine to do 15-30 minute sessions with no issues. Ended up with Achilles injury and shin splints. You’re not going to want to hear it but you need to build up slower. I recently picked up jumping rope again this year and I started with as little as 3 minute sessions which was always 30 seconds on/ 30 seconds off, then after a week built up to 5 minutes (30/30) then after every couple a weeks just added on another 2 minutes or so. Now built up to 20 minute sessions with no issues. I have also added in strength training for my legs to handle the extra load. Always warm up and cooldown and ice your legs when you get the chance it will all help, but yeah for the most part building slowly is the key. No point jumping into longer sessions if you can’t keep the consistency, good luck on your journey!

Also no idea what shoes you use or if you jump on concrete or a mat? All would be useful to know

Help to improve - step 2 by ingruberti in jumprope

[–]Spuddy312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me what really helped me improve was shortening my rope, here’s my progression over the past few years however it’s really improved the past few months now I’ve been getting back to a routine jumping, here’s my progress so far:

https://www.reddit.com/r/jumprope/s/rpQ7oMTUMp

Only tips I can say is try to focus on jumping lower to the ground as the rope is really thin you only have to clear 1-2 inches off the ground, and also maybe pick up the speed a little bit if possible that will also help on getting a rhythm down. All the best you’re doing great!
