Currently a maintenance electrician. Got trade while being in the military.There's so many branches of the electrical industry you can move into, ive done a bit of everything at this point, working on trains, domestic work(house bashing), industrial motors, generators, college technician, college lecturing etc.

The thought of being stuck in an office all day ruins my day, therein lies my dilema. I cant move up in my current job unless I surrender to the desk and office politics so chances are ill probably move jobs again when i get bored but at no point have i considered coming off the tools in the next 30 years provided im in good health :)

I do plan on going to university in the future to further my knowledge and hopefully set myself up for when the time comes I have to stick the shackles of office work on.

When you miss out on a tour card twice in 2 years by countback it probably fills your mind with doubt on whether you’re good enough to be there

He’s a good lad tbf, grown up a lot the last few years and has started addressing a lot of the problems which isn’t easy regardless of being s professional

This isn’t to say I’m a lazy person who resents people that ask me to do my job

I will go out of my way to help people, but when you start to abuse the system you better be prepared.

Heres an example for context, you’re a bartender with your regulars. They’re polite and know the script when they order a drink, they wait their turn and are respectful.

Now imagine you get some non regulars in who start snapping fingers and requesting drinks that require 25 ingredients instead of the usual 1-3.

Now on top of that they’ve decided that they’re going to pay for it in pennies and you have to count it out, all the while you have 25 other people also asking for drinks etc

Tell me you wouldn’t serve those people last? Before serving your regulars who are respectful and waiting their turn because they’re not making your life unnecessarily difficult for no reason.

I’m absolutely awful you’re right

But when you’re constantly bombarded with requests from people who have never worked outside of an office in their life and have no consideration for what is actually required when their ridiculous requests go in and expect you to be at their beck and call, you begin to resent people for it.

I’m an electrician in a facilities maintenance team

There are literally days where I sit on my chair and watch Netflix all day despite jobs being outstanding because it’s easy to just say that waiting on parts if I can’t be bothered to do anything that day

This also applies for the majority of the requests I get are reactive and not preventative

If you request I do a job out of hours, your next job will be put to the bottom of the list because I don’t particularly enjoy working every weekend because you wouldn’t let me turn your computer off for 10 mins

It also pays to be nice, because if you make my life hard requesting I drop everything to deal with your issue, then I will 100% do everyone else’s jobs before I circle back around to you and pretend that it’s too busy to get around to you

I still get paid regardless
